Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

The last RPT to arrive in SYD was JQ610 which also had curfew anxiety but managed to arrive in time for...the Federal member for Grayndler to sleep peacefully.

Without wishing to go 'off topic' for more than a minute, it may well be true that the aforementioned Federal Member (whose name starts with an 'A') may prefer the 'orange (cancer)' as a colour to 'green' at present.

The Monday 20 June JQ473 (0620 hours NTL - MEL) was airborne at 0702 and should arrive at about 0843 instead of the timetabled 0800 hours with A320 VH-VFL.

JQ503 (0700 SYD - MEL, VH-VQZ, an A320) took off at 0803 and hence will not arrive in an inclement MEL until approximately 0941 hours, 66 minutes late.

The 0745 hours DRW down to ADL, JQ84, took off at 0818 and should arrive half an hour behind at 1155. Aircraft is A320 VH-VGA.

On the evening of Monday 20 June, JQ495, the 1700 hours OOL - NTL took off at 1749 and should arrive at 1900 hours, 41 minutes late. Aircraft is A320 VH-VFH.

JQ520, the 1805 from MEL north to SYD took off at 1844; arrival of A320 VH-VGJ should be 32 minutes behind time at 2002.

Tuesday 21 June 2016 sees JQ503, the 0700 from SYD down to AVV having taken off at 0743 with arrival of A320 VH-VGI suggested as about 0915 hours, 40 minutes behind the schedule.

On Tuesday 21 June, JQ744, the 1815 hours from LST to MEL (A320 VH-VFQ) took off at 1852 hours for a suggested 35 minute late arrival in MEL at 1955.

JQ522, the Wednesday 22 June 2016 1940 hours MEL up to SYD (A321 VH-VWZ) took off at 2026 and hence should arrive about 33 minutes behind at 2138 this mid evening.

On Thursday 23 June, JQ508 (1015 hours MEL - SYD, VH-VFO, an A320) was airborne at 1101 with arrival suggested as at about 1206, 26 minutes late.

The 1010 hours MEL across to ADL, JQ772 (A320 VH-VQH) took off just slightly after, at 1106, and should be at the terminal gate at about 1143, 43 minutes late.

JQ765 (0955 hours ADL - SYD) took off at 1035 (another A320, VH-VQA) and hence should pull in on blocks at roughly 1253 hours, 38 minutes late.

Explains why Fri 17 Jun JQ11 SYD-OOL leg got cancelled at 0445 this morning, much to my obvious disappointment.
Now sitting in the Domestic Business Lounge awaiting QF860 (despite three earlier JQ flights, the only option I was provided was QF somewhat surprisingly).

Maybe they were already full?

NNW winds at MEL are gusting up to 43 kilometres an hour at 1700 on Thursday 23 June and may be starting to intensify somewhat if conditions elsewhere in the Melbourne metropolitan area elsewhere (rainy and windy) are any guide.

JQ477, the 1420 hours from NTL down to MEL did not take off until 1559 and should arrive at around 1733 hours, 93 minutes late. Aircraft is VH-VFL, an A320.

UPDATE: JQ566, the 1815 hours MEL north to BNE took off at 1918 with arrival of VH-JQL (A320) expected at about 2059 hours, 34 minutes behind time.

Friday 24 June 2016 - chilly in Victoria - sees JQ602, the 0600 hours first of the morning from AVV to SYD not having been airborne until 0710, with a consequent delayed arrival in SYD at about 0824, 59 minutes late. Aircraft is A320 VH-JQG.

A significant delay like this affecting the morning's first flight makes it impossible on many weekday flight rosters to 'catch up' or markedly reduce the timekeeping deficit until perhaps lunchtime when some ground stays may be a little longer than turnarounds allow due to it being a less busy time of the day.

On Friday 24 June, JQ413 (1210 hours OOL down to SYD) was in the sky at 1413; arrival should be at 1433, 53 minutes late. Aircraft is VH-VFL, an A320.

On the very chilly evening of Friday 24 June in MEL with the airport temperature almost down to freezing, JQ442, the 1830 hours MEL - OOL was airborne at 1942. Arrival of A320 VH-VGP should be about 61 minutes late at 2136.

Jetstar has one AVV based A320 which runs a tight ship everyday, between 6am-1130pm runs 8 flights with only 30min turns. Asking for trouble if there running late.

Usually hits the arvo AVV-SYD-MCY-SYD-AVV, the Sunshine Coast leg is frequently cancelled.

Sunstar320, thank you: great information: LCcs are supposed to have good aircraft utilisation but as you point out, 'you get what you pay for'.

There is a typo in your first paragraph: you mean 'it is' not 'there' (which you should have spelt 'their'.) We will have to look out for any cancellations of the SYD- MCY - SYD rotation. AFFers who insist on travelling on the 'orange cancer' (few admit to it!) may wish to make a mental note to avoid these flights.

Be Careful about pointing fingers thanks.

Thank you Sunstar320: my misspelling has been corrected.

JQ473, the 0620 from NTL to MEL (A320 VH-VFU) on Saturday 25 June did not take off until 0936 with arrival forecast as 1113 instead of 0800, 193 minutes late.

This sort of result, while an outlier as the statisticians refer to such unusual events, skews the FlightStats statistics when one looks up the timekeeping performance of a particular flight number.

JQ561, the 0950 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE has been cancelled.

The 0825 hours MEL - SYD, JQ504 (A320 VH-JQX) was airborne at 0921 and should arrive at roughly 1024, 34 minutes late.

The recently introduced JQ627 from AVV to HBA does not run daily (on other days the flights go to ADL) but on Saturday 25 June, it took off at 0944 against a pushback time of 0905, with arrival of A320 VH-VGN suggested as 1054, 34 minutes late. It would be interesting to have input on AFF from any travellers on these flights ex AVV that are effectively subsidised by the Victorian Government under some multi-million dollar deal to keep JQ at AVV. One wonders how many travellers would use these flights, but from memory the fares are priced low to try to attract passengers. AVV remains a difficult airport for many who live on the east and south side of Melbourne to get to at times, as the West Gate Freeway and CityLink can be extremely congested.

JQ25 (1210 hours CNS - NRT) took off at 1358 with arrival suggested as 2008, an hour and 28 minutes late. VH-VKG (B788) is the operating aircraft.

JQ29, the 1305 hours Saturday 25 June 2016 MEL - BKK (B788 VH-VKL) has been badly delayed, taking off at 1732. Arrival in the major Thai city is estimated as 2349, four hours and 24 minutes (264 minutes) late. JQ30, the 2140 hours redeye from BKK to MEL is showing as instead departing at 0025 on Sunday 26 June which if 2349 turns out to be the gate arrival time is rather optimistic.

At this stage, it looks like the delayed JQ30 on Sunday may in turn delay JQ7 from MEL to SIN, the 1115 hours Sunday 26 June scheduled departure, but it may be a little early to assert this with confidence as JQ may - I stress 'may' - be able to rustle up a spare aircraft should it have one.

JQ35, the 1745 hours MEL to DPS on Saturday 25 June has also been badly affected by unpunctuality and will instead depart at around 0130 on Sunday 26 for the 'redeye express' to party town DPS. One might expect these flights to be full or very close to it at present as it is Victorian school holidays.

Sunday 26 June sees JQ733, the 0915 hours MEL to LST having taken off at 0958 with likely arrival around 1051, 31 minutes behind the schedule. Aircraft is VH-VGY, an A320.

The 0920 hours MEL - AYQ, JQ664 (A320 VH-VGH), was airborne at 1002 for a suggested 1229, 39 minutes late, arrival.

Friday night was a terrible one for cancellations out of Sydney, most airlines had 6-8 cancellations which were "weather" related, which I assume was wind and SYD being down to one runway?

I, with a truckload of other JQ passengers were bumped to the next day.

Met a number of passengers on the train in the same boat including QF ones.

As for choosing to fly JQ.
When it is ones own coin flying weekly and a return AVV-SYD costs ~$80-130 versus QF ~$300-400 then choice is easy and you just have to put up with the cancelations.

For me this is only 4th cancelation in 3 years.

Once JQ put me across to a QF, once I have used a last minute points purchase (8k) and twice I have just have to suck it up and spend one less night with the family (and go out drinking in SYD).

Kefci2000, thank you for the excellent 'coalface' report.

Did JQ (or QF from what you know) offer to pay for commercial accommodation on Friday night? Or did you just go to your residence, go out drinking as you comment or elsewhere and not even discuss it? Does JQ provide or attempt to provide accommodation in 2016 when there are 'weather related' delays?

I assume that you are referring to meeting others on the Sydney Domestic - Sydney Central airport train.

And on days like last Friday, even spending $300-400 wouldn't have saved you.
