Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

The one saving grace is that it is Saturday night and hence 'arrivees' can mostly sleep it off, but JQ44 from DPS to MEL on Saturday 29 October is arriving at roughly 0226 on Sunday 30 rather than the scheduled 2310 hours, having taken off from DPS at 1820 rather than been 'blocks off' at 1445 as per the timetable. VH-VKD is the B788.

This aircraft seems not to be forming another international flight judging by the gate numbers in use.

Alighting from a plane at 0230 in MEL means about 0300 or later out through the doors, and if one lives in say the middle distance eastern suburbs, collapsing into bed after the delights of a flight in Y at 0400 or later.

I was supposed to fly jq8 from sin to mel yesterday due to jq7 being cancelled. I was rebooked on qf36. There were 25 seats on qf36 for passengers on JQ8. I guessed I was one of the few lucky ones to be rebooked on qf. JQ8 was cancelled due to engineering issue.

Thanks for the update. I wonder how they chose the 25?

On Sunday 30 October, JQ409 (1005 hours OOL - SYD) took off at 1054 (A320 VH-VFO) and is arriving at about 1313 (38 minutes late).

JQ8997 was airborne as presumably an empty ('ferry flight') working from SYD at 1336 to form the 1525 hours MEL - HKT, JQ17 that should depart at 1615 rather than 1525. Yesterday morning (Saturday 29 October) the same B788 (VH-VKK) had operated northbound from MEL to SYD to then operate a return SYD - HKT rotation.

This is an expensive way to operate flights, but perhaps JQ had a defective B788 so it had no other option.

JQ564 (1500 hours from MEL up to BNE, A320 Vh-VFD) was airborne at 1552 with arrival at 1650, 35 minutes behind.

JQ4, the ex-HNL arrival in SYD on Sunday 30 October should be at the terminal at roughly 1711 hours, 81 minutes late. Aircraft is B788 VH-VKE.

A321 VH-VWU is on the 1555 hours MEL - OOL, JQ440, that took off at 1650. Gold Coast arrival should be at 1754, 54 minute late.

Sunday 30 October also sees the 1625 hours JQ756 from HBA up to SYD having been airborne at 1651 - about six to 10 minutes late - but due to a 'hold' near Yass NSW it is shortly arriving at around 1854, 44 minutes late. Aircraft is A320 VH-VGN.

Long distance JQ3, the 1725 from SYD to HNL took off at 1844; arrival of B788 VH-VKL should be at around 0711 instead of 0625, 46 minutes late.

As in the first who checked in (including online check in) or just whoever turned up to the airport counter first?

In further on Sunday 30 October, JQ8995 (B788 VH-VKE) is showing in the description at FR24 as a 'SYD to MEL' flight but from what I can see on FlightAware, the plane is proceeding to SIN, presumably for (scheduled?) maintenance.

Further south, JQ750 (2040 hours LST - SYD) is cutting it rather fine with a 2130 hours takeoff for a forecast 2256 hours touchdown. Aircraft is VH-VGQ, yet another Airbus A320.

JQ570, the 2115 hours from MEL north to BNE took off at 2215 (A320 VH-VQK) so predicted 2322 hours arrival will be 52 minutes behind schedule.

On Monday 31 October, JQ794 from MEL up to MCY (A320 VH-VGN) took off at 1052, 52 minutes after timetabled pushback. Arrival is suggested as 48 minutes behind schedule at 1208.

In further on 31 October, JQ438 (1500 hours from MEL up to OOL) did not take off until 1547. VH-VQU (A320) should arrive half an hour late at 1635.

JQ7 is again noteworthy - and, as usual, for the wrong reason. Today this 1200 MEL - SIN (B788 VH-VKJ) took off at 1405 so arrival is predicted at 1847, 117 minutes late.

On 31/10 JQ756 the late afternoon HBASYD service was not off blocks until 1645 from the scheduled 1625 due to delayed loading of WCHR guests and ground traffic in HBA. The aircraft did not make up time in the air and arrived in SYD 19 minutes behind schedule at 1829. Aircraft was VH-VFN.

Melbourne Cup Day sees JQ700 (0755 hours from HBA up to MEL, A320 VH-VWU) not having taken off until 0843, with arrival likely at 0956, 41 minutes behind time.

JQ774 (0830 hours from MEL across to ADL, A320 VH-VQL) took off at 0930 so it should be at the terminal at 0950, half an hour behind schedule.

JQ794, the Tuesday 1 November 1000 MEL to MCY (A320 VH-VQG) was airborne at 1049. Arrival will be delayed at an expected 1204, 44 minutes tardy.

1 November 2016 also has JQ514 (1520 hours MEL - SYD, A321 VH-VWT) taking off at 1604; arrival should be 31 late at 1716 this afternoon.

Later, JQ527, the 2050 hours mid evening from SYd down to MEL has been delayed until a projected 2130 hours in departing.

UPDATE: A321 VH-VWZ on JQ527 is later than forecast, having taken off at 2201 for a forecast arrival 62 minutes behind schedule at 2327 hours.

JQ525, the 2145 hours southbound took off at 2222 with a 32 minute delayed, 2357 hours arrival in MEL suggested for A321 VH-VWT.

The 1425 hours mid afternoon DPS - MEL, JQ44, was airborne at exactly 1600 hours with gate arrival in the southern capital suggested as 2355 hours, an hour behind schedule for B788 VH-VKA.

On Wednesday 2 November, JQ520, the 1845 hours MEL to SYD took off at 1941. Arrival of A321 VH-VWX should be at 2055, 45 minutes late.

Thursday 3 November sees JQ473 (VH-VGI, an A320) having had a bad start to the morning with its 0605 hours early morning departure having become airborne at 0745. Arrival in MEL should be at 0914 instead of 0745 hours, 89 minutes late.

JQ430 from MEL to OOL, the 0640, did not take off until 0734: arrival of A321 VH-VWU should be at approximately 0924, 39 minutes tardy.

JQ's less than impressive timekeeping on the busy SYD - MEL route continues with a Thursday 3 November 2016 flight, JQ521 - the 1725 hours southbound, A321 VH-VWX - having become airborne at 1821. Arrival is projected as 33 minutes late at 1933.

This is far too common and a long way from the clockwork or close to it punctuality that any of us who travel widely largely experience on high speed rail routes overseas of a similar length.

JQ605, the 0755 hours from SYD down to AVV (A320 VH-VFQ) is only taxiing at 0924 so will be seriously late into this airport where the flights are subsidised by the socialist Victorian government, since JQ could not make a go of them on its own. Arrioval should be at around 1100, 90 minutes late.

In turn, JQ630, the 1010 from AVV to OOL will be delayed, probably until about 1130 in its departure.

Another AVV flight, JQ632 (0905 hours across to ADL, A320 VH-VQH) took off at 0942. Arrival was 20 minutes late at 1015. This flight normally then forms JQ633 back to AVV, arriving at 1210, and then JQ604 from AVV to SYD, so these next two flights may be at least slightly delayed.

These couple of examples show how depending on rotations delays can reverberate around much of the nation.

UPDATE: JQ633 from ADL to AVV was not airborne until 1112, so VH-VQH is unlikely to arrive until about 1250. The 1240 hours (JQ604) AVV - SYD should be about 40 minutes late departing the airfield that plays host to the air show.
