Was in MEL again this morning at breakfast. Was nice seeing hash browns, mini demitasses of yoghurt and muesli, sweet muffins and a bowl of blueberries (albeit thawed frozen berries) for the pancakes. Plus hard boiled eggs which I know caused a great upset on these boards when they went missing for a while. Little things but improvements none the less.

Despite the inconsistencies in what comes out from the "kitchen" of the VA lounge, I have never seen anything really substantial from the VA lounge, since I have been entering about 6 months back, apart from er, sandwiches, I will still fly VA and keep VA PS, but no way would I pay $300 as a PS for lounge membership.
I would pay $65 per entry, $$$ I know, but that plus the two complimentary entries as a VA PS, its enough.
I also do plan to keep the QP membership I have. Less the joining fee, its $485. Not sure how the AFF discount works, does it mean $200 off, means $285? Plus $50 for AFF Gold, eq = $335? Or

If a person travels a lot of flights on VAd, for $300 access fee to the VA lounge, I guess it would be worth it.
Maybe if a person travels every week on VA.
Food in there is cheap, and not all the same over the Aust VA network, saw sliced salami one time in VA PER, but only ham in VA MEL and VA SYD lounges.
Always has beer and cider, but all in bottles, never seen a person discharge beer from the tap in VA lounge, always hands out a 355ml bottle, (how to ask for second bottle, I don't dare ask the VA person/VA contractor for another bottle of cider).
Vs QP for $485, second year of membership (without joining fee) where you can have beer on tap, more different varieties of food, better ambiance, ...
Its hard to compare the two.

O, so you can ask for 3 bottles in a 2 hour period, I must try that (for cider) during my next visit to the VAd lounge, I have one more to go, and then either pay $300 or wait for the next cycle of complimentary 2 entries loaded onto my VA PS card.

They have both the full strength as well as light Peroni. And of course, one can drink at lower as well as upper levels of SYD lounge.

after a long workday (2am start) and a cancelled flight, ended up spending 7 hours at the cairns lounge, i drank nearly every different type of beer they had, including the new Crown,,,
