Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

JQ119 (0900 hours morning SYD - NAN on Saturday 16 July) is predicted to be an hour behind in its pushback. Another baggage loading delay, or weather problems? From the gate numbers, the aircraft should be B788 VH-VKD that arrived SYD only five minutes late at 0620 this morning as JQ38 from DPS.

Again, JQ119 is tardy, this time on Sunday 17 July with A320 VH-VFU on this 0900 hours airborne at 1036, arrival being at 1630, 90 minutes late.

SYD NAN is an A320 route so it wouldn't be VKD (788) operating the service.

On Wednesday 20 July 2022, JQ57 (B788 VH-VKA, the 0700 hours BNE up to DPS) was airborne at 0818 so estimated arrival is 1212 hours, 57 minutes late.

Mid-winter blues for anyone booked on JQ3 on Saturday 23 July (1630 hours mid afternoon SYD up to HNL) as it's got the flick.

JQ205 (0900 hours SYD - AKL) was still taxiing in Sydney at 1049 so will be at least 80 minutes late.

Any insights about this @Melburnian1 ? Thanks

To put the quote into context, that was Adelaide-based Pushka complaining about Bali flights with Jetstar.

On 15 July 2022, QF's spin doctors said this in a media release:

"...The issues that all airlines are facing now with delayed flights and cancellations are because of the spike in COVID throughout the community leading to higher sickness levels from crew, as well as the economy and industry wide tight labour market..."

Is it 'all airlines?'

To and from Oz, I don't see SQ, EK or others cancelling flights. NZ in contrast has been affected at times and has publicly so admitted.

Domestically, while a far smaller airline with major focus on small rural markets, as it only has a tint B738 fleet, ZL isn't cancelling many flights (except perhaps when the pilots take industrial action as recently has been the case).

On 24 June 2022, QF stated in another spin doctor effort:

Adjusting capacity in response to fuel prices

"The Qantas Group is adjusting its domestic capacity levels for much of FY23 to assist with the recovery of sustained high fuel prices.

For July and August, an additional 5 percentage points of capacity will be removed on top of the 10 per cent announced in May. This total 15 per cent cut will also be applied to September. A cut of 10 percentage points will be applied to schedules from October through to the end of March 2023..."

--------------------------------

Quickstatus, I can only assume that QF is seeing demand drop further, especially for destinations such as DPS given the huge media focus on the possibility of foot-and-mouth disease being imported into Australia, which would be terrible for our livestock subsectors including dairy, beef, pig raising and others.

My guess is many have taken on board the Federal Liberal/Nationals Opposition's call for flights to and from Indonesia to be banned. Travellers may be nervous about the possibility of this occurring and being stranded.

I get the impression that the Federal government has yet to appreciate the damage FMD as it's abbreviated to could do to Oz's 'clean and green' reputation, though true that banning flights would be a big step. We did however do it from mainland China in February 2020 re the latest coronavirus.

Nope. Their FB page is full of rants of very current multiple future cancellations and not just Adelaide. Just today. To make it worse, Jetstar booking wants me to accept the changes but offered no alternative flight. I don't think it's even legal to sell a one way ticket into Indonesia.

It's the flights back from DPS they've cut. Ours was a 11am departure. That's gone. On FB they have cut flights as far out as September but they didn't state from which state.

Indeed I was, and was confused by Pushka's response. Didn't seem to relate to what I was suggesting.

It was this bit - I wasn't just referring to Adelaide based flights but FB in last couple of days shows passengers whose flights have been cancelled across the board and well into the future. From every state and also Bali which is one of jetstar's main international route. So I don't see why there was the need to put things into context by referring simply to Adelaide.

We were needlessly at cross-purposes. I hadn't looked up FB (not a source to which I typically refer) but was merely referring to you as 'Adelaide-based' because that's from where you emanate. All solved now, so next time I'll omit the geographical descriptor re you.

Understand. So that's why I followed up with some clips of the FB posts made today.

B788 VH-VKA is on its fourth consecutive late flight.

On Wednesday 27 July, it operated flagship JQ1, the 1550 hours MEL - HNL that was not airborne until 2047, arriving same day at 1029 hours, 269 minutes tardy. JQ2 then returned, arriving MEL on Thursday 28 at 1919 hours, 224 minutes late. The next flight was yesterday's JQ1035, a possibly altered timetable showing a 1915 hours departure from MEL to DPS. Takeoff was at 2108 with arrival becoming 0021 this morning, 66 behind. Finally, it's currently on JQ1036, an 0030 from DPS that was in the sky at 0153, so arrival this morning should be at 0847 hours, 57 late.

Saturday 30 July also sees JQ37 (1640 hours late afternoon SYD - DPS) expected to depart 140 minutes behind time at 1900 hours.
