Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

JQ162 from WLG to MEL on New Year's Day 2016 is an hour late, arriving at roughly 0950.

JQ962, the 1015 MEL - PER is again delayed this morning - from 1015 to a suggested 1135 - in its departure. The 'usual two' MEL - PER - MEL flights are again cancelled.

JQ604, the 0905 AVV - ZSYD (VH-VQG) took off at 1019 and should be in SYD by 1127, 57 minutes late.

JQ17, the 1530 MEL - HKT on New Year's Day took off at 1611 this afternoon (B788 VH-VKI) and should arrive at 2100, 40 minutes late.

JQ795 from MCY to MEL will be arriving at 0135 instead of 0025 on Saturday 2 January, as the Friday evening JQ794 northwards departed MEL 99 minutes late.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

JQ952 (A321 VH-VWX), the 0615 2 January 2016 SYD - CNS took off at 0740 and hence will arrive an hour late at 0920.

JQ515, the 1340 from SYD to MEL departed 85 minutes late at 1505 this afternoon but is expected to have gained 20 minutes en route to MEL for a 1620 hours arrival. JQ523, the 1830 on the same route is forecast to depart 25 minutes late while northbound, JQ818 from SYD to BNE should leave at 1850 hours rather than 1820.

JQ521 from SYD to MEL should depart at 1805 rather than 1725.

While it is the Christmas holidays, this Saturday is not the busiest day yet once again JQ's Sydney to Melbourne and return planes cannot maintain anything close to punctuality despite arguably generous timetables, especially the 95 minutes gate-to-gate allowed southbound.

JQ29 from MEL to BKK has been delayed an expected two hours in its departure until 1635. The return flight will inevitably be delayed for anyone sitting in an hotel room or out sightseeing in the Thai capital today.

UPDATE: JQ29 did not take of until about 1730, so it is almost three hours late.

JQ783 from ADL to BNE (A320 VH-VFT), the 1705 hours, took off at 1753 and therefore will be about half an hour late arriving.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Sunday 3 January, JQ25, the 0900 from SYD to CNS and on to NRT is forecast to be delayed until 1150 in its initial departure, meaning that all its legs including the return this evening will be quite late.

JQ223, the 0940 SYD - ZQN, did not depart until 1037 with arrival in New Zealand's slopes expected at 1532 rather than 1435.

JQ733, the 1010 MEL - LST is not expected to depart until 1130 (this was initially shown as '1050' and subsequently '1105' then '1120' - not a good sign to have delays blowing out as the morning progresses) while JQ432 from MEL to OOL has been delayed from 1000 until 1040.

JQ575, the 0935 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE is not arriving until 1037.

Amazingly, JQ976, the 1600 hours to PER ex MEL that is so often cancelled , is running today but both it and JQ972, the early morning 0640 from MEL to PER are cancelled on Monday 4 January 2016. As other AFFers have suggested these cancellations may well be due to JQ having insufficient tech crew availability.

UPDATE: JQ25 on 3 January did not depart from SYD until 1306; it is likely to arrive CNS at 1455, three hours and 55 minutes late.

JQ30, the redeye from BKK to MEL arrived after 1300, more than three hours late.

JQ201 between SYD and AKL was 61 minutes late arriving at 1456 hours.

JQ764, the 1255 hours SYD across to ADL has been cancelled.

JQ737, the 1440 MEL - LST was shown as delayed in taking off until an expected 1530 due to the above tardiness on the MEL - LST route earlier in the day, but did not take off until 1600 hours. JQ440 from MEL to OOL is forecast to depart 45 minutes behind time at 1640.

JQ566, the 1800 MEL to BNE is expected to take off at 1850.

JQ1 from MEL to HNL has been delayed from 1700 to an expected evening take off of 1900 hours.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The 4 January 2016 JQ7 from MEL to SIN took off at 1341 hours, significantly later than its gate departure time of 1210 hours and meaning an arrival in the form of B788 VH-VKD at approximately 1815, 85 minutes late.

JQ766, the 1345 SYD to ADL is shown as delayed until 1425 but that was more than 20 minutes ago as I write.

JQ723, the 1350 SYD to HBA was delayed in its departure until an expected 1450 hours, but ended up not departing until 1514. Arrival is forecast at 1709 rather than 1545, 84 minutes late.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

There's a long turn-around in SIN, so at least JQ8 will be on time if nothing else gets in the way.

Are the SYD delays due to weather? There's quite a bit of rain today (at least enough to stop the cricket).

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Awesome Andy, the weather would hardly be assisting punctuality. Arrivals in SYD are presently from the north. JQ519, the 1620 SYD down to MEL took off at 1730 and should be in the southern capital at about 1845, 60 minutes late (A320 VH-VFP.)

From AVV to SYD this afternoon, JQ608 was timetabled to depart at 1735 but took off at 1843, with arrival expected at about 1945 hours, 45 minutes behind time. The aircraft is VH-VQG, an Airbus A320.

Much further north, JQ889 (A320 VH-VGO) from MKY to BNE should arrive at about 1910 hours, 70 minutes late.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Tuesday 5 January, JQ501, the 'first of the day' 0605 SYD to MEL is cancelled, as is JQ560, the 0730 MEL - BNE.

JQ728 from LST to MEL is predicted to leave at 0825 rather than 0735 as JQ729, the 0600 MEL to LST did not depart until 0647, arriving LST at 0740 instead of the timetabled 0705.

If JQ in MEL cannot manage to get the first flights of the day away close to time, this can often mean delays to many other flights throughout the day as aircraft bays in MEL are occupied at other than the rostered times, staff are delayed and so on.

JQ82 from DPS to DRW (A320 VH-VFP) is about 45 minutes late and should arrive at approximately 0715 hours.

JQ35, last night's (4 January) 1845 hours evening MEL to DPS is not departing until 1215 today (5 January.) JQ36, the 0745 hours 5 January 2015 arrival in MEL ex DPS is hugely delayed and not due until 0045 on Wednesday morning, 6 January.

JQ162 from WLG to MEL is arriving at 1011 rather than 0850, delaying the return flight.

JQ504, the 0825 MEL to SYD is forecast to depart at 0900 while a longer duration departure delay of 85 minutes is expected for JQ705, the 0830 MEL - HBA that instead of arriving at 0945 is likely to be at the HBA gate at 1110. JQ508, the 0945 MEL to SYD is not forecast to depart until 1030.

JQ664, the 0940 MEL to AYQ is not predicted to leave until 1020.

JQ43, the 0955 MEL to DPS is forecast to depart 50 minutes behind time at 1045.

JQ952 from MEL to PER is also significantly delayed with departure now set for 1135 in lieu of 1015. International flight JQ219 (MEL to ZQN) is expected to depart at 1105 rather than 1020.

JQ814, the 1055 SYD to BNE has been cancelled.

UPDATE: JQ705 from MEL to HBA is further delayed to an expected departure time of 1015, 105 minutes behind time as JQ728 from LST to MEL is not arriving until 0941, 66 minutes late.

JQ7994 from CNS to MEL (B788 VH-VKG) is about to land in MEL at about 1015. Will this form the very late JQ35 to DPS?

JQ705 (A320 VH-VWU) from MEL to HBA departed at 1046, 136 minutes late.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

JQ563, the 1300 hours 5 January arrival from BNE to MEL has been cancelled as has JQ793, the 1315 hours MEL arrival from MCY. One of the usual PER - MEL cancellations, JQ977 (timetabled in at 1500 mid afternoon) is also, as 'normal', failing to operate.

JQ1, the 1700 hours MEL to HNL will depart at 2155 on 5 January, almost a five hour delay.

JQ444 departed 74 minutes late at 1514 from MEL to OOL. The 1500 hours MEL to BNE, JQ564, was 42 minutes late leaving.

JQ607, the 1525 hours SYD to AVV departed 70 minutes late. JQ414 (1600 SYD to OOL) departed 54 minutes late at 1654 this afternoon. JQ519 down to MEL ex SYD has been delayed by 35 minutes from 1620 to 1655, as has JQ521, the scheduled 1725 hours on the same route and in the same direction.

JQ17 from MEL to HKT departed 72 minutes late at 1642 and is expected to arrive in Thailand at 2138, 78 minutes tardy.

JQ476 from MEL to NTL is expected to arrive 57 minutes late at 1807. JQ703 from MEL to HBA departed 49 minutes behind time at 1639 hours. JQ778 from MEL to ADL is expected to leave 35 minutes late at 1900 hours.

JQ819, the 1455 hours from BNE to SYD is expected to depart at 1620, 85 minutes late (which was a minute ago as I write.)

JQ820 from SYD to BNE, the 1840 hours departure has been cancelled.

UPDATE: Aircraft are in holding patterns on the evening of Tuesday 5 January as the rain (72 millimetres in 34.5 hours to 1930 hours) continues at BNE airport. The 1940 hours BNE to SYD JQ827 has been cancelled, while teh earlier JQ825 scheduled to depart at 1855 on the same route is publicly shown as departing at 1945 but it may not have run - I have not further checked.

JQ487, the 1915 hours BNE to NTL was showing as delayed until 2020 but that time has passed. The 1950 hours to MEL, JQ567 is delayed until 2045 in its departure while JQ938 for CNS is forecast to depart 50 minutes behind time at 2100 hours. JQ906, the 1920 hours early evening flight from BNE to TSV is antcipated to depart two hours behind time.

Previous observations suggest that many of these estimates blow out to further unpredicted delays when the weather is not co-operating.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The 2045 hours MEL to SYD, JQ524, has been cancelled on 5 January, presumably stranding passengers in MEL. One of the hazards of flying on the MEL - SYD route with OneStar.

JQ1, the 1700 MEL to HNL will not be departing until a projected 2225 hours, the delay having increased from that shown above.

JQ780 departed for ADL ex MEL 79 minutes behind time at 2059.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Wednesday 6 January 2016, JQ472, the 0615 early morning MEL to NTL departed at 0627 but (due to heavy rain?) has been diverted to SYD, arriving at 0752 hours.

JQ560, the 0730 hours MEL - BNE has been badly delayed until an expected 0915 hours departure. JQ705, the 0830 MEL - HBA is delayed until 0925 while as a result of ongoing delays on the route, JQ43 is delayed in leaving MEL from 0955 to a forecast 1310 on its journey to DPS.

JQ707, another MEL to HBA is delayed from 1030 to a suggested 1120 while the much longer distance JQ7, the 1210 MEL to SIN has been changed to depart at 1250 hours.

The two 'usual' MEL - PER and return cancellations are again occurring, while JQ814, the 1055 SYD to BNE is also not operating today.

As well as JQ501 having been cancelled from SYD to MEL (see above), so was JQ503, the 0700 departure while JQ507 is delayed from 0825 to 0855. JQ458 from SYD to BNK, the 1000 departure is expected to be two hours late. JQ660 (1030 'tourist special' from SYD to AYQ) will suffer an expected half hour delay.

Continuing the delays of the last couple of days, the DPS - MEL 2255 hours 6 January arrival of JQ44 is two and a quarter hours later at an 'uncomfortable' arrival time of 0210 hours - 0400 or later to bed for some travellers, unfortunately.

Update: delays continue. JQ566, the 1800 hours MEL - BNE, departed at 1902, JQ518, the 1805 hours MEL - SYD departed 64 minutes late. JQ520, the following 1845 hours flight departed 40 minutes late, arriving SYD 34 minutes behind time this evening. JQ794, the 2010 hours MEL to MCY departed 40 minutes late. JQ522, the 1940 hours MEL - SYD left 57 minutes behind time.

JQ715, the 1945 hours MEL to HBA is shown as departing at 2045 but that was 20 minutes ago. JQ446 is delayed by half an hour from its scheduled 2100 hours MEL departure for OOL.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

JQ408, the 1110 SYD to OOL looks like it departed at 1137 and arrived back in SYD at 1209, and was then cancelled. I have not checked this on Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker! or FlightAware - Flight Tracker / Flight Status / Flight Tracking

JQ786 from SYD to MCY is also delayed from its timetabled 1130 departure. The 1145 JQ203 (SYD - AKL) will be at lest 50 minutes late departing.

JQ513, the 1245 SYD to MEL has been cancelled as has the 1400 hours departure, JQ517. JQ515, the 1340 hours SYD to MEL will be delayed in leaving by almost two hours to a forecast 1535 this afternoon.

JQ460 from SYD to BNK, the increasingly popular closest airport to Byron Bay, is delayed by two hours from its usual 1500 off blocks to 1700. JQ414 (SYD - OOL) should depart at 1645 rather than 1600 hours. JQ768, the 1610 SYD to ADL is expected to depart half an hour behind time. JQ795 from SYD to HBA should depart 50 minutes late at 1825.

JQ514, the mid afternoon 1515 hours from MEL north to SYD has been cancelled, as has the next flight, JQ516, the 1615 hours departure.

JQ888, the 1435 BNE to 'sgar capital' MKY is delayed by an expected half an hour as is JQ5, the 1700 long haul departure from the Sunshine State capital to HNL.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

A320 VH-VGV operating JQ724, the 2000 hours 7 January HBA to SYD took off at 2111 tonight and is about to arrive in SYD at about 2245, an hour late.

JQ425, the 1920 hours AEST OOL - SYD is about 50 minutes late and will be in the Harbour City's terminal at about 2238. Aircraft is A320 VH-VFN.

JQ524, the 2045 MEL to SYD (A320 VH-VGA) would not have wanted to be a great deal later as it will be at the terminal at about 2250. JQ750, the 2045 LST - SYD will oull up at the gate at about 2255, 40 minutes late (VH-JQX.)

JQ742 (A320 VH-VQK) can unfortunately beat all of these flights for unpunctuality as it is timetabled out of LST at 1825 but did not take off until 2154, and hence will be in MEL at about 2245, three hours and 15 minutes late.

JQ958, the 2040 hours SYD - CNS (A320 VH-VGU) took off at 2234 and should arrive at about 0022 on Friday 8 January, an hour and 37 minutes late.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Friday 8 January, JQ501 and JQ503, the 0605 and 0700 respectively timetabled departures ex SYD for MEL are both cancelled. Northbound, JQ506, the 0915 is cancelled.

Is this due to low bookings or because JQ does not have sufficient available tech crew (with available hours) to operate these flights, so it chooses to put passengers on either its later ones or QF?

JQ510, the 1040 SYD, did not depart until 1147, arriving SYD 64 minutes late.

JQ786, the 1130 SYD to MCY departed 58 minutes late, arriving 50 minutes tardy at 1255.

JQ513, the 1245 from SYD to MEL left SYD 89 minutes late at 1414, meaning a post-1600 hours arrival (1602.)

JQ766, the 1345 hours SYD - ADL was advised as at least 45 minutes late in its departure.

JQ711, the 1450 hours MEL to HBA has been delayed from 1450 to an estimated 1625 in its departure.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The Saturday 9 January 2016 JQ500 and JQ510, the 0620 and 1040 hours MEL to SYD and JQ507, the 0825 SYD - MEL have been cancelled.

JQ continues to have major problems on Australia's busiest by far domestic air route. Whether this is due to the claimed shortage of tech crew (pilots) is unknown. One could only recommend booking with QF, TT or VA on this route as none of the latter three appear to have as many cancellations as JQ.

'The usual' cancellations of JQ972 (0640 hours MEL to PER) and JQ976 (1600 hours ex MEL on the same route) apply along with their return workings. These flights are cancelled far more often than they operate. Similarly, if travelling on this transcontinental journey, avoiding JQ may be a sensible strategy.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Sunday 10 January, the 0945 hours MEL to SYD, JQ508, has been cancelled, as have the two 'usual cancellations' returns to PER. JQ464, the 1015 MEL to BNK did not depart until 1050. JQ511, the 1200 'high noon' SYD to MEL has also been given the boot as has JQ517, the 1400 hours flight.

Once again, this shows JQ's chronic unreliability on the MEL to SYD and return route. It would be instructive to know from any AFF members booked on one of these cancelled flights how JQ treated them, how much notice they had of the cancellation and whether they were given the option of transferring to alternative QF or JQ flight times, plus the option of a full refund if desired.

JQ730, the 0810 early Sunday morning from LST to MEL is not expected to depart until 1145. It looked to have earlier arrived nine minutes early on JQ731 at 0731 ex the Victorian capital, so something is awry in Tasmania's second city. Having an aircraft temporarily marooned at an 'outstation' like this is unhelpful to punctuality.

JQ213, the 1250 MEL to AKL is delayed in departing until an expected 1330 hours this afternoon.

JQ400, the 0610 SYD to OOL departed at 0622 but the www.qantas.com.au flight status shows it as 'arriving' at 0917 but then below in a separate entry implies that it was 'cancelled.' Did this flight operate, did it turn back or is one of these merely an error?

JQ766, the 1345 hours SYD to ADL is badly delayed with the revised forecast departure being 1540 this afternoon.

UPDATE: JQ778, the 1825 MEL to ADL, departed at 1938, arriving 68 minutes late at 2023 hours. In turn this is delaying JQ81 from its 2040 hours departure for DRW to a forecast 2125 hours.

JQ143, the 1925 hours from SYD to CHC departed at 2053 with arrival expected at an unseemly 0206 on Monday 11 in lieu of 0025. JQ770 from SYD to ADL left 69 minutes late at 2109.

JQ529 tonight is forecast to be delayed an hour until 2245 in departing for the run down to MEL, uncomfortably close to the commencement of the SYD curfew.

On Monday 11 January JQ7 from MEL to SIN is not expected to depart until 1400 this afternoon. Its normal departure time is 1200.

JQ930 from BNE to CNS, the 1305 hours, is delayed for an extraordinary five hours as its revised departure is at 1820 tonight. An A320 may have failed.

It would be instructive to know from any AFF members booked on one of these cancelled flights how JQ treated them, how much notice they had of the cancellation and whether they were given the option of transferring to alternative QF or JQ flight times, plus the option of a full refund if desired.

JQ516m MEL-SYD scheduled for 16:15 on 10/1/16 was also cancelled. Many were initially being offered seats on the 19:00 flight, but some kicked up a stink and were found earlier seats, mainly on QF.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Thank you OATEK. While remaining polite is helpful in trying circumstances, it will be of great assistance for any AFFers (silly enough to be?) booked on JQ between MEL and SYD where JQ makes a constant habit of cancelling flights at short notice to be aware as per your post that complaining to the JQ ground staff maximises one's chances of suffering a lesser delay.

Being assertive and standing one's ground in such a situation may be the best policy.

If it was a twice in a year storm that bucketed down and closed one of the airports, JQ may have an excuse.

However continually advertising and selling seats on these flights that (surprise!) are cancelled at short notice is questionable corporate behaviour. While like all Australian airlines it does not guarantee 'uplift' on the booked day of departure, traveller perception is that this will occur within a reasonable time of the ticketed departure time. Any delay of more than an hour that is within JQ's control brings into question what it advertises.

If it is true that JQ has a shortage of tech crew compared to the number of flights advertised and sold, that is not the passengers' problem.

The best advice is to avoid this airline between MEL and SYD and instead book on one of the other three. Even TT with its smaller fleet is not cancelling flights as often as JQ.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

JQ711, the 1450 MEL to HBA on Monday 11 January departed 36 minutes late.

JQ932, the 2100 hours evening BNE to CNS was forecast to depart 50 minutes late, but by 2030 AEDT (1930 AEST), the projected departure delay had blown out to 70 minutes.

JQ816 from SYD to BNE departed 54 minutes late at 1814 while JQ521, the 1725 SYD down to MEL is delayed in departing for an expected 95 minutes until 1900. JQ725 from SYD to HBA departed 40 minutes behind time at 1815 while JQ143 ex SYD for CHC is forecast to depart 45 minutes late at 2010 and arrive at 0110 instead of 0025 on Tuesday morning, 12 January.

JQ704, the 1735 HBA to MEL did not leave until 1827 meaning an estimated 52 minute late arrival at 1947.

The BNE to SYD JQ823 was indicated as delayed in departing 50 minutes from 1825 to 1915 tonight Queensland time bu ended up departing at 1924 with a 50 minute late arrival at 2150 forecast.

JQ522, the 1940 hours MEL to SYD has been cancelled.

Continuing the SYD - CNS delays, the 2040 hours JQ958 is suggested as departing at 2205 tonight.

JQ529. the final departure for MEL ex SYD tonight for JQ is cancelled.
