Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

JQ141, the 1735 hours SYD - CHC (15 December 2015) departed 34 minutes late but is predicted to be an extraordinary 115 minutes late arriving at 0030 on Wednesday morning instead of 2235 hours on Tuesday evening.

The extremely heavy SYD storms today (Wednesday 16 Deember) led to numerous delays (and not just to JQ) with JQ947, the 1430 hours CNS to MEL taking off at 1704, and arrival expected at 2116 hours, two hours and 26 minutes late. The aircraft is A321 VH-VWW.

JQ769, the 1815 hours ADL to SYD has been cancelled, as has JQ927, the final evening QF group flight (timetabled to depart at 1940) tonight from BNE to SYD. JQ821, the 1720 hours late afternoon flight from BNE to SYD arrived at 2131 hours instead of 1955, 96 minutes behind time.

JQ143, the 1925 evening flight from SYD to CHC did not take off until 2055 and as VH-VQU, an A320, should arrive 70 minutes behind time at 0035 on Thursday 17 December.

JQ527, the 2050 hours from SYD to MEL has been cancelled. Earlier, the 1400 hours southbound, JQ517 also did not operate. JQ519, the 1620 ez SYD and JQ521, the 1725 hours also got the gong.

JQ524, the 2045 MEL to SYD took off at 2156 on runway 27 so it is cutting it fine for the 2300 hours SYD curfew. VH-VQA is the A320.

It would be great if someone could report how they were accommodated on another flight. There must be more empty seats flying (potentially) around than I would have though nine days prior to Christmas Day given the absence of media or AFF complaints.

On Thursday 16 December, the sadly usual MEL - PER cancellations of JQ972 (the 0640 hours) and JQ976 (the 1600 hours) are again occurring, byut added to that is a newbie cancellation, JQ946, the 1115 from MEL to CNS.

JQ725, the 1725 hours SYD to HBA on Thursday 17 December 2015 took off at 1833 and is now due in Tassie 38 minutes late at 2008 this evening. A321 VH-VWY is the aircraft.

JQ724 HBASYD has been delayed in Hobart overnight due to missing curfew in Sydney. The crew are overnighting and will take the aircraft back to SYD tomorrow morning, unsure of time.

JQ677, the 0120 hours Friday 17 December from DRW to MEL took off at 0328 and should arrive at 0858 instead of 0700 hours with A320 VH-VFU. As a result JQ792 to MCY ex MEL is to be delayed an even two hours from 0800 to 1000.

The usual two MEL - PER return flights have again been cancelled as has JQ504, the 0825 hours MEL to SYD and earlier, JQ501, the 0740 arrival in MEL ex SYD.

They have some serious crewing issues at the moment, someone obviously forgot to see if they had enough Pilots to get through the festive season. All very well adding extra flights before checking if it's possible to crew them.

I'd be careful flying them towards the end if this month as Pilots start to hit max hour limits.

Meanwhile tonight's last AVV-SYD got stuck at Avalon again, Syd based crew. Looks like that tried to get out of Avalon 2150 departure but cancelled last minute

Avalon not exactly a great place to be stuck in, pretty much middle of nowhere, bit of a hike to the nearest hotel.

JQ2 from HNL to MEL is arriving almost four hours late on Saturday 19 December at 2030 hours instead of the timetabled 1640. In turn this will delay JQ35 from MEL to DPS that is forecast to be off blocks at 2230 late this evening instead of 1845. In turn, the Sunday 20 December arrival of JQ36 ex DPS in MEL is suggested as 1110 instead of 0745, but this is impossible to know yet to that level of accuracy.

It is extremely hot in MEL today and whether or not connected to the temperature, JQ's woes continue as far as running late goes. The 1010 to LST, JQ733, did not take off until 1143 this morning; similarly on Saturday 19 December the next LST flight, JQ735 did not take off ex MEL until 1255. JQ574's MEL departure for BNE has been delayed from 1320 to an expected 1430 hours while the 1515 to CNS, JQ950 is forecast as 40 minutes late in departing. JQ474, the 1205 MEL - NTL did not take off until 1300 hours while JQ464, the 1015 to BNK took off 47 minutes after its pushback time at 1102.

JQ438 from MEL to OOL is expected to depart 55 minutes late at 1555.

Often Saturday afternoon is quiet, a comment that applies to many Australian air and surface transport modes but close to Christmas that is untrue, so expect more late running this evening depending as always on individual rotations' allowed turnaround times. There would also be more children travelling given the onset of school holidays and Christmas family reunions so that can hardly help punctuality, as family groups can be slower to board than a group of businessmen and women.

Aye Aye Cap'n, many thanks.

JQ109, the 1100 21 December DPS to PER did not take off until 1429 Indonesian (and Perth!) time today with arrival expected three hours and four minutes late at 1744, A320 VH-VFI operating the flight.

The return JQ8 now shows up as cancelled as well. There's very few Y availability on QF and SQ so I would assume the affected pax to be stuck in SIN tonight.

Awesom Andy, is switching these passengers to EK a possible option in the next day or so, or are its flights similarly full or very close to it? (I'd expect that a couple of days prior to Christmas).

EK404 is fully booked or overbooked in Y for at least today and tomorrow. However, the Scoot flight departing at 00:40 has plenty of availability (I can buy 20 tickets at $295 SGD a piece) so if they must look for commercial availability, I suspect this is where pax will end up.

Awesome Andy, I had thought that while paying for tickets on another (non group or alliance) airline was often done 20 or 30 years ago (as I remember it, commonplace between 'Chance It' and 'Tat-Tar') but how often in 2015 do you think it occurs?

Is it a matter of airline weighing factors such as little or no spare seats for a few days on its or its group/ alliance flights (in this case QF/JQ/EK) and paying a competitor versus accommodating passengers

Most likely somewhere between a needle in a haystack and no needles at all. Looking for other commercial availability would be option Z, but having said that, accommodating a single pax in a hotel room in SIN around Christmas plus the applicable meals allowances and transfers could possibly cost more than a $295 ticket. JQ pax are probably more loyal to their wallet than the airline, especially when QF also flies this route.

Avalon not exactly a great place to be stuck in, pretty much middle of nowhere, bit of a hike to the nearest hotel.

What, 20 mins to Geelong (Four Points Sheraton, mercure etc) Vs 30 mins to downtown from Tulla (admittedly there are onsite hotels but in practice they arent always the ones used in IRROPS)?

JQ38 from DPS took off on Tuesday 22 December at 2335, 70 minutes after its published departure time so it is about 40 minutes late into SYD on Wednesday 23, being expected to arrive at about 0750 with B788 VH-VKK undertaking the task.

I'd be careful flying them towards the end if this month as Pilots start to hit max hour limits.

Limits are not based on calendar months.

The limits are based on rolling 365, 30 and 7 day restrictions....so people could be hitting them at any time of the month.
