JQ travel to earn FF points - for a Fee [even in 'Business']

OTOH $200 for the *Class Max Bundles sounds OK if you just started flying for the first time today ... but making people pay extra for something that was already a benefit pre-17 May 2011 ..... well that's a huge downgrade there. The downgrade in benefit is as sad as the removal of ATA and how QF spun it as an enhancement, when it really was the opposite.

It depends on what the total cost ends up being. If the Business + Max is the same as StarClass is now, then nothing has been lost.....except people who don't care about SC's might just take up the cheaper business seats

(BTW If the snippet of screen I saw is accurate, the economy packs (Plus and Max), come with a in-flight voucher on international flights as well)

Sorry!

Thanks for your search.

Our website is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. We will be back online from 6.00am (AEST), 17th May.

Thanks for choosing Jetstar! We look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

I just did a dummy SYD-PER for next week (Tue 24th) = $179, one way. Add 15kg baggage $15, takes it to $194 with no points or sc's.

QF Points + SC's were available when bundled

Starter Fare (vanilla) - not eligible for points.
Starter Fare Bundle with 'PLUS Bundle'- $40 extra Discount Y earn ($219/$239 with 15kg)
Starter Fare Bundle with 'MAX Bundle' - $370 extra Full Y Earn ($549/$564 with 15kg)

Cheapest Red eDeal on QF is $257 with points+sc's, baggage (larger allowance than JQ), bigger window for check-in (which is priceless, l know from experience!), meal and l think that QF are a little bit more lenient on the 30minute cut-off period, which could be the difference of purchasing a new ticket if running late on JQ....

If you click on the JQ fare on the QF website, you now get re-directed to the JQ website where you can add the bundles.

Lounge Access

Gold Coast and Auckland Lounge (domestic flights only) access can be added for a fee. Qantas Club members and Business Max passengers may access Qantas Club, Gold Coast and partner lounges

Am I reading this correctly, we can now enter the Gold Coast lounge without having a fight with the lady on the front desk?

Just priced a Jetstar fare HBA-SYD return, the Jetstar Starter on the return leg is now the same price as a Jetsaver fare previously i.e. with baggage previously is now the same price as without baggage. I know because I had been following this particular route/date/time for precisely this reason and was glad when the QF sale last week made it worthwhile to buy QF instead of JQ.

I guess it's possible that the base fare was always going to increase, but it only did it one way..

It will take a while to digest but a lot of people are not going to be impressed. Unless things change I was partly right with my earlier assumption.

e.g

BNE-SYD $59 one-way + $45 for Starter Plus Bundle
BNE-SYD $69 one-way + $35 for Starter Plus Bundle
BNE-SYD $79 one-way + $25 for Starter Plus Bundle

Not sure what happens if the base airfare is higher

and

MEL-SIN $329 one-way + $125 for Starter Plus Bundle
MEL-SIN $349 one-way + $105 for Starter Plus Bundle
MEL-SIN $369 one-way + $85 for Starter Plus Bundle
MEL-SIN $462 one-way + $55 for Starter Plus Bundle
MEL-SIN $542 one-way + $25 for Starter Plus Bundle
MEL-SIN $699 one-way business + $200 for Business max bundle

By the way luggage is an extra add-on.

Personally I think it is a positive change and at least they have not devalued the QFF program too much by allowing earning on the give away airfares. Shame about *class but it wasn't going to last forever being much better value than any QF airfare.

For the not so frequent flyer it looks like a great way to get a cheap flexible ticket. Not so much a cheap way to earn status, as I think the extra $ isn't worth status alone, but still a good development for flyers I would say.

The Lounge information page on the Jetstar website still excludes JQ lounge access unless one is on a Business Max ticket.

So pretty much exactly the same as before - unless the third party lounge thing is different. I think previously you would have to fly QF code to get into a 3rd party lounge - unless it was arranged specially with Jetstar.

Entry to the Gold Coast Lounge and Akarana Lounge

1.4.
Entry is only available:
1.4.2. For the Gold Coast Lounge or Akarana Lounge, two hours prior to your scheduled flight departure for other domestic passengers.
1.9. Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Chairmans Lounge members may present a current membership card as a valid form of Gold Coast Lounge or Akarana Lounge entry pass for themselves and two guests travelling on a qualifying flight. Bronze, Silver and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer members and Qantas Club members travelling in economy must purchase entry.

proskyneo - But that whole page still references Jetsaver and Jetflex fares - I don't recognise them anymore

LOL.
They are probably still uploading the site. I just tried to 'Packaged Holidays" and got a error 404 pop up.

However...
1.2. If you are a StarClass or Business Max Bundle passenger travelling on a qualifying flight you may enter the Gold Coast Lounge free of charge on presentation of your StarClass or Business Max Bundle boarding pass. If you are travelling economy on an outbound flight from the Gold Coast Airport, you will need to purchase access or present a valid Gold Coast Lounge Membership Card if you wish to enter the Gold Coast Lounge.

So I’ve just woken up and had my play with the two areas I saved last night.

Previously, I could fly OOL-ZQN for $279 + $20 for 20kg luggage. While the luggage cost had now dropped by $5, the extra $50 to earn 20SC seems very unlikely for me, brining the total fare to $344 (while Virgin Australia is still $279 (With Velocity Gold giving me a generous free luggage allowance).

On the Jetstar Express between SYD and MEL, prices for a cheap ticket have remained the same at $59 and an additional $25 for points and SC doesn’t seem too much. Unfortunately, they have been playing funny buggers with Business pricing. The fare last night was $329 for StarClass, while it is now $369 plus an additional $80 to earn SC. It’s an $80 increase, but really it’s actually a $120 increase.

Interestingly, if I purchase the whole lot through Qantas, it still lists the JQ35 fares as Jetsaver (non-earning) and Jetflex despite a little tiny price jump on the lower fare. They must think people are stupid.

My concern is I have Starclass fares booked MEL-SIN return for June. Do they earn or not is the question? When I purchased the fares they did but do they now?

So basically starter fares seem to be relatively unaffected but, as expected, comparable StarClass fares have increased with the appearance of debundling.

Did you read any of this thread before posting?

Quite a few posters have confirmed that existing bookings stay the same.

Here is the link to the JQ page about booking changes: Booking changes | Jetstar
