Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

...The 1 July JQ25 (0700 hours morning MEL - CNS - NRT) is predicted to depart at 0735 hours.

This turned out to be an underestimate of the delay, as B788 VH-VKB did not take off until 0840 hours. Arrival in CNS should be 1121 hours, 61 late.

Strangely, JQ8990 (presumably empty - 'ferry' - flight) is also operating on the same route, with VH-VKA having taken off from MEL at 0815 hours.

MEL_Traveller and Quickstatus' assertion that JQ lacks sufficient B788s to operate all its published international timetables (ex and to Oz) becomes truer by the day.

In more on 1 July 2019, JQ432 (1005 hours MEL - OOL) took off at 1053 with A321 VH-VWX. Arrival should be at 1243, 38 late.

Continuing with 1 July, not only is the JQ64 arrival in MEL at 1000 hours this morning cancelled, but JQ44, the DPS down to MEL due in at 2000 hours this evening will instead arrive at 0745 tomorrow morning.

One has to feel sorry for the many occasional, relatively uninformed patrons who book on JQi and who are expecting a trouble free journey. On many days each month JQ has problems, so MEL_Traveller and Quickstatus' assertion on this forum that this QF subsidiary lacks sufficient B788s to run all its timetabled flights seems truer by the day.

While there is no remedy easily available to disappointed passengers, it's misleading of JQ to issue an online timetable yet regularly not live up to that commitment. I don't believe it's solely because of 'issues' with individual aircraft, but more a failure to have enough in the fleet.

One could not recommend booking any international flight on JQ ex or to Oz unless you have a lot of time and patience. Although foreign airlines are by their nature not based here, many - in excess of 30 - operate their published timetables and rarely cancel international flights in the way JQ does.

Parent QF's care factor would seem to be zero, on the basis that JQ's advertising is heavily directed at young, inexperienced travellers who salivate at the thought of visiting Bali or coughet as their first trip from Australia and who merely shrug their shoulders or giggle if there's a severe flight delay, or a cancellation or two.

In further on a wintry and fairly blustery Monday 1 July 2019 in MEL - winds at Tulla gusting to 50kmh - JQ518 (A321 VH-VWX, the 1605 hours MEL - SYD in the sky at 1657) should arrive at 1808, 38 late.

Also, JQ795 MCY-MEL (A320 VH-VGZ) has a revised arrival at 20 56, 71 min tardy.

JQ143 SYD-CHC has a revised departure at 21 40. 120 min late.

JQ527 SYD-MEL has a tentative departure at 21 30, 50 min behind schedule.

Tuesday 2 July 2019 has JQ503, the 0700 hours early morning SYD - MEL (A320 VH-VFF) not becoming airborne until 0812. Expected arrival is 0952, 77 late as it had to undertake a couple of racecourse circuits in holding above Mt Buller.

JQ43 (0915 hours MEL - DPS, B788 VH-VKH) was not in the sky until 1023 hours so suggested arrival is at 1404 hours, 49 late.

Wednesday 3 July 2019 finds JQ473, first of the morning at 0605 hours from NTL down to MEL (A320 VH-VFH) not airborne until 0738 hours. Expected arrival is 0903 hours, 78 late.

JQ531 (0640 hours SYD - MEL in the sky at 0819, A321 VH-VWU) should be at its equivalent of a gate at 0939 hours, 84 late.

On Wednesday 3 July, JQ8993 is operating, presumably as a ferry flight from MEL to what looks like SYD. B788 VH-VKI took off at 0852, indicative of an airline that has to constantly shuffle its B788s around because there aren't sufficient where they should be.

As if to prove that point, JQ7, the 1110 hours twice weekly MEL - SIN has been altered to depart at 2130 tonight. That means a delay greater then the blocks off to blocks on time of the flight. JQ8 however may be unaffected because it doesn't depart until Thursday 4 at 2100 ex SIN. As MEL_Traveller sagaciously commented many pages back, JQ7/JQ8 are unreliable. It's unfortunate to say the least that if there are spare seats on say QF35 (1155 hours ex MEL A388), some passengers aren't placed on it, or even flown via SYD to connect to QF1 this afternoon, the 1555 hours.

When I flew the JQ7 a couple months ago the guy next to me commented this was the first time he'd booked JQ and actually flown JQ (on the JQ7). The previous times he'd been acocmmodated onto the QF service. Didn't find out if JQ business got QF business or PEY though.

It is odd that the plane seems to sit in Singapore for so long. Wonder if it is for some sort of maintenance check?

My suspicion is that even if the JQ7 runs as planned, another major 787 service somewhere wlse will be cancelled... like BKK, HKT or DPS.

In another 3 July 2019 delay, JQ67 from MEL to CGO is predicted to depart half an hour late at 1500 hours, mid afternoon.

The 1415 hours MEL - HBA (JQ705) was up up and away at 1456, so arrival is 1600, half an hour late for VH-VGN.

JQ477 (1425 hours NTL down to MEL, A320 VH-VGJ) took off at 1511 hours with suggested arrival 1641, 36 late.

UPDATE: VH-VGN has lost more time, with its 1600 hours HBA - MEL (JQ702) not taking off until 1657. Predicted arrival is 1704, 49 late.

JQ44, the 3 July 2019 DPS - MEL arrived at 2039 hours, 39 late.

JQ442 (1930 hours MEL - OOL) did not take off until 2043 so arrival for A320 VH-VGJ should be at 2230 tonight, an hour behind.

On Thursday 4 July, JQ761 from ADL across to SYD, the 0720 hours was airborne at 0804 so A320 VH-VGO looks to be arriving at 1017, 37 minutes late.

B788 VH-VKD on JQ17 (Thursday 4 July, the 1450 hours MEL - HKT) took off at 1610, so delayed arrival is projected as 2141 tonight local time, 56 down. It had arrived at 1430 hours (85 minutes late) on JQ68 ex mainland China's CGO, so was pretty prompt in turning around for'the 17.'

The 1405 hours OOL down to SYD, JQ421 has A320 VH-VQP but was not in the sky until 1551, so its equivalent to an 'at gate' arrival time is 1704 hours, 89 late.

On Friday 5 July, the 0700 hours MEL - CNS initial sector is expected to depart 50 minutes late. From the gate numbers (14A), this looks to be formed by the 0620 hours arrival from SIN, JQ8.

It wouldn't be normal for an international airline to schedule an 0620 hours medium size aircraft arrival for an 0700 hours departure, so once again MEL_Traveller and Quickstatus' contention about JQ having insufficient aircraft for its published timetables comes to the fore.

Thursday 4 has JQ416 (A320 VH-VQP, the 1620 hours afternoon SYD - OOL airborne at 1804) arriving at an estimated 1911 hours, 91 late.

Later on 4 July 2019, JQ44 from DPS down to MEL is arriving at 2154 hours, 114 minutes late as this scheduled 1235 hours did not take off until 1457 this afternoon. Aircraft is B788 VH-VKG.

AVV looks to have had fog early on the morning of Friday 5 July with JQ602, the 0600 hours first of the day to SYD not taking off until 0740 with A320 VH-VFF. Arrival should be at 0845 or later, so at least 80 minutes late.

JQ456 (A320 VH-VGH, the 0725 hours SYD up to BNK airborne at 0809) should arrive at 0911 hours, 31 late.

The 0655 hours SYD - BNE, JQ812, took off at 0743 so arrival is 0858, 33 minutes behind schedule for VH-XJE.

JQ952 (0600 hours SYD up to CNS, A321 VH-VWT) was in the sky at 0651. Resultant expected arrival is 35 late at 0945.

In further on Friday 5 July 2019, probably due to concerns about fog continuing to hang around at AVV, JQ605, the 0755 hours SYD - AVV did not become airborne until 0935. A320 VH-VFF should arrive at 1048 hours, 78 minutes late.

In the afternoon of Friday 5 July, JQ712 from HBAS up to MEL, the 1430 hours, took off at 1509 with A320 VH-VFT. Arrival should be at 1616 hours, 31 late.

The opposite direction - southbound - has the 1415 hours ex MEL (JQ705, VH-VQH) airborne at 1529 so its on ramp arrival should be 1633, 63 late.

JQ702, the 1600 hours HBA - MEL was in the sky at 1723 with arrival for VH-VQH at 1832, 77 late.

JQ576 (1655 hours MEL - BNE) should depart 50 minutes late.

JQ524, the Sunday 7 July 0855 hours MEL - SYD was airborne at 1003 with A321 VH-VWU. Arrival via a foggy Sydney region should be at 1136, 71 late as the plane had to hold above Tumut and subsequently a little away from Gunning.
