Platinum (not Ambassasor)
Booked: Base King AAA rate av $143/night
Received: Suite on 10th floor

Very happy with upgrade and hotel's proxmity to conference centre
3% Amex fee a bit of a cheek

Report them for excessive surcharging then :)

IC Adelaide - July
(1 night)
Platinum Ambassador
Booked: Club River View @ $292
Received: Club Suite on 8th floor
Welcome amenity: 600pts
Complimentary sparkling water (requested)
Room not ready at 3pm so offered 2 x drink vouchers
When reception came to provide key at 4pm offered further 2 x drink vouchers
Club Lounge standard fair but with attentive staff for D & C's
Breakfast staff in club not as attentive (which is generally consistent) .
Service recovery for late room avail very good with apology card and fruit/chocolate platter.
Negatives are no Nespresso machine in club rooms or suites which should be standard and no menus in club lounge.(it's a free for all with many seagulls self serving - whereas the IC canapes per guest with the self serve add on would be a nicer experience IMO)

Crowne Plaza Zhongguancun (Beijing)
Sneaky tactic. Booked 1 night through IHG - Club Room and 5 nights through Hotels.com (Deluxe Room)
Status: Platinum Elite
Received: Club Suite on 16th floor for the entire stay! Also received welcome fruit bowl, free drink voucher, free club access and free breakfast all week
Welcome amenity: 600pts

Crowne Plaza Wangfujing (Beijing)
Booked: 1 night through IHG - King Deluxe
Status: Platinum Elite
Received: King Bed Club Room on the 7th floor! I asked at check in if free breakfast would be included and after some thought the receptionist said he would throw it in for free (think I've read this is a free benefit for Greater China). I also received welcome fruit bowl, free drink voucher but tried to access the club lounge and was told to leave (politely). It looked pretty small and ordinary anyway.
Welcome amenity: 600pts

Who said IC don't do upgrades on Suites. I have an upcoming stay at IC Double bay in a few weeks. Originally booked a free weekend cert in a Courtyard Suite and noticed today it has upgraded to a Executive Suite. (1 class upgrade)

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa
June 16-22 (6 nights)
Status: IC AMB / Platinum Elite
Rate: IHG Rewards Club Advance Purchase
Booked: Club InterContinental Two Bedroom Suite
Received: Club InterContinental Two Bedroom Suite w/ Plunge Pool

Very nice property and stay, though service can be a bit hit & miss, depending on the outlet and time of day. We were with our 3 yr old lad, and so could not take full advantage of the IC Club benefits (e.g. evening coughtail is adults only), but they do accommodate families with drinks and canapes at the main bar & lounge, which is probably a better place for the kids anyway (next to the beach, grassy area to run about, nightly entertainment... and a jumping castle)

Cheers,
Matt.

IC Adelaide - July - again !
(1 night)
Platinum Ambassador

Atrium bar for arvo drinks and noticeable service improvement.

Welcome amenity: 600pts
Complimentary sparkling water (requested)
Room ready at 5:30pm on arrival
Club Lounge good standard of F & B with hot canapes.
Breakfast very good in club with made to order hot options - Eggs Benny very good.
Service overall attentive with Ambassador status recognised.
Suite was very well maintained.

Holiday Inn Express - Southwark -London
August 4-6th
2 nights paid - 1 double bed

upgraded to double bed with Sofa
weird in all rooms had no fridge

Crowne Plaza - Barcelona - Fira Center
August 6-10th
3 nights points - standard room
1 night paid - standard room

upgraded to Club King for entire stay
obviously not in the centre of Barcelona, however very close to the main transport hub.

Hotel Indigo - Sant Elena - Venice
August 10 - 13th
2 nights paid - standard room
1 night points - standard room

upgraded to Superior Room
Once again not in the heart of Venice, but a nice 28 min stroll in, or 5 boat stops.

Hotel Indigo - St George - Rome
August 13- 16th
1 night points - Standard Room
1 night paid - Standard Room
1 night points - Standard Room

upgraded to Superior Room
currently staying here

all in all, upgrades have been ok, but Spire Elite Status really does matter to the staff and I am very nicely greeted at all places, hotels in Australia and especially Crowne Plaza Auckland can take note.

IC Adelaide - Sept
(2 nights)
Platinum Ambassador
Booked: Club River View @ $294
Received: Club Suite on 10th floor (same room again as requested)
Welcome amenity: 600pts
Complimentary sparkling water instead of still in room (requested) - arranged in club lounge with turndown first night and was surprised to see on entering room later 2 x large spring water bottles delivered by room service at $24 incl. $8 delivery charge ! Misunderstanding or communicated incorrectly by CL staff with charge removed by front desk staff. (still didn't receive the 2 small spring water bottles)
Housekeeping not to usual standard with some items not replenished and above-mentioned request not fulfilled - plus sloppy turndown first night with no drawn curtains, no lights on. (entered a pitch black room)
Club Lounge standard ADL IC fare with good staff overall.
Breakfast staff good.

Note : New CL Manager has been appointed starting this week - so hoping for improvements :
CL menus on tables
Traditional Afternoon Tea to be as offered at other IC properties nationally (not just a help yourself scones and biscuits etc.)
Canapés to include Chef's selection of hot items to each table as at other IC properties nationally. (the Adelaide IC CL tends to be a seagull feast buffet when guest numbers are high which is not pleasant)

InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay
Sep 13-15
Status: IC AMB / Platinum Elite
Rate: IC AMB 2-4-1 Weekend Rate
Booked: Club Riverview Studio King
Received: Quayside Suite King (+ 2 categories)

OK stay - though issues with the lift. IC Club spread at coughtails and b'fast not very appealing, so didn't bother... I'd booked this type of Club room only to get to a bigger room category, as the 23sqm studios are laughable. Breakfast in Marcello cafe downstairs was quite nice.

Cheers,
Matt.

HI Parramatta
(4 nights)
Platinum Elite (non-Ambassador)
Booked: Deluxe King
Received: 1 Bedroom Suite (2nd floor, right next to the lift)
Welcome amenity: 500pts
Didn't appear to have any complimentary water (there were two bottles which I could buy for $6)
Housekeeping fine
Didn't have breakfast
The room (especially the bathroom) is a bit tired, but comfortable enough. Reasonably close to Parramatta and Harris Park stations.

Have another stay there in a few days, don't seem to have been upgraded for that one according to the IHG app (unlike this first booking which showed the suite upgrade about a week out).

IC Adelaide - Sept again !
(2 nights)
Platinum Ambassador
Booked: Club River View @ $313
Received: Club Suite on 11th floor (same room location as previous - situated 1 floor higher)
Welcome amenity: 600pts
Complimentary sparkling water instead of still in room (requested and received)
Club Lounge standard good with improved canapés on this occasion.
Staff overall good with exception of Atrium Lounge. (located in the hotel as the main bar/lounge)
Atrium Lounge just can't get it right it seems, as the service is sub par with virtually non existent table service, wait times for drinks, inconsistent complimentary snack service and an overall lack of urgency and willingness to uphold IHG standards. (this has been the same for a while now but we kept giving the benefit of the doubt - no longer)
When they are trained to understand that even though general public use this lounge - the standard must be that everyone is a staying guest - not the guests are treated as general public and provided a lower than expected service. (prices are 5* so the service should represent this)

Plat elite (non AMB)
IC Singapore (Bugis)
Booked Junior Suite (52sqm) for Jan 2020 stay.
Received email stating

As you may be aware, your room reservation does not constitute a room upgrade or breakfast, we are happy to arrange a breakfast special rate of S$30.00++ per adult, instead of the usual walk-in rate of SGD $42++ daily.

Also offered upgrades to Premier Suite (52sqm, exact same room I believe, just with club benefits) for an extra $180SGD per night. Would have cost me extra $60-80 to book premier suite when I was looking at the rooms. Wow what a massive difference. We've got 2 young ones so I thought club room would have gone mostly unused, so didn't bother booking Premier Suite for the club benefits.

Previous stay in May 2019
Booked Junior Suite
No upgrade.

HI Melbourne Airport (1 night)
Status: Plat Ambassador
Booked: Twin Superior
Received: Twin Superior (High Floor - 6th away from elevator)
Welcome Amenity: 500pts
Complimentary Still water, Lemon slice and rocky road in room with Welcome card. Hotel getting a little tired but clean and friendly staff, restaurant was nice too.

Staff were super welcoming, received a welcome letter and a welcome card, only staying for one night pre early departure with family.

HI Perth Central (4 nights)
Status: Plat Ambassador
Booked: Twin Superior
Received: Twin Superior (top floor away from elevator)
Welcome Amenity: 0
Early check-in 12.30pm (requested), Late checkout 2pm (requested)

Hotel was fully booked so no chance to switch to a family room (would have happily paid). only fleeting recognition of status when requesting early checking and late checkout. Restaurant (jack & Ivy) is nice and breakfast is worth pre-paying (at booking) I think I paid $26 per day for 2 adults and kids were free, decent selection. My mum and the kids ate dinner here once, which they said was good, kids were also free with a paying adult. Rooms were clean and well serviced.

Crowne Plaza, Canberra (5 nights) on IHG points. January 2020
Status: Spire Ambassador
Booked: King Bed Superior
Received: King Bed Superior (although told we had been upgraded - I don't think so!)
Welcome Amenity Points: 0
Complimentary two bottles of water on first night only, two drinks vouchers.

A large hotel, quiet tired. Couldn't provide copy of room charges on checkout, promised to email me them, didn't, had to call to get it.

Restaurant was quite good. Ate there a couple of nights but really only because the bushfire smoke precluded going out.

Pretty close to the bottom of the pile of IHG properties that I have stayed at.

InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay
Jan 17-19
Status: IC Spire Ambassador
Rate: IC AMB 2-4-1 Weekend Rate
Booked: Club Deluxe Studio King
Received: Quayside Suite King (+ 1 category)

Bare entitlements only. It's nice enough... but a Quayside Suite at IC SIN RQ is really a 36 SqM hotel room, and smaller then most of the lead-in room types I've seen in Singapore (e.g. the lead-in at the main IC SIN is 38 SqM, Pan Pacific lead-in is also 38 SqM, Conrad lead-in is 40 SqM).

I love this area to stay in, but it's frustrating having such limited quality, and expensive, stock.

Cheers,
Matt.

I had bookings here last year until I did some research and read many posts and comments regarding the room sizes. Ended up cancelling and staying at the main IC. was not disappointed with a club room there

Pretty sure it was me complaining back then, as well, eric2011! :D

Holiday Inn St. Marys ( Western Sydney ) ...

Booked basic room at 10,000 Reward Points ( current PB offer ).

Checked in today, and was upgraded to King Bed Suite ( somewhat better than Warwick Farm suites )

4 x 600 mls. bottled water on table, beside 'Comp' notice.

Offer of 500 points or ( standard ) drink in bar. ( I took the points, as have two kids with me, and won't be hanging in bar at anytime )

Free outside parking. Property opened in last year or so, I think. Thus everything is still looking new.

A good use of 10k in points ….

Crowne Plaza, Canberra (5 nights) on IHG points. January 2020
Status: Spire Ambassador
Booked: King Bed Superior
Received: King Bed Superior (although told we had been upgraded - I don't think so!)

I stayed there last Sat. night on points ....

Booked two basic rooms, & got upgraded to Park View on high floor ( which was level 4 ) for both rooms.
Took four drinks vouchers in lieu of 600 points ( better option, as we had four glassess of 'sparkling', which sell at the bar for $6. each ).

No comp. water.

But how's this ......

We had dinner in Red Salt restaurant, and placed account on room bill.
Next morning, told 'someone has paid your account for you' ( $300. )
You don't need to pay anything !!

Person used my room number and name. I suspect it was someone who knew exactly what I was doing in Canberra that day.
