A321 VH-VWN is having a bad start to its Thursday 6 December 2018 morning as JQ810, the early morning 0605 hours SYD - BNE was still waiting on runway 34R for ATC clearance for takeoff as at 0826 hours. It will at least 110 minutes late arriving in BNE.

It had arrived at 0620 hours, 15 minutes late on the redeye JQ671 ex DRW, so another aircraft must have failed.

UPDATE: VH-VWN took off at 0830 hours.

Also on 6 December, JQ953 (0700 hours CNS - SYD with A320 VH-VGJ) did not become airborne until 0923, so arrival is suggested as 1248 hours, 113 late.

Later on 6 December, B788 VH-VKD took off at 1751 on JQ1, the 1635 hours to HNL ex MEL, so will be at least half an hour late.

Friday 7 December 2018 sees JQ502, the 0720 hours MEL - SYD (A320 VH-VFD) not having taken off until 0810 hours, so estimated arrival is 0915, half an hour late.

In the opposite direction, JQ501, first of the morning at a scheduled 0600 hours from SYD is arriving in MEL at 0827 hours, 52 late with A320 VH-JQG.

Later on Friday 7 December, A321 VH-VWW took off from MEL at 1039 on JQ432 (1000 MEL - OOL) and is estimated to arrive half an hour late at 1135.

JQ794, the 0950 hours MEL - MCY took off at 1034. With A320 VH-VQA, it should arrive at 1140, half an hour behind.

JQ720 (A321 VH-VWZ, the 1315 hours HBA up to SYD that took off at 1401 hours) is arriving at a claimed 1542, 42 minutes tardy.

The 0930 hours down to ADL ex BNE, JQ453 is worse with this 0930 hours scheduled flight taking off at 1232. A320 VH-VQM should arrive at 1522 hours mid afternoon, 167 minutes late.

JQ793 (1000 hours MCY - MEL that was in the sky at 1152) has VH-VFT with arrival suggested as 1501, 96 late. JQ795 on the same route has VH-VQA and should arrive at 1556, 51 late.

Also on Friday 7 December 2018, JQ793, the early morning timetabled 0715 hours from MCY down to SYD is a shocker. A320 VH-JQG took off at 1259 so the predicted 1518 hours arrival will be 328 minutes late.

JQ437 (1145 hours late morning OOL down to MEL, A321 VH-VWW) took off at 1257 with arrival suggested at 1600 hours, 55 late. However at 1544 the aircraft remained in a hold northeast of Bendigo so that predicted arrival may underestimate the delay. Two posts above, this aircraft was only about half an hour late so this is an example of hos delays can compound during the day.

Whether this occurs can be roster (and weather) specific as some rotations earlier in the week and on Saturdays have a relatively lengthy break between flights in the middle of the day when demand is lower.

Continuing with 7 December 2018, JQ796 (VH-VFD), the 1545 hours northbound MEL - MCY took off at 1718. Anticipated arrival is 1820 hours, 75 late.

The 1620 hours SYD - SGN (JQ61) has B788 VH-VKK but had yet to depart by 1728, so will be at least 50 minutes late into the Vietnamese major city.

JQ710, the 1650 hours late afternoon HBA - MEL that was airborne at 1728 with A321 VH-VWN looks to be arriving at 1844, 34 late while JQ744, the 1535 hours ex LST that took off at 1750 (VH-VFT) should arrive at 1850, 130 late.

While I haven't yet seen a map of the route it took, JQ61, the Friday 7 December 1620 hours SYD - SGN (VH-VKK), noted above as delayed looks to have departed but returned to SYD - that is, diverted.

Those preparing to depart hotels in a few hours for JQ62 (2235 hours redeye SGN down to SYD) may need the patience of Job. Time will tell.
