Latitude 28 Degrees $8 per month starting September 2024

But fundamentally, it’s your money - no different to a DC. So not really good for using checking into an Hotel or picking up a rental card.

Personally, I’d rather pay with CC and have the added protection to dispute incorrect charges before my money is taken.

You can always dispute - that's not a credit card thing, that's a payment company thing (ie. visa, mastercard, amex, etc).

I'm another one who has held the card for 10+ years. For me it sits in the bottom drawer and is only used if I'm overseas or when I buy something I'm confident will go on sale in the next 12 months. On recent trips I've found it easier just to use my Up debit card so the 28 degrees card is really only used for major purchases.

I'm going to hold on until it is 100% confirmed that the legacy price protection insurance is gone. I would have received thousands back from that insurance over the life of my account so I'm willing to absorb the $8 per month if I still have my price protection insurance.

Yes, but at least with a CC there’s a good chance a dispute is resolved before you pay the statement amount (up to 55 days). With a DC, the money has gone - immediately!

Another long term holder and cancelled.

Couldn't put all foreign purchases through it anyway (need to put car hire on Amex for insurance etc.) and the difference between zero foreign currency and the 3 to 3.5% but earning points, less all the hassle with dealing with Latitude means that the benefit would be marginal at best. Has saved dollars in the past, but the writing is clearly on the wall (and with the cyber breach, confidence is low and risk has to be considered).
What Amex still provides car hire insurance? My Amex Gold used to but they canned it nearly a decade ago now.

Not sure about Australia but the UK AMEX Platinum does. No need to put any spend on the card for to be active.

I'm not sure why there's discussion on here that the price/shopper's protection is gone, the email explicitly says "All other existing card features will remain the same."

This has been confirmed with Hallmark Insurance that manages shopper's protection for Latitude by people on various forums, response is below.

Thank you for your email.

Please be advised, that your Shopper’s protection insurance is not affected by the new complimentary insurance offered by Latitude/AIG.

So, to summarise, just about the only option is the Bankwest Platinum Zero that meets these criteria:
- no annual fee
- no minimum spend requirement
- must be a credit card not debit card
- no foreign transaction fees
- official MC or Visa exchange rates

Is this correct? Thanks.

I use bankwest one but another option is Bendigo Ready - with same features - it seems to still have some insurances attached (not sure for how long) - Mastercard

Just wondering whether anybody has asked 28 Degress if the $8/month fee is per account or per card? With 4 supplementary cards that could make things really disappointing. The path of never cough/u/me is always best.

I looked at the website and it appears you can only add a supplementary card NOT close/cancel a supplementary - of course I may be wrong...

Hoping to save time on hold. Call last Wednesday late afternoon turned into evening after a little more than 2 hours on hold to notify them of overseas travel impending.

Well, I know some have reservations about Superannuation but Bendigo Bank seems a little extreme...

Do you see what I mean?

Have pondered that question myself and I guess we’ll find out soon enough. It would be a little devious if the fee was per card, but then nothing surprises me these days.

Mine is still pending - did it 4 days ago - my wifes happened instantly - the account online has an issue - I wonder if they cant cope with all the cancellations

Latitude Boss: "Everyone's leaving, how do we stop them?!"
Latitude IT: "Lock the door!"

I had the same problem, but when I used the similar function on the web site, the cancellation went through smoothly.

Thankyou for this, submitted a closure request via the web with "September monthly fee introduction" as my reason :D

Have tried FOUR times to cancel card through web site. Requested email confirming.

Cards NOT cancelled and no emails recieved.

Login again and does not say card cancelled and just says cancel car option is still showing.

coughs.

Going to have send them a legal letter refusing to accept changes to fees.

Hi Oatek,

We recently emailed you regarding changes to your Latitude 28 Degrees Global Platinum Mastercard credit card.

Whilst the content of the email was correct, the sender information showed 'CreditLine', instead of 'Latitude 28 Degrees Global Platinum Mastercard'. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.

Further information can be found on our website FAQs here latitudefinancial.com.au/28degreeschanges.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,

The Latitude Team

Thanks for checking this. I think it’s worth keeping at $8 per month if the insurance is here to stay.
