Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Have they cancelled SYD-DPS? Didn't think JQ flew DPS-SIN?? They do fly MEL-SIN direct

Fairly sure that 3K(?) has or has had a PER-DPS-SIN milk run before, not sure if they still offer it. However I'm not sure JQ is currently flying SYD-SIN direct so that is probably where the confusion is

It was operated by JQ when I flew DPS-SIN recently on Boxing Day - flight number was JQ116 (originating in PER) and aircraft rego was VH-XSJ...

JQ has flights to DPS from SYD, MEL, ADL, BNE and PER. From DPS, there is 1 JQ flight (continuation of the PER flight), plus 1 3K flight to SIN. There is also JQ7/8 that provides a non-stop service between MEL and SIN.

Doing a search I cant find any J* flights to Singapore in March any more they all route through Melbourne and the ones we were offered were all A320 no dreamliners like the original booking. To send us the way they did was an insult especially to be downgraded from Business to economy on the Melb to Darwin leg then told we arrive 0:30 connecting at 06:00. Obviously they don't want business passengers to consider using them any more.

Booked Premium on Singapore now, being the day after Easter the cost is much higher now than when I first booked last August.

So I book a Business Flight to Singapore from Sydney last August with a brief stopover in Bali this March and receive a call telling me they have made a slight change to my flight. They now want to fly me to Melbourne two hour stop over then Darwin (in Economy)over night stop over no accom then Singapore arriving after a 19.5 hour trip. I call and discuss the route and how no one in their right mind would fly it and why give no offer of compensation for the extra time and downgrade. Offered nothing, I suggested they move me and my wife to QF5 rather than this but no go so in the end I had to cancel and rebook elsewhere for $1300 more.

As a Gold QFF I thought some effort could have been made to accommodate us after all, we did not make the decision to no longer fly to Singapore from Sydney, they did.

Nothing ever surprises me anymore with rubbish star. Except why people continue to book flights with them.

We flew HNL - SYD on QF4 yesterday and it was chock a block full with JQ4 passengers who'd had their flights cancelled at the gate over the previous two days. Even just thinking about going through that security line a second day in a row makes me feel tired.

JQ7 MEL-SIN is always a Dreamliner - I dont think a 320 would make the difference.
During March it seems to only be operating Sun, Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat

Maybe it was just on that day there was no MEL-SIN direct, and they made some changes to the other flights

JQ37 SYD-DPS is a daily service arriving 2100 in March in DPS, and the obvious connection JQ116 departs 2245 also daily, or a 3K flight early the following morning.
So can't see why the change - unless they have decided 1.45 layover in DPS is not long enough ??

Checking SYD-SIN, the JQ website is happily offering JQ37/116 for all days I checked.

anyhow youve rebooked.

Looks like JQ has had a rough few days with the 787s after a tech issue caused rolling delays, crew hours problem in DPS and a number of SYD/MEL-HNL cancellations

moa999 that's the bit I can not work out, why they told us that the flight was cancelled and we had no other alternative than the 19.5 hour milk run. I have since checked and the JQ37/116 option we had booked is still flying but you can only find them if you search individually.

As you say I have rebooked but why did I have to, who stuffed up. Its all a bit strange really.

I would say that your original SYD-DPS-SIN flights on JQ37 & 116 were detected by JQ and they lied to you about the flights being cancelled. As you say - the flights are still offered and are able to be booked separately but not as one itinerary anymore. I can think of numerous reasons why JQ did this:
1. They are expecting a JQ B787 to be out of service for planned maintenance at this time.
2. Possibly 3K are re-timing or ceasing their flights from DPS-SIN
3. If the Bali volcano blows up again in the future then pax connecting through DPS to SIN could ask to be accommodated on a direct SYD-SIN QFi service (its possible that JQ don't pay when this happens and QFi is getting sick and tired of wearing these costs)
4. The DRW-DPS yields are rubbish and JQ they are trying to push people onto less popular flights. They could have re-routed you through CNS or even TSV?
5. Its easter and airfares are high - maybe JQ will resume selling SYD-DPS flights again - in which case they got to get out of flying you to SIN and get to re-sell seats

I am assuming you were just going through DPS as a transit point and are not intending to stop and stay in Bali. I am also assuming that the airfare was pretty low and probably cheaper than the other alternatives. I would have been screen-shotting the current flights that are running and sending an email instructing JQ to restore the original flight booking with the evidence that the original flights are still scheduled. i.e. collecting evidence for a 'bait and switch' argument. Unfortunately by accepting the refund you lost the chance to follow up on this and I realise that if you had taken this option it would have been a massive pain in the butt without any guaranteed suitable outcome for you and you would have had to have booked a 'Plan B' to get to SIN anyway. So you took your business to SQ in the end. Did you have a look at the ScootBiz prices around your travel dates or were they pretty expensive as well?

Normally speaking, these flights should be able to be booked as 1 booking. So it's either a system glitch for the day in question, or there are specific arrangements where it is not possible to book them with a transit. There was once when a friend has to sit on the carpet and wait while an airport staff took her passport and the previous flight's boarding pass and ran off to search for a JQ staff so I wouldn't consider DPS as a reliable transit point anyhow. Either way, if the set of flights cannot be booked as 1 ticket, the person on the phone probably only saw the overnight DRW option and was not aware of the SYD-DPS-SIN option.

I sort of agree with that point that a lot of people have doubts about DPS being considered a reliable transit point, opinions vary from what I have read here. Some people have had no problems at all and many others have had the devil of a time, so the history seems pretty inconsistent and it seems that both JQ and the Indonseian Government have some sort of interest in making transits in DPS as painful, inconvenient and difficult as possible.

Its a tough decision as personally I wouldn't risk a transit in DPS on two separate bookings if the transit time was less than 2hrs, and you're probably safer travelling HLO and even then its a big risk gambling an expensive fare to places beyond DPS (say Europe, Middle East or Asia) if you have a slight delay when leaving Australia (or if a volcano misbehaves for instance).

They were booked as a single booking not as two flights it was still about $750 pp one way.

I also looked at Scoot and they had subject to approval for those dates so I did not risk it after this. The Singapore Airlines option is safer and a better product in the end. I am hopping on a ship to South Africa and fly back Qantas so that one should be fine at least.

Lessen learnt stop using Jetstar to easy really so many other options out there.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Do JQ passengers receive free hotel accommodation (if JQ can source rooms, sometimes easy and sometimes very difficult or nigh on impossible) overnight, or is that only extended to passengers who live more than a certain distance from MEL, or is it basically still a case of 'you're on your own, sport'?

JQ received some adverse publcity a few years back when no one was ever given hotel rooms in such circumstances. My recollection is it altered its policy.

At 2330 or so tonight, the much delayed JQ1 (and codeshare QF285) (normally departing at 1630) ex MEL to HNL has just been cancelled, so those holidaying in Hawaii may be unaware that their arrangements to get back to Australia may change if booked on the return of this rotation.

Flying back to MEL from HNL in 2012 after my daughter's wedding, we arrived at HNL after an early wake up to find that our flight was delayed by 16 hours. At first the TSA guys would not let us into the airport - none of us had had breakfast yet. Then a QF agent sorted out the TSA and gave us all vouchers for breakfast. Those of us who were QC members went there when it opened. Meanwhile QF and JQ had organised "temporary" accom at the Marriott Waikiki. This consisted of moving portable beds into the ballroom and offering us meal vouchers. After talking quietly to a woman representing JQ we discovered that one of the FA had passed away and a new crew had to be assembled because of the time on duty factor. Don't know if this was right or not, but it was plausible.. Our flight departed HNL at 2355 instead of the 0845 that was scheduled. Thank God my wife and I were flying business. We also each received $200 JQ vouchers.

Re: General Jetstar Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Friday 12 February, JQ945 from CNS to MEL is delayed by 45 minutes, being forecast to arrive at 1435 hours. While JQ have yet to show it, this must mean that JQ711, the 1450 to HBA will depart late, unless gate numbers are altered and a different aircraft used.

Saturday 13 February's MEL - CHC JQ213, the 1630 hours flight, did not take off until 1746 and should arrive at around 2305, an hour behind time in the shape of VH-VQF, an A320.

The Sunday 14 February arrival in SYD ex HKT, JQ28 should be in at about 1215, an hour and 35 minutes late with B788 VH-VKK the aircraft. It took off from HKT 122 minutes later than its timetabled departure last night of 2145 hours.
