I'm feeling a bit sad ...[My SC's are getting wiped today... =( ]

Oddly enough, the fear of losing WP and having to get 1400 SC to get it back (i.e. a sizeable 200 SC more than the Retain amount) is something which keeps me on my toes about my status:!: :) (Well, at least whilst I can still think about it...)

I know that feeling so well. I only scraped through in my last year!

My partner's points expire on 31 October. To retain PS, another 160 SCs are required, which we will do by a SYD-AKL return on LAN J but we must "fly a minimum four eligible flight segments on Qantas".
Can I just ask a really really stupid question? Your partner has made just over half the SCS required for Silver in 12 months and you are prepared to spend that much money to retain Silver status even though the Qantas segments are a struggle as well?

Why the need for Silver status as such a price? Which carriers do you fly? Is there more travel planned on Qantas in future? The best bet would be to save money on status runs for Silver status and use the money towards a Qantas Club membership and you may even have change left over for a partner Qantas Club mebership membeship as well.

Well it is almost month/year end again and this time I will have a whopping great 2,700 SCs to see vanishing into the ether... Only 1500 to go to LTS - I might make that in the 2011 status year but I expect (finally) for my travel to calm down next year or take on a dramatic twist back to less DOM whY and more DOM Pom ;)*

*(which is my way of saying int'l J/F)

We didn't do much flying this year because of medical reasons and had pretty much given up on retention of PS. I'm already a QC member. An opportunity arose for us to go to AKL so we thought we may as well pay the premium, fly LA to AKL in J. The SYD/ADL trip had already been booked, so the only other requirement to retain PS was another 2 QF sector flights. Hence the question.

We normally fly QF or OW if possible. That's the way it is, here in Australia, we figure. Probably one or two long haul flights for next status year planned.

Not that familiar with how to maximise opportunities, so I guess the answer may be less than justification on the spend.

How did you go with this? Now that I reread your question. If you just need 2 QF segments, and you can't transit via MEL or CBR on the way to ADL, then just buy the cheapest return flight you can find. Not sure what us would be from SYD. But as an example from ADL I have seen $65 each way to Port Lincoln.

All sorted and all good. Our SYD/ADL trip was booked and paid for, so to add MEL or CBR into the equation, would have entailed an additional $50 change fee and $40 if we wanted to do it over the phone (it would have all added up to one of the fares!). So we bit the bullet and decided a weekend in MEL is not too bad a thing, as long as the AFL finals were over. So this month, it's AKL, home, MEL, ADL each weekend and preserve partner's PS status! Oh, and did I mention bonus points in Priority Club for hotel stays?

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I was reading through this and realised that today is my anniversary date. Losing a massive 50SC tonight. Although as a bonus I am only 150 away from my first bonus 5000FF pts. I should have that my this time next year. Now, what to spend it on...

Welcome to AFF alieninperth! :)

It can be a long rocky road gaining SCs (don't I know it) but I'm sure the hints and tips you can pick up here will smooth it a little.

My SC's are getting wiped today... =(

1810 sc gone this week.

But with 3 US trips in the next few months, requalifying for WP shouldn't be a problem this year.

At first blush and in retrospect, in light of the new enhancements to the QFF program and PS/QP "benefits", all this effort seems to be of little use! Must look at the advantages and disadvantages of membership in other programs.

Totally! At the moment I think that it is only worth maintaining gold. Perhaps that will change when I get a few more visits to the J lounge, but so far it doesn't seem to be double as good as the QP.

If you can get there in the afternoon, the scones make my mouth water :p

I had them Monday morning in MEL as well. They kind of soothed my annoyance that the hot breakfast wasn't topped up in the last 20 minutes of the breakfast service. Especially as they were still warm.

...and so a new year begins :(

So close but so far:

Code:
31 OCT 10 EXPIRED STATUS CREDITS 31OCT10	-	-	- 0 -2,055

Had a trip cancelled last Tuesday that would have put me to PG. Not too annoyed though, as everyone I would have considered giving it to is either:
a) Travels with me ;or
b) Is WP or SG in their own right

Anyway, I'm well on the way to retaining WP. I already have 340 SCs over 11 QF sectors booked for November and if my tentative travel plans become confirmed I'll re-qualify as early as February :)

I think a lot of people overlook the benefit of extra points as a WP and what they are worth, I know I did when I dropped back to SG. Those extra 50000 to 100000 points gained as a WP can be very easily converted to 600-700 SCs!

Sorry, can you explain this...?

31 OCT 10 EXPIRED STATUS CREDITS 31OCT10 ---0 -1,420

+1! My (thus far) booked travel for 2011 will accrue 380 SCs, but that retain figure of 1,200 looks like a long way off right now. As for PG ... :(

Sorry, can you explain this...?

Easily - you get 100% points bonus on flights that are longer than 500 miles (you get it on all flights but the minimum points guarantee overrides the shorter sectors), so BNE - DRW its 1773 miles bonus for WP versus 886 for SG.

Depending on your travel movements those extra miles could add up to 50000 points or more, given you can get 260 SCs with 48000 points on two JASA's, the extra mileage effectively pay for a status run that gets you back to WP for SG.
