Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

As if yesterday's turnback of JQ1 MEL - HNL wasn't enough (see above), on Monday 7 January 2019 the SYD - HNL JQ3 (B788 VH-VKE) took off at 2102 hours mid evening. Arrival should be at 0917 hours, 162 minutes tardy. JQ4 will be delayed.

JQ525, the scheduled 2235 hours late night arrival in MEL (ex SYD) should instead arrive at 0015 on Tuesday 8.

Earlier on Wednesday 9 January 2019, JQ219, the 0615 hours MEL - ZQN departed at 0923.

JQ7 (1200 'high noon' MEL - SIN was cancelled.

JQ1 (MEL, HNL, the 1635 hours in the afternoon) departed 38 late.

JQ35 from MEL up to DPS was 33 minutes tardy in pushing back.

JQ7 (1200 'high noon' MEL - SIN was cancelled..

Pax seemingly were distributed across QF and EK apparently according to our EK Check-in agent for EK MEL-SIN who commented that the flight was completely full to JQ pax being moved after cancellation, which many would have experienced 7 hr delay.

Return flight, JQ8 on Jan 10 is also cancelled.

Last year we had two experiences with these flights- JQ8 specifically. Ours was delayed 10 hrs in March, our relatives was cancelled in August. IMHO JQ 7/8 don’t seem to be very reliable.

....IMHO JQ 7/8 don’t seem to be very reliable.

This has been going on at varying levels for the last couple of years.

MEL_Traveller has also commented on this, and wanted further information. Thanks to you he now has some.

We canm't operate on 'suspicion' but JQ has a lot of trouble maintaining its international schedules into and out of MEL. It appears sometimes it lacks sufficient aircraft to operate the published schedules. JQ7/JQ8 seem to be the first to be cancelled along with one of the DPS flights. I wonder if low bookings on the SIN flight also can have something to do with it?

That during school holidays EK was able to accommodate at least some of the JQ passengers (at a time when one might expect most international flights ex MEL would be busy) implies that there were nowhere near 335 passengers booked on JQ7.

JQ948 (A321 VH-VWN, the 1640 hours MEL up to CNS on Thursday 10 January) was still only taxiing in MEL at 1915 hours so it will be almost two and a half hours arrival in the Far North Queensland major centre.

UPDATE: JQ948 was airborne at 1918 hours.

JQ575 (0600 hours early morning BNE - MEL that took off at 0648 on Friday 11 January 2019, A320 VH-VFV) should arrive at 0955, half an hour tardy.

Later on Monday 11 January 2019, JQ566, the 1730 hours MEL - BNE that took off at 1817 with A320 VH-XSJ and should arrive at 1918 hours, 33 minutes late.

JQ519 (A320 VH-VGV, the 1810 hours SYD - MEL) took off at 1905, arriving at 2031, 46 late.

Today’s JQ35 1955 from MEL to DPS delayed by 13 hours. New departure is 0800 tomorrow morning. My trip to Bali is off to a great start!

Reports of a 787 down with electrical issues.

One I had missed, the JQ36 arrival in MEL this morning from DPS had also been cancelled.

Unfortunately delays ex MEL on JQi are commonplace. I couldn't recommend it: among the reasons is this. Although GA is not an Australian-domiciled airline and our Australian based aviator contributors do not like it, citing safety issues - which we must respect given these AFFers' experience in coughpits - it has been approved safety wise to fly again to Europe (which it now does, despite problematical nature of its on again/off again flights to LHR) so a better choice than JQ.

JQ7/JQ8 MEL - SIN return seem worst followed closely by the two daily Bali flights and then HKT or HNL for number of times badly late or cancelled.

Your difficulty with losing a night's hotel or villa accommodation is that every travel insurer I have used has an A$100 or A$200 excess, and every event is treated separately.

Had you left home, or are you connecting from another flight and hence stuck in Melbourne? Any word on your expenses being covered, or (heaven forbid) an hotel room with meals provided gratis (STPC)?

Thanks Melbournian1.

Below is from the Jetstar email:

At the Airport: Speak directly to a Jetstar team member.

If you are currently at the airport:
If you have been delayed overnight and Melbourne is not your home airport (or is more than 50km from your residence), we will arrange overnight accommodation for you. Please speak to our team at the airport for more information.

If you are not currently at the airport:
If Melbourne is not your home airport (or is more than 50km from your residence), and you are not already at the airport, you may prefer to arrange your own accommodation.

If you do (or in the event we are unable to arrange accommodation), we will reimburse the following out-of-pocket expenses (upon provision of receipts):

Hotel Room Up to AUD150.00 per room
Meal/Other expenses Up to AUD30.00
Transport to/from airport to hotel including taxi if no bus or train service is available

We were notified at 10:30am so were still at home, and although I considered booking a hotel at the airport given the early departure we opted to stay home and will just catch an uber.

Hopefully no more delays tomorrow morning.

Thanks Melbournian1...
Hopefully no more delays tomorrow morning.

Of JQ's 11 B788s, the only one that appears to be defective is VH-VKH that arrived in MEL on Friday 11 January at 1043 hours and has not been used since. Coincidentally yesterday parent QF had A388 VH-OQH defective yesterday, so that says a lot for the supposedly "lucky" eighth letter of the alphabet.

On Sunday 13 January, the 1005 hours morning MEL up to DPS, JQ43 has been delayed until at least 1605 this afternoon in its departure (although Melbourne Airport suggests '1635.')

JQ17, the 1520 hours MEL - HKT is expected to depart at 2220 hours late tonight.

Worst of all is the 1635 hours MEL - HNL today (13 January) that has been delayed until 0800 hours tomorrow morning, Monday 14 January in its departure ex MEL.

Until defective aircraft B788 VH-VKH is back in service, these significant delays will continue during this busy time.

JQ43, the Monday 14 January 1005 hours MEL - DPS and returning flight JQ44 have been cancelled. This is one way of 'recovering' schedules that isn't to everyone's liking.

JQ68 from CGO down to MEL has VH-VKI and should arrive at about 1445 hours on Sudnay 13 afternoon, 115 minutes late.

On Sunday 13 January 2019, unusually numbered JQ1036 (B788 VH-VKJ) is operating, having taken off from DPS at 1227 for a projected MEL arrival at 2042 hours. It had been north on JQ1035 this morning, so this may be a response to the spate of cancellations on this route (with another one northbound tomorrow as I noted two posts above and Silvia also remarked upon.

VH-VKH remains inoperative as far as carrying revenue passengers goes.

On Sunday 13 January...
JQ17, the 1520 hours MEL - HKT is expected to depart at 2220 hours late tonight.....

B788 VH-VKJ was the aircraft, arriving as JQ1036 ex DPS, taking off from MEL at 2232 and on Monday 14 January arriving HKT at 0235 hours.

JQ18 then took off from HKT at 0429 - a shocker of a time - compared with its scheduled departure of 2145. MEL arrival on 14 January should be at about 1637 hours, 377 minutes tardy.

JQ1, the overnight delayed 1635 hours Sunday MEL up to HNL has been further put back to an estimated pushback at 0830 hours on Monday.

With MEL having been closed to inbound flights between about 0930 and 1000 hours on Monday 14 January 2019, some flights have diverted to CBR or SYD.

JQ732, the 0845 hours LST up to MEL took off early at 0851 but A321 VH-VWW was held for a while above Korumburra so is arriving at 1026, 36 minutes late.

A320 VH-VFJ on the 0915 hours MEL up to PPP, JQ832, was airborne at 1022 so will be at least 40 late arriving.

JQ506 (0925 hours MEL - SYD, A320 VH-VQA) was still as at 1054 queuing for takeoff so will be at least 70 minutes late arriving.

In more on Monday 14 January 2019, JQ721 (A320 VH-VGF), the 1040 hours was not airborne until 1239 so the predicted 1422 hours arrival will be 107 minutes behind the schedule.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 15 January, JQ29 from MEL to BKK has been amended in its proposed departure from 1435 hours mid afternoon to 2250 at night, or 495 minutes late.

The issues affecting B788 VH-VKH must be serious and time consuming to fix as it hasn't carried passengers since arriving in MEL at 1043 hours on Friday 11 January 2019.

Also on 14 January, A320 VH-VFJ is on its PPP - MEL return leg with estimated arrival at 1623 hours, 38 late.

JQ574, the 1325 hours MEL up to BNE was not pointing skywards until 1514, so arrival for A320 VH-VFU is delayed until 1609, 89 late.

The OOL down to SYD JQ411 has VH-VQA and should be at its destination ramp at 1643, 117 minutes behind the timetable.
