J Seat choice on A380

MEL and serfty don't be afraid to add an explanation as to why you would choose these seats so that us plebs whom sit down the back might just broaden our knowledge base!

13F is in the mini cabin AKA Platinum Alley it is quiet and service is prompt and efficient. The front mini cab is a sought after location.

Go for 13F. :)

I guess I am in not really qualified to answer... but my thoughts are that 17F is an aisle seat (no one to climb over you) and away from the galley. Do you really want to risk inconsiderate cabin crew crashing the crockery and cutlery while preparing meals if you are trying to sleep? (and this is an issue with qantas)

TBH I have not noticed any galley issues. With the 'hood' The Skybeds do have some noise protection from that emanating from behind when in lay flat mode. There are also coat lockers behind row 13 allowing.

As I noted earlier they do seem to fill the cabin these days, so the back dormitory is unlikely to stay that 'empty'.

Personally I would grab 13F and put E/F alerts on 12A/12K/13A/13K in case someone decides to upgrade downstairs.
So is row 15 actually a galley?
Look here:

Row 15 is right at the galley.

I thought the world of the A380 forward mini-cabin ... until MEL-LAX last month and I was in 12F when not one but two groups of oafs decided to take turns to have little parties in the J 'lounge'. Sure, complaints moved them on in turn, but that was the end of any sleep...

I'd be using points to shoehorn myself into one of those F seats

I did for the return journey ;)

I read somewhere that seats 20A/K do not have storage bins on the A380.
Can anyone confirm this, please?

As work is paying I'm in W using points to upgrade, so no F for me.

It's t-6 days and the U class sector has been added into my booking as waitlisted, so I'm comfy it will come through.

As others have posted, I'm normally a window person, I fill up the side locker with gadgets. As I sleep really well on flights I don't disturb the person next to me much.

So I'll take 13F when it comes through and put in a EF alert for the rest of Emerald city.

In the past I've always taken 12K or 13K but really not much difference.

I've also sat in row 16 on 3 separate flights all with babies around! That wasn't so cool.

Thanks again AFF!

Definitely agree with rows 12 and 13

This is going to sound WP snobby but I always look at rows 16 onward when they are disembarking and think "economy"

Emerald City isn't immune to babies either. I had one of the worst long hauls in a long time in 11b when 2 adults, a baby and a hyperactive toddler shared the row and the young ones decided to tag team bawling and howling for 11 hours. Not even my noise cancelling alcohol worked!!!

Very WP, but I get you. I feel the same about the 2nd cabin in J downstairs on the 747.....even though I choose it if I can get one of the single seats in row 5.

To clarify 20 k and 20 A have access to two storage bins along the window rather than the usual three bins. The third (middle) bin is locked closed but still plenty of storage

Continuing OT for a moment.

Is Row 5 on the 744 really that good :?:

Maybe I should try it on my trip to HKG in Nov :?:

Perhaps when you're not flying with Mrs Straitman. Row 5 is great in 5B and 5J. I had 5D on QF16 in May. It was fine, had a great chat to the lovely flight attendant, but I was SO jealous of the woman in 5B.
That being said, I was also SO happy I was in J, not Y+.

No so much "row 5", but or 5B and 5J being best for the solo traveller (followed by 13A, 3E and 3F).

All these seats have significant personal 'side' storage.

Here's a photo of 5B (thanks to pixiechick from FT):

With Mrs Straitman, 3E/F would be really good.

5J is more discreet as 5B is right at the door so all the turn right passengers troupe past you while boarding. This is quite entertaining but has caused a delay in getting champagne to me - which I find quite distressing.....
