Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

I'm still a long way from LTG

and creeping towards it as I maintain VA Plat alongside my QF Gold. Should get there in 4.5 years :o

I'm moving slightly faster but I'd still say creeping, compared to previous years at least. Perhaps we'll get there around the same time ;)

I'm kinda glad I didn't join AFF or FT earlier (and be tempted to split my FF earn) than I did. I'm a long way behind you in number of flights and miles flown ... but I'm sitting on a total of > 15,000 SC.

Obtaining LTG was the plan for mrsdrron. She is 65% there and under the old earning system she would have made it by 2017.
The new partner earning though means it will be pushed out until at least 2020 and so not going to be of much value as our travel will be winding down.
Considering switching her earning over to AA because of the better earn and burn on OW partners.

One interesting occurrence.Last week she took a JQ flight MCY-SYD.It does not count as an eligible flight nor the SCs for WP1.
But the SCs for next loyalty bonus did come down by 10.

AFF and FT helped me to increase my SC's :p

Good point. For me: membership hasn't increased SC earn all that much - sure JASA would have come and gone without me knowing but I had the SC in the bank anyway ... It's the point earning that has been supercharged with AFF membership, ATO has been a "river of gold" and I'd be very many millions poorer if I hadn't joined.

Mrscove has many MASAs still booked thru to June to make LTG this year. With the olds she has her hands full so she may have to cancel and that may leave her short of 14,000 SCs. It is family first and the olds are her creators.

I'm sitting in the F Lounge at SYD, about to board QF23 to BKK, when I land, I'll be LTG! Four and half years ago I didn't even know LTG existed, but I'll be there in 11 hours. Would never have got close without AFF... Some crazy cheap RGN F Fares did help, but still lot's and lot's of time eating food I'd rather not eat and watching reruns of Family Guy and Futurama, but all good!

Thanks to everyone for their help, great community here!

Congratulations :)
Hope to get there myself one day thanks to all I've learned here

Cancel a mASA? That's madness! You ought to be banned from here for suggesting such a preposterous proposal! ;)

The strangest irony is that whilst many of us strive to achieve LTG, most of us also hope never to have to use it!

... bit like the dozen or so insurance policies I pay every year.

Not me! Once I achieve, I will stop chasing SCs, start even more serious points chasing, travel almost entirely on classic awards, and cross my fingers that some nice person will guest me into the first lounge!

I plan to get many decades out of mine. I crossed the 14,000 barrier at the age of 46 ... reckon we've got at least 4 decades of usage in us.

I'll probably dropout of the SC rat race around 2018 - this is when we'll start doing LH sectors exclusively on points ... plan to see the inside of F lounges many years after I've lost status rights.

How optimistic to ensure that QF will last 40 years, or that SG will mean something in 40 years

Flying F using points? Otherwise LTG would only give you J lounges. If F, you don't need status

Yes LTG can create quandaries for folks who have endless points to redeem and never travel less than in business class. Then of course Qantas international out of Perth is not possible. I see my old school chum JohnM flies east to pick up QFI and that is something I would not bother doing.
Cutting off Singapore made QFI pretty irrelevant for us.
