IHG Hotels that recognise status

The best part was returning to the room one evening to find a lovely bottle of Moet presented as a gift. :D

Was it coincidental that the couple in the suite next door kept looking out their door thinking "how long does it take to deliver one lousy bottle of Moët"?

Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore
Stayed 2 nights last week, got a super cheap rate on the suite on top floor. As always staff very friendly, recognized platinum status and got a lucky pick at check in which ended up being 500 points. Free drink at the bar plus water/fruit in room every day. Renovation works are still on but really no impact on the stay

Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay
First time here for 3 nights on points, again staff were very friendly and happy to assist where possible. We needed to print a photo from phone so that we could get Daniel Ricciardo to sign but had issues with the macs they had for public use. We emailed guest services with the photo and printed in colour in 2 minutes, happy to say that we managed to get the photo of our 8 year old son with Daniel signed at a promo event an hour later

Small rooms, but new and modern and for 2 adults no problem. Breakfast is included and not too bad. It's an 8 minute walk to the heart of Clarke Quay and 10 minutes to Chinatown. Late check out was also no problem.

Property: Crowne Plaza Chicago Magnificent Mile
Status: Platinum
Booked: Guest room (via 3rd party)
Received: Guest room on high floor
Also a goodie bag with water and nibbles, free wifi, and 600 bonus points.
I see the hotel is now a Hampton Inn (Hilton) rather than a CP (IHG).

Property: Crowne Plaza Adelaide
Status: Platinum
Booked: Standard
Received: Deluxe Balcony
Booking showed Deluxe balcony a few weeks out from stay and was still showing on check-in. Told we had an upgrade but arrived in room to find it was not in fact a balcony room. Spoke to staff who were confused but did move us to a balcony room. No other perks.

Property: Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach
Status: Platinum
Booked: Water view
Received: Supposedly water view but couldn't actually see it. On side of hotel facing power station.
Computers were being upgraded so room manually allocated. No upgrade. Plat status not recognised even though card handed over on check-in. Had to chase lounge access and wifi. Lounge attendant was fabulous. Also had to follow up for points/bonus points post-stay (and received some apology points).

Property: IC Melbourne
Status: Platinum Ambassador
Booked: Wheelies room x 2 sep bookings
Received: Exec room x 1 and Deluxe Room x 1
Welcome gift was a glass of Penfolds Cab sav which I am pretty sure was Rawsons Retreat, not to bar manager, if you are going to fill your wine racks just with. Rawsons Retreat guests are going to know your cheap.
Internet and late checkout given to both rooms.

Crowne Plaza Auckland. Always book a King Bed Park View room and normally get upgraded to Club Floor. Last time got a double upgrade to executive club room. Bit of a treat, 2 level room on top floor.

Catching up from last months travel

Property: Intercon NY Times Square (8th and 46th)
Status: Royal Ambassador
Booked: "Deluxe Room" for 6 nights on Points (Total 300K) (only category of room available on points)
Received: Deluxe Family Studio on 16th Floor with all usual AMB benefits - Free Hi-speed Wifi for up to 10 devices, Free Movie, Complimentary Minibar drinks, Welcome Fruit and water. they handed me a sheet (they had a slot with tabs for all different IHG status levels which i thought was nifty) with all info upon checkin and it does say these benefits are not guaranteed on points stays but they do try to honour them.

Other Info: Despite arriving at 7pm on a Friday night room was not ready. was explained this due to a previous guest smoking in room and they were taking extra time to get rid of the smell. 4 complimentary drinks at the hotel bar were provided and consumed - in room at 8:30pm. Monitoring the app during transit to NYC - I was initially upgrade to a Sky View Corner King and then further upgraded to the family studio. From what I can tell the only category of room higher than what i received is the sky view suite which is the same layout at the family suite only higher up.

The advertised rate for the studio was averaging 650USD plus tax for my stay. booked during an 8% cash back on Ebates I received 176 USD cash back for the stay - meaning the hotel received approx 2200 for my stay.

Overall extremely happy with the outcome and value extracted from points. Location cannot be beat for access to Times Square and tourist attractions, right above the subway and Shake Shack (really good).

Hotel: Holiday Inn JFK
Booked: Standard King room
Received: Standard King Room (HOTEL Full)

Newly opened hotel (Nov 2013) - however it was a standard HI fitout and perfectly comfortable for a 1 night stay before an early flight out of JFK. Shuttle service efficient and friendly. and Front desk staff were extremely pleasant. There is a restaurant in the building but i did not go. Offered the 500 point welcome amenity - however it has not been credited some 2 weeks later. minor issue. Its walking distance from several restaurants and a little bit further is a Costco and Kmart.

--------------------------------------

Property: Holiday Inn Resort Honolulu * 2 separate stays bookending trip to NYC
Booked: Ocean View King for 4 nights (paid), Standard Non Smoking room for 2 nights (points)
Received: Ocean View King for paid stay (hotel was overbooked), Queen Partial Ocean View with Balcony for points booking

Both bookings received the 500 point welcome amenity, and a welcome card in room with a box of chocolate macadamia nuts.

location was great for my purposes (shopping, relaxing and eating) - but IHG really need a more premium hotel in HNL - SPG and Hilton seem to have the prime land stitched up however. Points stay on the way home i was on the back corner of the hotel above reconstruction of the markets and new hotel next door - noise was not ideal but i didn't care to request a room change as little time was spent in the room.

overall reasonable value - but really couldn't recommend for a luxury stay - probably good for families.

Finally - Whatever you do - breakfast in Margaritaville is a mistake!!!

------------------------------------
Property: Sydney IC (last weekend)
Booked: Standard Cityview room (on a AMB weekend certificate)
Received: Deluxe Eastern Harbour view with complimentary club access and usual RAMB benefits of Wifi, movie and minibar. welcome fruit and wine as usual.

This was an unneeded stay but decided to not let my Certificate go to waste - the booked rate was split 329 for the fri and 539 for the sat. So 164.50 a night was pleasing value on the certificate. cash back hasn't posted yet - be interesting to see as the hotel was quite full according to the check in staff. but only booked on the standard 4.5% rate so unlikely to shatter the earth.

Cheers

Melbourne IC ( The Rialto ) ...
Booked four nights on the PP BOGO rate. Paid in advance ( prior 30 June )
Room booked = King Deluxe
Room Received = King Executive - top floor ( level 9 ) as AMB Floor.
( no Club access offered - but wasn't really expected )

Fruit plate daily = 2 apples ( green + red ); pear & bananna.
Two 350 ml. bottles water each morning - on Room Servicing - plus another two each night at Turn-Down ( plus two single-piece chocolates )
No issues with Room Service delivered Ice Bucket + plate of Lime Wedges each afternoon ( G&T time !! )

Received voucher for 'Win Up To 1,000 IHG Points' ( code to be entered into website ). My 'prize' = 100 points ( well, better than nothing !! )
Also the "Glass of Cab Sav" voucher ( ? one glass ? )
Took this voucher down to the Wine Bar. Staff said OK to use in the restaurant.
Rock up for dinner at about 8pm.
We had the 'pricey' beef @ $44. ( no sides ) ( Using PP card, so 2 serves for the $44. )
Told there 'may' be a short wait.
TWO glasses of the Cab Sav ( on the voucher ).
20 mins. later ...
Beef a little longer than expected ...
Two more glasses of the wine on-the-house ( plus more bread rolls & butter ), plus a comp. 'chef's tasting spoon' each ( a bite-sized piece of savoury, oily cheeze-type thing each )
Beef was Ok, but wouldn't like to pay full price for what we got ...

Later found on check-out, that it was 'absorbed' by a 'cost adjustment' on the room rate. So, turned out to be 'free'.

All up, good value using PP + AMB benefits.

When: December 2014
Booked: Standard king
Received: King with South Wharf view. Free wifi. One drink coupon (two of us in room) but not delivered till later in the day and didn't discover it until bed time. Welcome note.
The issue. Offered choice between valet park at $47 or self-park. Elected to self park. Asked for parking to be validated at check-out and was told they have no association with the carpark. The carpark that has large CP signs in every level. The carpark they directed me to. $46.35. I should have gone for valet parking...

Property: IC Adelaide
Status: Platinum Royal Ambassador
Booked: Standard King
Received: Diplomatic Suite on top floor with club access
Welcome gift - Bottle of still water and mediocre fruit plate (I have been spoiled by Double Bay)
Club as always was good and having had the few first days breakfast in the restaurant, actually preferred the club breakfast.
Room was awesome and well used over the seven days, although housekeeping were not great, missing new toiletries one day.

Property : IC Wellington
Status : Gold
Booked : Standard King
Received : Standard King

Offered access to the Club and breakfast for an additional $90 per night...no thanks
Can we park your car ?...OK...We will add $35 per day to your bill...terrific, thanks

The room is very good and they offered a late checkout to 2 PM

Given standard letter from GM reminding me of my points balance and how many points I would receive for F & B etc.

This hotel is well placed for most City things and the service is superb

Not such a gracious effort to recognize your Gold Status it seems.

January 6-15, 2015: Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali (Located at Tuban Beach aka South Kuta). Was recognised as Platinum member on check in and we were ushered to a separate sit-down area where we were given a fruit coughtail. Having booked a Junior Suite (2 Adults + 2 Teenage kids 17 & 19), we were offered an upgrade to a King Deluxe room, however we stuck with the Junior Suite as it was twice the size and in a quieter location. They subsequently gave us a dinner voucher for a free meal for 4. They didn’t charge us the ‘extra adult’ surcharges or for the kids’ breakfasts. The only other status perks were a plate of exotic local fruits and the use of a ‘departure’ room (after check-out) for a couple of hours in the evening prior to the usual late night departure – a fantastic perk.

Property : CP Adelaide
Status : Platinum (VA comp. First stay at IHG for a few years)
Booked : 2x Standard King (Govt rate)
Received : Standard King and Standard Double

No upgrade (car park view) but did get the adjoining rooms (paired as above and worked out very well for us) which was the most important thing
Was called night before stay to confirm. Were already checked in when arrived as could drop bags off quickly (which were taken up to room) and get to our event.
Concierge excellent
No sign of an amenity
1.5% surcharge for Visa/MC, 3% for Amex/Diners. Diners does have the advantage of double points.

Property:CP Glasgow

Great result

And they serve draught Murphy's Stout in the bar...couldn't have asked for more

Unfotunately it's thr choice of 400 points or a drink for a Gold status member :)

The club access is a good bonus with free continental breakfast, free drinks/snacks in day and booze + canapes 5-8 pm (not tried yet).If don't go for continental, you can choose a discounted full Scottish.

Property: Intercontinental Melbourne Rialto
Status: Platinum Royal Ambassador
When: April 2014
Booked: Base Deluxe Room on my last PP 2 for 1
Received: Junior Suite.

Overall a middling stay - I think the hotel is lovely but we got off to a bad start. Arrived at 1:00pm - room was not ready due to another Ambassador using their late checkout - I was offered use of a temporary room but as I had several friends staying at the same time I declined and just left my stuff in their room instead. They also wanted $49.00 a night for club access (for 2 people) which is discounted but is usually free to RA's at both Sydney properties and Adelaide.

Said they'd call when room was ready. Finally returned to hotel at 5pm and room was still not ready. At which point I asked for complimentary club access as service recovery - which was granted. Finally in room at 6pm. Welcome amenity was 3 pieces of fruit, 2 bottles of water and some chocolates - which is certainly stingier than other IC's in Australia. All other benefits were honoured (including complimentary mini bar drinks). I chose to have my club breakfast in the main restaurant with friends - and it was excellent. Club (on L4) seemed nice but I wouldn't have paid for it (at the subsidised cost or at full rate) - as comparison I would pay for Sydney IC with that amazing view.

Property: InterContinental Singapore

Status: Platinum Ambassador

Date: May 2015 (weekend night)

Room Booked: King Business Room

Revived: King Executive Suite, with InterContinental Club access.

This is the second time now I have scored the triple (or more?) upgrade at the IC Singapore. My last stay I hadn't booked the Business room package (which includes breakfast), so they didn't include the club, but apparently the Business room category will always ensure you get the club, and then they do what they can with the best room type at the time of check in.

Interestingly, this time there was no upgrade showing in the IHG booking ahead of time. I just worked it out with them on arrival. Staff always very nice here.

Cheers,
Matt.
