JQ travel to earn FF points - for a Fee [even in 'Business']

Lets put it another way.
Starclass fares are two 'classes' D and J, where D is the *class promo rate and J is full rate now. When it changes tomorrow you'll still be able to purchase either one, but BOTH fare classes will have the option of adding the max bundle.
There won't be any fare classes where you get everything included, it will ALL be add-ons, no matter what fare class it is..

Ok that makes more sense. Thanks for that! :) So now I'm wondering how ODU's will work? I guess they will just put you to D and so no bells and whistles...?

Maybe for something different lets see what 'good' things eventuate, as nothing will please everyone. :p

No doubt - the question is, does it benefit any customer base at all, or is it simply a nice way to spin an across-the-board fare increase? It's been done before (see Spirit Air).

Will be interesting to see the final implementation - in theory, if it's a true debundling then you would be looking at the existing flex/points earning fares being reduced by something approximating the cost of the 'plus' or 'max' bundles respectively or vice versa with the saver/promo fares. But I fear it would be unlikely to see unbundled StarClass promo fares starting at $299.

You say that as if you have access to (and can see) things we don’t :p

I have some information, and on the screenshots i see, it has those price differences. Unless they just made up random pricing in the test enviroment, those are the prices.

There will be three types of upgrades and have seen the prices. :p

Haha i wonder if JQ's getting angry at me posting this info?!

now your QF number will actually mean somethig on Jet* for more flight options, is there going to be more options for WP's at checkin - ie using the 1st class QF check in for INT etc?

Base fares are not going up. This was stipulated in a company wide email to all staff and was the first point in the email.
Starter fare = JSaver Light
Starter fare + 20kg luggage = JSaver Fare
(as in costs)

If that's the case across the board, then there is the potential for some very interesting pricing to come from JQ. Thanks for the updates. :)

Nope, as QF don't use JQ's system and too many issues and cross-handling with companines such as menzies, QF, aerocare etc etc.. Only in QF dom lounges as per current procedures.

Codeshare bookings and GDS created bookings do not have the bundles.

Extrapolating from this then Business Max= Non promo *class Fare?

Yes, and *Class promo is comparable to Business Starter but without the points.

Although as previously mentioned all *class promo fares already purchased will still earn J points and SC's.

I have a feeling for the plus bundle, it will be around $40 extra on the starter fare for domestic and $80 for international.
Which would include the QFF points and SC's, free seat selection, and the waiving of the change fee (not incl fare diff.)

I'm also thinking that the Business Max Bundle will be around $200 extra. ;)
I get the impression that the bundle airfares are going to be static and not move with sales.

e.g Business fare MEL-SIN = $499 and Business Max Bundle = $699 so when there is a sale on the business fare MEL-SIN = $199 and Business Max Bundle = $699 not $399.

No different to pricing for QF airfares where only red e-deal airfares lower than S class are discounted during sales.

I'm still wondering if the lounge access bit regarding status is true. As a WP will I get lounge access too now (non-QP locations).

Also will vanilla business be for promo starclass fare only, or also cover the 'D' bucket. ie. Currently when there is not a sale/promo on, starclass has two prices, similar to QF. The cheaper is available until inventory dries up.

I was looking at booking just such a flight for July. Should I be booking tonight (or at least paying by bank transfer and hold out) at fear my full fare Star Class (D) fare will no longer have points tomorrow? If it did that's pretty much a deal breaker, in fact atm it was the only reason I was considering JQ/3K.

I've been following this on and off for most of the day.

Am I the only one that finds it extremeley confusing, for both the pax, crew and airline?

Some Pax get food, some don't, some get lounge access, some don't, some get point, some don't. Yet they are all in the same seats?

Unless they have a way to clearly explain this, the end customer will get very confused.

I guess food is no different to special meals. The lounge access issue, boarding passes will have LNGE printed on them to display access w/ lack of QFF card. Not sure how the hell the points thing will work if it's the same bucket.

I still am really hoping that ala DJ, AA etc. PS/SG/WP get free 20kg baggage or something to that effect.

Think I'll just book this star class fare tonight, the refund penalty is only as much as a cheapo ADL-MEL flight on JQ ;)

Just thumbed around a bit, finally paid for the booking. Went the check itinerary and immediately the booking engine has gone down for maintenance. Phew, that was close.

This move needs to be introduced very carefully. If it is too expensive to get SCs then MRs will not be worth while.

I have an MR at the end of the month with a few days in BKK. It was purchased when there was a *Class sale. These are great fares but there are others.

I guess we'll see in the morning.

Nothing has been announced, though I think the changes will be all without food and beverage options and I'm sure the crew will have a manifest that tells them who gets what. Not that complicated really.

I agree from a frequent flyer perspective but to the ordinary John/Jane out there who may want to get to X destination in *Class and for cheap, then they probably won't care a great deal about SC or points.

OTOH $200 for the *Class Max Bundles sounds OK if you just started flying for the first time today ... but making people pay extra for something that was already a benefit pre-17 May 2011 ..... well that's a huge downgrade there. The downgrade in benefit is as sad as the removal of ATA and how QF spun it as an enhancement, when it really was the opposite.
