Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

It's hard for flights to operate on time when delays carry over from the previous day.

JQ971, the 0140 hours PER - MEL redeye (A320 VH-XNJ) did not take off until a few minutes ago at 0533 AWST so arrival is estimated as 1032 hours, 202 minutes late.

JQ119 from SYD to NAN on Tuesday 2 August had A320 VH-VGP with this 0900 hours flight taking off at 1055 for arrival at 1656 hours, 116 minutes late.

On Wednesday 3, VH-VFT was airborne at 1133 with suggested arrival becoming 1714, 134 late.

This flight is tardy much of the time. Today, it had been formed by JQ2092 from AKL that arrived only three minutes late at 0803, a short time for an international flight (albeit this is a smaller plane) to turn around.

The afternoon 1640 hours JQ37 (SYD up to DPS) is not predicted to depart until 1920 in the early evening,

The management of Linfox-owned AVV benefited from various governments' funding in recent years, and from memory the JQd arrangement to operate into and out continues to be subsidised by the Victorian government, but the airport has recently had to discuss its relative lack of flights into and out of AVV due to media interest.

On Sunday 7 August, however, it's JQd passengers who may be grimacing as JQ605 (A320 VH-VQP, the 0815 hours SYD down to AVV) did not become airborne until 1310 hours so arrival should be at 1422 hours, 272 minutes late. There is a long gap between northbound flights (back to SYD) on Sundays so it appears that JQ606, the 1440 hours ex AVV may be able to depart by around 1500 hours.

B788 VH-VKJ as JQ36, the 2315 hours redeye on Sunday late evening 7 August took off at 0042 on Monday 8 from DPS so MEL arrival should be 0728 hours, 53 minutes late.

B788 VH-VKD arrived in SYD as JQ38 from DPS at 0722 hours, 67 minutes late on Tuesday 9 August.

It is next rostered on JQ11, the 0745 hours SYD-OOL-NRT and is showing a revised initial departure at 0850, but by 0900 this had not occurred.

Tonight’s JQ30 BKK-MEL is incurring a delay of around 9 hours tonight in BKK. inbound JQ29 is on time, arriving 740pm local.

This sounds like one of the crew due to operate the original flight back is unable to make it and one or more of the inbound crew is waiting (sleeping) 10 hours before flying back?

Friday 12 August has A320 VH-VGJ on JQ132, the 0600 hours early morning AKL - OOL not having taken off until 0652 hours. Estimated arrival is 56 minutes tardy at 0829 hours.

Last night’s (today’s) delayed JQ30 has advised of an additional two hour delay, now departing 8am.

The reason was indeed crewing. Pax received an email basically the same as the compensation page on the JQ website… hotel cost paid, $30 per person for meals, and transport to and from the airport.

On Friday 19 August, JQ119 (0900 hours SYD up to NAN) did not take off until 1022 hours, so arrival has only just occurred at 1606 hours local time, 66 minutes tardy. Aircraft is A320 VH-VGA. This flight was 44 late arriving on the previous day it operated, 15 August.

JQ223 (1440 hours afternoon from SYD to ZQN) has been cancelled.

Sunday 21 August finds JQ795, the 1310 hours MCY-MEL (A320 VH-VFH) taking off exactly four hours later. Arrival should be at 1943, 243 minutes late.

Showing what a lottery domestic flying can be, JQ797 is the 1550 hours on the same route airborne at 1702 with A321 VH-VWT. It should arrive at 1929, 69 late but notably ahead of the much earlier scheduled JQ795.

A fair amount of rain (and around 1530 this arvo, small pea-sized hail in a few suburbs) in MEL probably isn't assisting JQ's timekeeping.

On Monday 22 August, JQ35 (B788 VH-VKE, the 1745 hours MEL-DPS) was airborne at 1858 with suggested arrival becoming 2237 hours, 52 minutes tardy.

JQ943 from CNS to MEL should arrive at 2006 hours, 41 late with A320 VH-VGY.

JQ527 (1815 hours SYD down to MEL) was in the sky at 1931 hours with VH-XSJ.

B788 VH-VKB may have been undergoing maintenance in Singapore as JQ8, the Tuesday 23 August 2125 hours mid evening redeye to MEL appears to have been its first flight for a while. This took off at 0001 hours on Wednesday 24 so arrival should be at 0901 hours, 136 minutes tardy.

On Sunday 28 August 2022, JQ11, the early morning 0745 hours SYD-OOL-NRT was expected to depart at 1125 hours from Sydney but is later than that.

MOnday 29 August 2022 unusually finds cancellations for both JQ3, the mid to late afternoon 1630 hours SYD-HNL and the closely following JQ37 (1640 hours to DPS).

Inbound JQ38 from DPS is usually scheduled to arrive at 0615 but is delayed until 1440, 505 minutes late. JQ16, the 0945 hours timetabled arrival from CNS and earlier, KIX, has been cancelled. JQ11 on Sunday 28 from SYD to OOL and NRT (B788 VH-VKI) reached the latter last night at 2313 hours, 268 minutes late. This aircraft may still be at NRT, so JQi's B788 schedules are chaotic.

Further to the last post, 'AFR' has an article re how at least 20 JQi passengers were stranded in Narita airport overnight with no food, water or bedding due to the flight cancellation.

An important message for @AustraliaInJPN . About 25 Australians are trapped in Narita Airport due to cancelled Jetstar flight JQ0012. Due to Covid restrictions we’re not allowed to leave the airport or enter hotels. We have no food, water or bedding. We’d appreciate assistance.

JQ35/36 was cancelled on Saturday (27th), not sure if JQ have issues crewing at the moment, the flight was fully booked.

Some differences on what was offered to pax
Passengers always responsible for visa etc
Airline cannot change a countries visa - entry requirements.

Jetstar told news.com.au travellers were offered accomodation and food vouchers and confirmed those transiting through were unable to leave the airport.

JQ27, the 1430 hours Wednesday 31 August 2022 SYD-HKT has been cancelled.

Earlier, A320 VH-VGA on JQ205 (0900 hours morning SYD-AKL) was in the sky at 1019 hours, arriving at 1501 hours, 56 minutes behind schedule. It was recently similarly this late.

JQ37, the 1640 hours SYD-DPS should depart at 2000 hours mid evening, 200 minutes tardy.
