Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

On Saturday 8 February, Sydney and Brisbane continue to be very wet (but Melbourne warm to hot, and dry) as JQ761, the 1240 hours lunchtime ADL across to SYD (A320 VH-JQZ) that took off at 1316 has predicted arrival at 1539 hours, 34 minutes behind. Probably due to ATC slowing it down, the plane had an unusual 'U' shaped deviation above Coolac.

JQ500 (Sunday 9 February 2020, the 0620 hours MEL - SYD not airborne until 0715 with A321 VH-VWY) should arrive at 0831 hours, 46 minutes tardy. In the last 23 hours, Sydney Airport has "enjoyed" about 60mm of rain. A lot more will fall today.

VH-JQX on the 0705 hours early morning SYD - OOL (JQ402) had not taken off by 0814 hours.

Later on 9 February, a still very rainy Sydney sees JQ746, the 0935 hours LST to SYD up up and away at 1002 hours with A320 VH-VGH. Arrival should be at 1150, 40 minutes tardy.

JQ784, the 0920 hours SYD up to MCY had not taken off by 1138 hours on Sunday 9 February. As always, it's a ubiquitous A320 - VH-VGM. However, it was taxiing so hopefully will be soon ascending.

Continuing with 9 February, JQ509, the 1040 hours mid morning SYD down to MEL was not airborne until 1402 hours. A320 VH-VGH is suggested as arriving at 1514 hours, 179 minutes behind the timetable.

The 1100 hours SYD - MEL (JQ510, A321 VH-VWY) proceeded into the sky at 1304, so its arrival should be at around the 1508 mark, 153 minutes behind schedule.

The SYD - TSV JQ912, the 1105 hours, is badly late, having taken off at 1351 with A320 VH-JQX. Arrival is predicted for about 1514 hours mid afternoon, 149 minutes late. Note that two posts above, it was 'only' 90 minutes behind schedule, so unfortunately delays have worsened as this extremely rainy 'non-Sun-day' wears on for SYD, BNE and for that matter OOL.

Northbound JQ412 has A320 VH-VFQ and is the 1320 hours lunchtime SYD up to OOL that took off at 1414 hours. Arrival is estimated as 1425, 45 minutes past the allotted.

the 1135 hours SYD up to CNS JQ954 has A320 VH-VFU, becoming airborne at 1233 hours. Arrival should be 1414 hours, 39 minutes late.

JQ49 (B788 VH-VKL), the 1135 hours OOL - ICN newish city pair took off at 1240, so resultant at gate arrival should be 2059 hours, 44 minutes late.

JQ512 is the 9 February 2020 scheduled 1250 hours MEL - SYD (A320 VH-VGH) that was not in the sky until 1625 this afternoon. Expected arrival into a very wet Sydney is 1810 hours, 235 minutes late.

Monday 10 February 2020 finds JQ766, the 0930 hours morning SYD to ADL not taking off until 1023 hours. A320 VH-VQZ should arrive at 1141, 36 minutes late.

JQ7750 may be an empty - 'ferry' flight from MEL to SYD. It took off at 0914 hours with A320 VH-VQQ but at 1030 was still holding above Campbelltown, not the most frequently employed location for holding patterns.

JQ7518 is another transferree from MEL to SYD. VH-VQM took off at 0949 hours. These will be because of the immense amount of rain yesterday (and the day before) throwing schedules into chaos.

The 0810 hours MEL - SYD, JQ504, took off at 1005 hours. VH-VQK is estimated to arrive at 1122 hours, 107 minutes behind the timetable.

SYD had an incredible 162.8mm of rain in the 24 hours to 0900 10 February.

On Tuesday 11 February, JQ765 (0640 hours morning ADL across to SYD) did not take off until 0714 hours so arrival for A320 VH-VQA should be 34 late at 0929 mid morning.

JQ502 (VH-VQK, the 0720 hours MEL up to SYD not in the sky until 0811) looks to be arriving at 0924 hours, 39 behind.

The HKT down to SYD redeye, JQ28 has B788 VH-VKF with a 33 minute tardy 1113 hours arrival suggested.

Later on Tuesday 11 February, JQ769 (1945 hours ADL - SYD airborne at 2029) has A320 VH-VQZ. Suggested arrival is 2242 hours, 32 minutes late.

JQ563 (Wednesday 12 February, the 0855 hours morning BNE - MEL in the air at 1113) has A320 VH-VFD with suggested arrival 1425, 125 minutes late.

JQ38 (Wednesday 12 February redeye at 2230 hours DPS down to SYD) was delayed overnight, as Thursday 13 takeoff was at 0811 hours. B788 VH-VKK arrival looks to be 1637 hours, 557 minutes late. Despite this aircraft being on the ground in MEL yesterday from mid morning at 1024 hours, JQ35, the 1855 hours redeye ex MEL did not take off last night until 2301, arriving DPS at 0112 hours, 207 late. Note that the aircraft did not then depart for SYD for several hours, so perhaps an uncomfortable night for JQi passengers.

Later on 13 February, JQ567 (A320 VH-VQR, the 1925 hours BNE down to MEL in the sky at 2037) looks to be arriving at about 2338 hours, 48 late.

JQ416, the scheduled 1735 hours SYD - OOL took off at 2102 mid evening with A320 VH-VGD. Estimated 2114 hours arrival will be 199 minutes tardy.

JQ783 (ADL up to BNE crosscountry flight), A320 VH-VFT) is the 1700 hours airborne at 1956. Suggested arrival is 169 minutes late at 2144 hours.

There will be a 24 hour strike on Wednesday 19 February at ADL, AVV, BNE, CNS, MEL and SYD airports of Transport Workers Union members - I assume baggage handlers and similar - who work for JQ.

So flights will grind to a halt.

QFd is unlikely to be able to transport all such JQd passengers on the Wednesday, especially on routes like MEL to SYD where JQd has quite a few flights.

Does JQ at DRW, OOL and PER subcontract to or employ baggage handlers who are not covered by the TWU, or where this union has no members?

Passengers on JQ506 aren'[t being shown a lot of love with regards to punctuality on Friday 14 February. This scheduled 0930 hours MEL - SYD flight (A320 VH-VGN) was airborne at 1423 so expected arrival has become 1535, 280 minutes late.

The 1205 hours lunchtime HBA - MEL (A320 VH-VGY) took off at 1354 hours so arrival into an unsettled (weather-wise) MEL looks like 1508 hours, 103 minutes late. In the other direction, the 1120 hours MEL - HBA was not pointing skywards until 1409 so arrival should be 1508, 183 minutes behind the schedule.

Saturday 15 February has JQ904 (0600 hours BNE up to TSV, A320 VH-VQL) taking off at 0721. Expected arrival is 61 late at 0856 hours.

JQ504 (A320 VH-VQR) is the 0810 hours morning MEL - SYD airborne at 0919 hours, so suggested arrival has become 1037, 62 minutes tardy.

Another on the same route, JQ528 with VH-VFO is the 0845 hours airborne at 0948, so its arrival is estimated at 1058, 48 behind.

Continuing with 15 February, A321 VH-VWY is operating JQ700, the timetabled 0755 hours morning HBA up to MEL that did not become airborne until 1134 hours. Forecast arrival is 1240 hours, 205 late. The plane was only nine minutes late arriving in HBA this morning at 0724 hours from MEL as JQ701, so something has gone badly wrong in the island capital.

As a result JQ432 from MEL to OOL, the 1000 hours, will be baldy late with pushback not until at least 1320 this afternoon.

The 1435 hours afternoon MEL - BKK (JQ29) is forecast to depart 55 minutes late.

JQ514, the 1520 hours MEL - SYD on Saturday 15 February was cancelled.

Thye 0700 hours ex CNS, JQ953, on Sunday 16 February took off at 0829 hours o A320 VH-VFJ should arrive as JQ953 in SYD at 1204 hours, 69 minutes late.

Here's an interesting question for the AFF crowd, I am booked on JQ26 the NRT-CNS (overnight flight so leaves on 18th and arrives early am on 19th in CNS) - what do we think the chances are my bags will get unloaded at CNS? Assuming Jetstar Japan staff aren't on strike and flight leaves as scheduled?
