Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Just realised I've made the magic 14K mark.
Must have happened a few weeks back when I wasn't looking.
10 yrs to get to LTS & a further 2.5 yrs to get to LTG.

Only really in the last 2 years did I hit it hard and concentrate my SC earn into QF whereas I had been all over the shop with Virgin, United, Thai, Jet* (no bundles).
I had also moved a lot more flying onto OneWorld carriers wherever possible (primarily AA, CX & AY) due to this community.

So after getting the 'status disease' (thanks AFF community) I found it to be a drug I needed more of. This community also helped me maximise my WP benefits and understand 'the value' of status. It has also help me explain the disease to my Mrs who has since seen the benefits bestowed upon her (and now achieves WP outright).

Now that I have LTG, I need to scratch my head on what I'll do ... either maintain WP with QF or move across to AA. I'm finding less use for QFF points and the burn rates (inc 'taxes') seem less attractive vs other programs.

In short, many thanks to this community for their words of wisdom.

A big welcome to the club nonpop

I've stayed with QF post LTG ... mainly due to MASA :D Now I've used the last of them up - I've got 21 months to sort out what next...

Congrats nonpop, a little jealous

Only 3,000 more to go for me. Hopefully get there before LTG is gone or my life

Congrats nonpop!

Well done maintaining loyalty in the face of declining benefits and service standards by QF.

I've around 1800 to go, but each time I have to interact with QF, they make it harder and harder to continue to be loyal. Still, I will push on but over a much longer timescale!

I thought the same thing when I hit LTS with the "oh cough, another 7k to go". But was surprised how quickly they clicked over once I put my mind to it.
I had made a metal note to keep an eye out for the 14k click-over, but missed it in the daily life hustle and bustle.

I must admit QFs change to the earning system didn't help with shaving off SCs for flights I was used to & especially on partner earning.

It is nice to see it in gold.

Man I want to see that on my QF profile!

Instead I have this:
11,000
LIFETIME
STATUS CREDITS

I'm thinking 400-600 SCs in discount Y per year so a bit to go but worth it in the end

Reached Lifetime Gold today with a very pleasant trip to JNB. 14 years to get to LTS and another 3 to get to gold. Not changing to any other program - I tend to only use points for domestic awards (or for international upgrades for the ankle biters), so it works for us. It is nice to have, as so many flights from Canberra are economy only, so it gives us Qantas club access once we lose platinum. We plan to experiment a lot more with other carriers internationally and not worry about any particular loyalty program - doesn't have a lot of value for us as we pay for F. I have to say when you get a good flight with Qantas they are terrific. In fact I always like the staff - it is just the peripheral stuff that has been annoying - we have had a bad year!

Congratulations on reaching the pinnacle, Flying Mermaid.
Years spent shuttling to Canberra is indeed a slow way to get to LTG but hopefully worth it.

Now if only QF would give us a target to aim at and introduce LTP.......................

Congratulations Flying mermaid, after a total of 17 years it must seem like your service reward.
17 years is a very long time, butI have to say I enjoyed it all very much - bit of a flying tragic. I am sure if I had discovered this board earlier, I would have done it much faster! Also travelling with 3 kids made it slower as well.

Of course, no travel prior to September 1998 would have counted towards LTG.

Congratulations ...

Congratulations and may your wandering toward other OW airlines be educational and worthwhile :)

May you continue wandering

That makes me feel better - we did two round the world trips in F prior to joining the program in 1998, so those wouldn't have counted anyway! However I was thinking of a number of trips we did post 1998 where any concept of maximising status credits was a totally foreign idea. Mind you Mr FM is not very cooperative. A couple of times I have learnt things on here and tried to implement them, without telling him the reasoning behind it - I disguise the longer routes with "we will get a nicer lounge/plane", but I usually just get a blank stare and "I am not spending any longer travelling than I have to". :)

Been a member since 1992 and got LTG about 3 years ago. Makes all of those flights worth while now.
