On Wednesday 7 September, JQ27 (1100 hours MEL-SYD, B788 VH-VKF) took off at 1605 hours with arrival to be shortly at 1710 hours, 280 minutes late. The continuation (scheduled as 1430 hours to HKT) may be in the sky at about 1900 if all goes well.

This B788 had arrived in Melbourne last night bang on midnight, 230 minutes late as JQ44 from DPS, so did it turn into a pumpkin? At least it's consistently late with the previous nine flights either cancelled (two) or badly delayed (seven).

Just another example of the troubles JQi is experiencing with its B788s.

JQ35 on 7 September, the scheduled 1745 hours MEL-DPS with newbie A321 VH-OFE took off at 1958. Arrival is estimated as 2335, 110 minutes tardy. So not just the B788s that are unpunctual.

The 1210 hours lunchtime JQ7 (the 'dajop' flight) took off at 1707 with B788 VH-VKI, so arrival is forecast for 2235, 275 minutes late.

What may be an extra, JQ7128 from DPS down to ADL, a 1455 hours, took off at 1606 with low capacity A320 VH-VFD. Likley arrival at 2214 tonight would be 59 minutes late.

JQ27 from SYD is being operated with a different aircraft: VH-VKE. This allowed it to be airborne at 1746 hours with HKT arrival estimated as 2339 hours, 174 minutes late.

VH-VKF arrived in SYD at 1714 and became JQ37, the 1640 hours SYD-DPS in the sky at 1922 for forecast arrival of 2326, 141 late. I assume no one was in the end booked on JQ27 all the way from MEL to HKT, with these passengers (if any) being placed on an earlier flight to Sydney.

On Thursday 8 September, JQ38 from DPS to SYD should arrive at 0850 hours, 155 minutes late with B788 VH-VKF.

A321 VH-OFE on JQ36 from DPS but to MEL is arriving at a suggested 0841 hours, 126 late.

JQ952, the 0600 hours first of the morning from SYD to CNS has A321 VH-VWX. At 0750, it was about to take off so it will be at least 90 minute slate arriving. It was in SYD from 2214 hours last night, so a late arrival wasn't the problem. This morning delay will mean the aircraft runs late all day, unless its roster has a sizeable break.

JQ2 for 11/9 already delayed 2.5 hours as the inbound is late. At least we avoid the early start tomorrow.

JQ1033 may be an 'extra' due to so many cancellations in recent days due to up to six of the 11 BH788s being inoperable.

On Sunday 11 September 2022, this flight (the 0800 hours) was airborne at 1005 hours with 'domestic' A320 VH-VGT. Arrival is predicted for 1407, 107 minutes behind the schedule.

One doubts this is something you don't already know, but JQ1 ex MEL for HNL on Sunday 11 September (the 1550 hours mid afternoon) is further delayed, to an expected 1930 hours this evening in pushback - 220 minutes behind schedule.

Lately, these delays often become even worse.

Earlier on Sunday, JQ43 (0910 hours MEL up to DPS, B788 VH-VKG) took off at 1235. Predicted arrival at 1609 hours will be 174 minutes behind schedule.

We're tracking the inbound. The official advice is currently 2.5 hours but we can see it will be more.

JQ35 on Sunday 11 September is a SYD-MEL-DPS flight due out of SYD at 1400 hours, but delayed until '1700' although the latter time has passed.

Additionally, there's also JQ37 SYD-DPS (B788 VH-VKE) that was off blocks at about 1709, and JQ1035 (VKF) that departed a few minutes ahead of 'the 37', also bound for DPS.

This must be some sort of record for Bali-bound departures from Sydney during a 60 minute period.

Too many for an addled brain, but at least they may be clearing the many heavily delayed patrons.

I can see 8/11 787s are now operational. Should only be one down essentially as the other two should have already been built into the schedule as pre planned/long term engineering.

Only three dead at the moment
VKA-stuck in SIN for last 3 weeks (not planned!)
VKB- engineering check Melbourne (scheduled)
VKI- lightning damage (not planned however I assume has been long term schedule adjusted)

However they run a pretty full on schedule with the wide body fleet, one down still causes a whole range of schedule problems.

Perhaps an idea is to offload the Cairns to Japan stuff to JQ Japan, they have Neo’s also. Pulling the widebodies away from Cairns frees up a whole lot of time.

On Sunday 11 September, the JQi hijinks on the DPS routes continue.

At 1834 hours in the early evening, JQ35 (1400 hours SYD-MEL-DPS) running hours late landed in Melbourne - B788 VH-VKF.

Almost immediately, A321 VH-OFE as JQ35 (1745 hours MEL-DPS) was in the sky, with arrival suggested as 2207, 22 minutes late.

I was booked on JQ7 to Singapore next month, but I've shifted this booking to next May, as I couldn't handle the possibility of cancellation or major delay as I'm flying on to Europe the next day.

So I've now booked a UA award SYD-DRW-SIN-CGK flying VA/SQ a day earlier which hopefully will have a much better chance of happening close to schedule, with long layovers in DRW and SIN.
