Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Yip, mine's got a slightly shiny Gold back (writing on front (white) side).
Well that sent me off to look at my letter and no not a shine in sight - very ordinary thin white paper on both sides :)

I did get around ( a couple of weeks ago), to claiming back some Qantas Club membership that I have had on hold for some years and they were very friendly and cooperative about refunding.

It appears to me that Qantas is severely letting down its most loyal flyers here. A plain letter and bugger-all else to recognize trillions of faithful miles??? Not good enough!!

I suggest this year they go ALL OUT and come up with something fantastic to recognize these people!! Something awesome!!

*cough* and yes maybe I am about to hit LTG myself this year - sheerly coincidence and does not sway in any manner my view on this topic :)

I knew that watching Ryan Bingham receive his 10,000,000 miles award, in flight and presented by the airline's chief pilot, would set a bad, if imaginary, precedent... :)

Well to be fair to Qantas, life time gold status is probably enough of a reward without any other fanfare! Particularly as it also give you OWS, which could be quite useful in years to come.

I've been thinking about the general observations of the AFF'ers and ABT editorials regarding what could generally be summarised as "What else after achieving QFF LTG?". I'm thinking that (selfishly - guilty) maybe QF could look at capturing that LTG loyalty by offering an effective WP1 status whilst ever a LTG'er maintains a WP status. At the moment, there appears to be no incentive to stop the LTG'ers moving about the Oneworld schemes, especially the BA "Life Time Gold". I got spoiled to that outside T-80 Row 4 (73H) seat selection and am going through ex WP1 withdrawal at having to set the alarm clock to jump in an secure my beloved 4D. Anyway, not a big issue, but worth a thought from QF.

That's not a bad idea at all !! In fact I like it. Combining LTG and earned top status would be pretty sweet. Not sure if the numbers would stack up for QF but they'd certainly look good from my end.

I totally agree! My post was quite tongue-in-cheek. I am actually so happy with Qantas I have invented my own status, as in my profile - that of "LTF", or Life Time Fan :)

I hope Red Roo, now back after enhancement, is reading this and picks up the baton ;).

Agree. It would be a real nice perk. I wonder how the numbers stack? Maybe we should #RedRoo. @RedRoo.

Strikes me as way over the top, effectively comping the equivalent of 2,400 SCs. Would make much more sense to give you an SG-size head start towards WP qualification each year, even if they decide to make you start from 600 and work towards 1,400 rather than 1,200. Otherwise, as has been pointed out before, the optimum number of SCs for someone with LTG who won't make WP is zero.

Pretty sure theres a balance to be achieved. Like - flying enough to achieve SG in a membership year quals for WP instead? Achieving WP level goes to WP1.

Well, that would certainly give me a reason to start flying QF more again. But I suspect it would be seen as way too big a devaluation of P1. I would settle for a path to WP starting from SG level.

Agree - I agreed with the general nature of the suggestion to provide something extra for LTGs to keep them in the fold; specifically what remains debatable.

Once someone ha LTG ... then there needs to be a lot of individual benefits to move to WP I suspect.
I know I question it if I am better with my LTG with QF and then focusing on another airline / alliance.

If we had an (unfair ?) head-start of say 600 SCs then it would absolutely sway the balance. It would stop me gaining status with United as an example.

If LTG is the best to be achieved and people move on to other schemes then it makes commercial sense for Qantas to provide additional value for ongoing $. And even MrP is dabbling with AirNZ for frequent trips to Auckland. Oh. And the direct flight from Adelaide has a bit to do with it too. :(. No matter, he has LTG!

If you are flying enough to get status in a few programs that's ok and makes sense to have more than one FF program.

If Lifetime Gold already and not flying enough to accumulate status in other programs then no point leaving some crums in various FF programs. I have ~5,500 FlySmiles miles about expire. Can't do much with them. Maybe a bottle of scotch in flight by June.
