Just finishing up several weeks in LOTFAP. Stayed exclusively at IHG properties. Summary below. If anyone wants detailed information about any of the places - let me know

One feature common to all properties was the Welcome Amenity (WA) - which is a choice between water/trail mix or 500/600 points. I took points in all cases. Seemed to get 500 at HIX and HI and 600 at CP. Nothing at IC - but did get very good treatment at a newly minted RA.

Hotel Indigo Anaheim. Plat welcome, 500 point WA, hotel was full so no upgrade. Nicely decorated. Reno 7 months ago. Close to Disneyland, Angels Stadium and there is a cinema and Cheesecake Factory close by.

Crown Plaza JFK. Plat Welcome. 600 point WA. Booked standard King. Upgraded to Executive King. Nice airport hotel.

HIX Durham Airport - Plat Welcome, 500 points WA, no upgrade. Cookie cutter property.

HIX Cleveland Downtown - Plat Welcome. 500 point WA. Possibly I was upgraded. Room was massive. In an old (1890's) building but rooms recently renovated. Bed not comfortable. Close to Casino, Rock and Roll HOF (awesome), Cleveland Indians.

CP Minneapolis Northstar. Plat Welcome. 600 point WA. Highlight of the trip (both city and hotel). Booked standard King. Upgraded to Executive King on 17th floor with access to club style lounge (very basic breaky, afternoon canapés, plus 24hrs refreshments). Close to Metro for Mall of America (amazing). Also a restaurant called Hell's Kitchen is a must visit. Very friendly staff.

HIX Pittsburgh Southside. Plat Welcome. 500 point WA. Big rooms. Massive conference in town so received the Two Queen bed room that I booked. The 10th street bridge was being worked on while I was there so walking across was restricted but they have a free shuttle to anywhere in the golden Triangle (3mile radius).

IC O'Hare. RA Welcome. No WA points. They forgot my fruit platter on night one do they comped me breakfast both mornings. Plus I got the platter on night 2 anyway. Good result. Upgraded to King Exec Suite from basic King. As mentioned in another thread I started - looks like this is leaving the brand.

That's all for now. Hopefully no one minds all in one post.

Hopefully the Welcome Amenity will be introduced in Aus properties soon. But I'm not holding my breath.

Cheers

Plugster.

Nice work plugster! I've two months in the LOTFAP coming up and it's mostly going to be with ihg, albeit on point breaks.

Do you have any further on the hotel indigo Anaheim and which other cities did you visit?

Stayed at 3 different HI's recently in France and they all offered 500 points or a drink voucher.

Took the voucher for a glass of champagne that they were charging 9 EUR from the bar

CP Terrigal ( NSW Central Coast ).
PP Newsletter 2-4-1 offer ...
Platinum AMB.

Upgrade = top floor ( 7th. ) Full Ocean View.
Room Booked = King Ocean View ?

Upgrade seemed to only be the aspect view. Premium = looking straight out to sea, Vs. the lesser rooms with a 'side-on' view of the beach.

No water.
No drink voucher.
No 'little surprise' ... even dropped, that we were here for both our birthdays ( a day apart ). NOTHING !!

( mentioned 'the birthday stay' at Sydney IC one time, and received a comp. cake. Even got chocolate-dipped strawbs at the Sofitel once )

$38. each for brekky is a bit much. Same price as Sydney IC, but nowhere near the same choices. PP card makes all the difference.

My wife and I both travelled (by air) and checked into hotels (nice ones) on our respective birthdays this year. None of the providers noticed at all!

Compare that to being at the DoubleTree Istanbul last year ... and a small birthday cake was brought up to the room, ditto the Conrad Singapore!

I don't really expect many surprises like that from hotels any more... let alone if you drop the hint.

I did this at the Hilton Budapest (Castle) one year. Dropped the hint in the EL saying I'd aged another year. Congratulations followed and, after providing room number, a bottle of sparkling in a bucket with a handwritten card was put in the room. Was also spoilt for service in the EL.

Of course, I rarely have the opportunity to have a "surprise" anyway, given that I'm not married / attached and I rarely stay at a hotel on my birthday :) :-|

It's a nice property - but smallish (as most Hotel Indigo's have been in my experience) just 4 floors (with a slow lift). My understanding is it was renovated 7 months ago. Hardwood floors (again the norm from my experience with this brand). Nice bathrooms and bed was very comfortable to me.

Staff were very keen to make my stay a good one. Interestingly when I called for a cab a few times they were using Uber and not licensed taxis - result was the same so I didn't mind but interesting nonetheless.

Had premium cable (HBO and Showtime) and not a pay movie system - which seems to becoming more prevalent across IHG.

They have a nice breakfast bar area which serves All main meals. But it's also close to a Cheescake Factory, California pizza Kitchen, McCormicks and Schmicks (just about the worst name for a restaurant I have heard), Bubba Gump shrimp factory. It was a 10 dollar fare to Angels stadium (my purpose for visiting) and there were regular shuttles to Disneyland around the corner. I only paid 105 USD a night (pre tax) but I think the rates move north during the summer peak.

I had some photos but I took my iPhone for a swim in Durham and I will have to see what made it to the cloud when I get back home.

Visited LA/Anaheim, Chicago, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and St Louis. And Durham in North Carolina.

Thanks for the In Depth response!

Did you find noise an issue at all? That's the biggest gripe I seem to be finding in reviews on the IHG website.

Also, do you see it suitable for a near 3 year old?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I had no issue with noise during my stay.

I'm not a parent so I can't say with 100% certainty but I can't see why not. The only thing that comes to mind is the room I had was just a walk in shower and not over bath. You may want a bath for your young one. I imagine they must have some rooms with baths but you'd have to check with them.

Hope that helps.

Way off topic here, but that is such a great question! For any accommodation choice I might add.

When one of my tinlids was about that age we stayed in a very nice apartment across from the beach at Mooloolaba. We were up a number of floors (can't remember how high) and I was horrified to find the 2nd bedroom (ie the kids room) had a bed pushed up against the window, which could be opened and had no security screens or anything. The possibility of straight down to a grizzly end of what should be a fun time. We requested to go lower and took precautions along with an earful to the manager. It is the parents job to supervise their kids, but it also shouldn't be the hotels job to jeopardise them.

Hey. I soo agree, you have to be careful when you've got kids in toe. I do agree with swanning it's also a
responsibility of the hotel It only takes a split second, for something to happen

Property: IC Singapore
Status: Platinum Amb.
Date: 11 July 2014
Booked: Deluxe Room
Received: Junior Suite

Great stay once again. Was offered a double upgrade to suite as I offered to pay the additional $50+++ for the club lounge access.
Was also given two welcome drink vouchers for the Victoria Bar & a platinum amenity of fresh tea.
Welcome platter of fruits delivered to room & a welcome card.
Had availed of the 4pm checkout to enjoy the sleep in & spacious room on high floor in preference to to newly renovated shophouse rooms which was also offered.
Good solid consistent property. :D

Property: Crowne Plaza Changi Airport
Status: Platinum
Date: 15 July 2014
Booked: Deluxe Room
Received: Pool side access club (?) room

Check in service was very robotic & mediocre @ main reception & some 15minutes after entering I had a call from supervisor asking if I was comfortable. I prompted as to why? She then mentioned that a upgrade to a suite room was available, though as the room was not ready I would have to wait some time.
I mentioned not to bother.
A fruit plate & welcome drink vouchers were delivered to room along with a welcome back card.

Same offer at HI Paris Notre Dame, though they also said I could have the 500 points if I decided not to use the voucher. As it was I used it for a beer up on the 9th floor rooftop bar with the view of the Eiffel Tower! Interesting also that the mini-bar was free.

A few short reports from my recent stays-

Property: Crowne Plaza Changi Airport
Status: Platinum
Date: Late August
Booked: Deluxe Room
Received: Deluxe Room
Wasn't really happy with this stay. Slow inexperienced check in procedure, allocated a noisy room on higher floor, no welcome letter & was just handed drink chits without explanation.
Once again after check in, was then offered upgrade to suite, though as I was settled in & rather tired, I told the Manager to forget it.
Newspaper was not delivered & was told at check out that it has to be requested.

Property: IC Manila
Status: Platinum
Date: Late August
Booked: Deluxe Club Room
Received: Junior Club Suite
Usual lovely welcome & all conveniences offered, large suite room with gift & fruit platter. :D

Property: ANA Intercontinental Tokyo
Status: Platinum
Date: Late August
Booked: Junior Suite
Received: Large Corner Suite
Fantastic stay once again. Opted for the paid in Club Lounge @ JPY10k.
I truly find this hotel to provide exceptional service on all levels. The rooms are generously appointed & the property is in a desirable location.
The best part was returning to the room one evening to find a lovely bottle of Moet presented as a gift. :D
