The dates with this second sale are much better for me (closer).

I would be annoyed however if I purchased tix in the first sale to then have JQ release new seats several months closer to travel - but maybe that is just me.

Edit: Have JQ fees gone up? Eg. 20Kg now $33 plus $60 'Booking and processing fee' ?????

Managed to price SYD-HNL for two $1078 rtn in early Nov...not bad at $500pp rtn :)

Wife and I picked up one of these 2 for 1 fares SYD - HNL as well

Then booked a cheap Delta return flight to SFO for $331

SYD-SFO return with a stopover in Hawaii for $870 isn’t too bad in the current AU -> US ‘discount’ climate :D

Re: Singpaore Sale

Surprisingly the return flight SIN-MEL is available for even cheaper at $199.30.

Just after I booked Flights SIN --> Seam Reap and then back from Phnom Penh for 4 of us a few weeks ago. I knew I should have waited! Still, even at previous sale price only about $100 a sector.

SIN-MEL is nearly always cheaper than MEL-SIN. The base fare is the same, but the taxes are different.

It was surprising in that they publicised the more expensive leg of the return trip. Often budget airlines seem publicise the cheaper leg. While not mentioning that the price of the more expensive leg.

Not when the cheaper leg requires an origination point outside the country its being advertised in.

Looking at the fare breakdown, one of the key differences is the $47 Australian departure tax! Ouch!

Well, here's our first glimpse at a Starclass sale under the enhanced fee structure:Jetstar's Business Class Sale! [EDIT: Should have guessed futuaris would get in before me!]

Here's a a sample: MEL-BKK that was available earlier this year for $499 is now $599 without SC/points/lounge access and $1199(!) for the same product. That's more expensive than full Starclass fares ($749) that used to feature on that route.

Who said Jetstar wasn't going to use this as an excuse to raise their fares?

The Business fares to Japan aren't too bad if you can put up with no lounge access (if you have no status) and no QFF credit. (Probably good for don't-care-about-FF bargain flying types.)

The remainder of the Business fares are what we are all used to as a sale price under the old fare regime, except that they would've been the equivalent of a now Business Max fare. Some are even higher, e.g. MEL/SIN (although to be fair, the $499 price was close to when they first launched the route, i.e. "inaugural flight halo effect").

Oddly enough, I would've expected that the Business Max fares at non-sale would've been a lot more expensive than a mere $1200-ish.

I'm also surprised they didn't offer Business Max on sale (i.e. like they did earlier in the year, except it was only to Japan). I guess we can expect Business Max sales to be quite rare, but Business sales to be more-ish frequent.

I sent some feedback back to JQ after i saw the business max pricing, for 1200 each way you could easily use the mainstream players or move to the Asian carriers SQ/CX etc

Good call. The pricing is going to cause some loss to the competition. EK for one has some outstanding sale fares to KUL, and with MH joining OW there will be even more option. For a non-Max fare without lounge access, the hard product may be somewhat comparable (though Jetstar probably has a slight edge).

I actually think the SC/points issue would be less objectionable if when they made the changes they reclassified Starclass as premium economy, and made the corresponding reduction of benefits. They didn't call it 'Business' in the first place for the very reason that it's not a business-level product, it's not even a debundled business product.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted! :)

In some way they should be sensitive to their market, which is here, and that is their "Business" class is not really that - both QF and VA blow them out of the water, plus every other airline that operates a J out of this country which competes on similar routings. (Well, except for some exceptions, like old MH J, possibly GA J...)

In another way, it is sad to say (perhaps!) that JQ "Business" is comparable if not better than some other J in the world. Sometimes it can even be comparable to USA domestic F, but that is a stretch (since I will be shot down to pieces when the collegiate rebut this point by stating that USA domestic F earns plenty of FF points and status). Also, I guess part of JQ's overall strategy is really targeting people who will buy premium or a "good fare" without really caring about the FF implications. They just want a nice seat, a decent (stretch!) meal and less people (with less potential for whining babies and bogan beer guzzlers).

It's only us on AFF who can't perceive that a flight is worth taking unless it earns some sort of FF credit. Most of us here would look at these fares differently if we lacked this kind of "prejudice". It doesn't mean I view these as a good deal, but I am an AFFer for a reason... ;)

I remember getting some market research questionnaire where you had to select which option of three kinds of fares you would take. I always tried to prioritise the option that gives points and status credits over those that did not, and there were some pretty horrible choices in that. Mind you, that prioritisation is not the thoughts of a normal person.

It might be worth noting that the newspaper advertisements carried the rider that Business Max was not on Sale, only the Business fares.
