Limited Offer: Upgrade from Economy

Interesting that the email I received mentions my return flight SIN-MEL on A380 (well not really a return as it is booked from SIN) and I have a stack bookings between now and then.

Tempting but at this stage I shall to stick 80K and save the QFF points for a rainy day.

I got the offer too and it specifically mentions my 16 June SYD-SIN flight. I'm booked in O class, paid for exit rows 79B/C. I logged in and it says the ugprade is unavailable.
I shall waive to you over Indonesia somewhere. :) I hope you are not wearing thongs on this trip. ;)

You are right. Just worked it out. sheer coincidence that 90 days from the return leg is a day after this offer expires.... damn.

Received the offer however I have to apply for the upgrade by 18 March and my flight doesnt open until the 1 April to apply. Why would they send the offer specifically referenceing said flight if i cant take advantage of the offer?

. Why would they send the offer specifically referenceing said flight if i cant take advantage of the offer?

Because it is a feel good thing?

Note that you may not be limited to only upgrading the referenced flight. In this current round I can upgrade from a choice multiple of my booked flights, if I wish. so if you want to do it and have other flights, it can't hurt to check if those are eligible as well.

Grrrrrrr!

My A380 flight on June 10 is available for an upgrade but I have seat 80A so don't really want to waste the points on moving (or should I? - haven't done business in the A380)

My 747 flight on June 18 is not available for upgrade until March 20 - 3 days after the promotion finishes!!!!! That's the one I wanted to upgrade!!! I have a bulkhead seat but not sure how much room is in that particular aircraft.

I've had row 58 exit row seats on 747's in the past. More leg room than premium and probably even business. Of course the seat is slightly narrower because of the in arm rest table etc. The main gripes on these is its near the galley and people congregate there. I'm not a great sleeper on planes so it doiesn't bother me. Rather have the legroom than the peace and quiet.

I've put an upgrade in for a flight i'm in the exit row for. As they won't approve it til 5 hours before the flight, I'll keep 58H, unless the upgrade is approved. I did check give me an nupgrade to premium economy if available, just to try it out, but think i'd prefer my exit row economy seat to be honest.

This is the thrid time that I have been emailed this offer in the last 18 months:p, so far I haven't been declined an upgrade (fingers crossed that my luck continues for my PER-SIN-LHR-ABZ and return in June).

Although the offers do mention a specific flight, I have been able to not only upgrade my other bookings (domestic and international), I have successfully upgraded family members on completely seperate flights using the "upgrade family member" button in the Qantas webpage. I do encourage others to do this, it has been a nice gift to friends and family over the last wee while.

However, on checking my flight details SIN-LHR I noticed that after ticking the box "would you like a premium economy upgrade if business upgrade is unsuccessful" the notes in my booking say "Upgrade to Premium Economy Requested" not "Upgrade to Business Requested". After cancelling my upgrade I reapplied this time not choosing the premium option and the notes read "Upgrade to Business Requested".

Has anybody A) been knocked back an upgrade? and B) knocked back a Business upgrade and got Premium Econ? I feel it's a ploy by Qantas to take points off us for a coughpy premium econ upgrade when what is really sought is a business class upgrade.

I was asked by the premium desk if I wanted to also go for Y+ if J is unsuccessful, but I declined that for those reasons you mention ..... it's not worth it esp. if one is in a good Y seat.

As if you wouldn't! I'm happy to give up my 80A/80K on my SYD-LAX and LAX-SYD to experience J on the 388.

Do it! :)

Must be for WP's (I never got an email) but managed to upgrade my PER flights to J both ways no problems. Here's hoping my DOM config 332 is subbed for an INT config (flights are in June). Otherwise i'll cope:)

*edit*
Turns out it's 2-3-2 config *grumbles* here's hoping the stupid 2-3-2 are gone before June :S

Hmmm, maybe I should then - haven't seen upstairs on the A380 yet!

I received it too. Just didn't notice this thread had already started.

SYD-SIN-LHR-BUD

Only the SYD-SIN-LHR sector is available for an upgrade.

Please feel free to correct me, but to go from a Red eDeal (Discount Y), to J, is 96k points? Rather expensive way to burn points (IMO).

Normally, not all fare types allow you to register for an upgrade using your Qantas Frequent Flyer points, however for a limited time we've waived this restriction.

This means that for your upcoming international trip which includes travel in Economy from SYDNEY to LONDON you are now eligible to use your points to register for a Flight Upgrade Award* from Economy to Business.

Don't miss out!
To be eligible you must register your upgrade request online at qantas.com by 18 March 2011.

How to register your upgrade request using your points:
1. Login to Your Profile on qantas.com
2. Go to Your Bookings
3. Select Upgrade and follow the steps

Please remember that telephone requests are not eligible and that you can only register for an International Flight Upgrade Award from 90 days to 24 hours before your departure from your first port of origin. Also, if you travel on a Flight Upgrade Award, you'll earn points and Status credits for the fare you originally booked.

We received it as well.

Mrs Aus ATC (my PG) was invited to apply for an upgrade to J from a paid discount Y fare HKG-LHR. I was offered an upgrade to Y+ for myself and Miss AusATC from a YASA for the same flight (different PNR to Mrs AusATC). Flights are on 27th June, so well outside the 90 day window.

I think the difference in offer was based on available points - I don't have enough for a J upgrade x2, but do for Y+ x2, while Mrs AusATC has enough for her J upgrade.

In any event we won't be taking up the offer - preferring to travel together in row 40 of the 4 class B744.

I've got a similar problem, though I didnt actually receive the offer, but my flights are currently upgradable (but not open)...hopefully they keep repeating this offer.

Hmmm, maybe I should then - haven't seen upstairs on the A380 yet!

If you do get the J upgrade, the front J cabin feels better and less crowded than the middle J cabin. Also a chance to sit on top of the F people downstairs

Don't worry, this is how it shows when you check that box, your Business class upgrade request will be considered first. An upgrade to PE will only be assessed if you Business upgrade request is unsuccessful..

I always tick the box; IMHO PE is better thanWHY on QF.

...

Has anybody A) been knocked back an upgrade? and B) knocked back a Business upgrade and got Premium Econ? ...
I have never failed to be upgraded to either Business Class or Premium economy when selecting that option. Last month coming from NRT we missed a business upgrade but received PE. Last year coming from SIN we received a business upgrade so PE was not a consideration.

I would not call PE coughpy.

If you select the box and get upgraded to PE rather than Business only the PE points cost is assessed.

I've applied for the upgrade but I guess I can always cancel at anytime and still retain my 80A seat!

I was being cheeky and referring to be in the First Class* cabin than upstairs in business ;)

*still hoping for that day to come though.

Speaking about Upgrade offers.

I just got one for my upcoming Budapest-Berlin (Malev) sector in my inbox.

Has anyone ever heard of this company? I'm kind of err'ing on the side of caution with this one, could be spam.....

I'm sure I've heard of this company before offering lie-flat upgrades with Air Asia. I'm sure if you google it, there will be a link directly from the Air Asia website.
