Limited Offer: Upgrade from Economy

I got the email as well, was only offerred on a little MEL - SYD lunchtime flight, but its my birthday trip! I usually only get Jet* out of NCL but i'm there in MEL already from the 10th for 4 nights so for the few points it cost I took the upgrade as i'm flying out to Bali for 2 weeks from Syd later that afternoon :p Site was swamped for the first few hours, couldn't sign in to QFF, but about 11pm it let me upgrade the red e-deal fare to J class, so only an hour and a bit but i'll be happy with my little treat since the only upgrade you get on Jet* domestic is nothing.

Well I am kicking myself about this offer as I got the email and looked up the flights, but then faffed around deciding whether to use the points or save them for the kids to come on a trip to Germany later in the year...

Eventually decided it would make more sense to just pay for the kids flights later and use the points for a Y to J upgrade for the overnight segments of my syd-lhr trip next week and then went on to do it and found out the offer has now expired.

Doh!! Won't make that mistake again!!!

At least we have been automatically been given exit row/bulkhead seats for all four flight segments, so it will make Y as comfortable as it can be :)

It's back!

Limited Offer: Upgrade from Economy

Sent: Wednesday, 16 March 2011 ...

Dear Mr <serfty>

Normally, not all fare types allow you to redeem an upgrade using your Qantas Frequent Flyer points, however for a limited time we've waived this restriction.

This means that for your upcoming domestic trip which includes travel in Economy from MELBOURNE to SYDNEY you are now eligible to use your points to redeem a Flight Upgrade Award* from Economy to Business.

Don't miss out!
To be eligible you will need to request your upgrade online at qantas.com by 18 March 2011.

How to upgrade using your points:
1. Login to Your Profile on qantas.com
2. Go to Your Bookings
3. Select Upgrade and follow the steps

Please remember that telephone upgrades are not eligible and that you can only redeem a Domestic Flight Upgrade Award from 353 days to 24 hours before your departure from your first port of origin. Also, if you travel on a Flight Upgrade Award, you'll earn points and Status credits for the fare you originally booked.

Note, as upgrades can be popular, your request may not always be successful.

Terms and conditions

* Requests for flight upgrades will not be accepted within 24 hours of scheduled departure from the first port of origin, are only available on Qantas operated flights with a Qantas flight number on your ticket, are subject to capacity controls and availability is limited. Domestic On Departure Upgrades cannot be used for this offer. Flight upgrades will only be confirmed if seats in the relevant cabin class are available. Flight upgrades are not available on Qantas & Partner Classic Award flights or heavily discounted airfares booked in E, P, U, X or Z class and are usually not available in E, N, O or Q class except for this promotion between 12.01am AEDT, 16 March 2011 and 11.59pm AEDT, 18 March 2011. Members must have sufficient points for the requested flight upgrade at the time they request the flight upgrade.
Hmmm... the flight is showing U4, but for a 10am MEL-SYD flight I'm not really fussed.

Now, the one after that to LAX is of a lot more of interest to me. :p

yup just got the offer for my SYD-LAX O fare, however doesn't seem to be actually loaded onto QF yet as after logging in it still says the upgrade is not available.

Hopefully it just hasn't been loaded yet, wouldn't want it to be that the J cabin is already full! :(

Not yet working for me either.

Hmmm; does this mean that it not available for F/J/Y/WASA bookings?

E is repeated! What does that mean?

yes got the offer too - but for some domestic flights - logged in and saying not available for upgrade...at least last time - i got to the upgrade screen and then was told that there were no more upgrades available

Maybe they learnt from their mistake last time when everyone could request upgrades for either DOM or INT bookings?

I have got the same problem with flith NY-SYD. Made a call to platinum phone and they promised to fix it today.

I also just called the premium desk and they said that there was an error made - they were only supposed to send the offer to WP but they sent it out to everyone, and that is why no one can upgrade because they stopped the process so not everyone and his dog could register.

I got the same thing... on my return leg lax-syd in June.
Website link is down, the qantas phone operator said that all the calls in the last 20 mins had been the same thing. I really only wanted to go to y+ and save my points... but what the hell... Discount Y to J is only 72000 (only 50000 when I take off points earned for the flight)

I got it as well for my upcoming flight SYD-ADL. But it doesn't specify a date. I have 4 of these flighs in the next month so...... :?:

The two emails on this that I received (Feb 22 and Mar 16) both noted in the content the first available flight I could apply the offer to.

I got the offer too and it specifically mentions my 16 June SYD-SIN flight. I'm booked in O class, paid for exit rows 79B/C. I logged in and it says the ugprade is unavailable.

EF shows F7 A7 J9 C9 D9 I9 for QF31

Should I call the premium desk to ask for the upgrade? I should be first in the upgrade queue if I do this ASAP, well after the CL's of course.

And after WPs on upgradable fares that have already submitted their requests.
Certainly those WP on normally upgrade eligble fares would be in front of those requesting an upgrade using this promotion. However, I believe a WP on a L fare would be higher in the "pecking order", even if the sub mit it after a WP on an O fare.

I don't believe time of request is a major factor these days.

Yep and WP on those fares too :p

I just got off the phone from the Premium Desk and the GF and I are both now registered to be on the upgrade list. I guess its three months of some *hope* rather than being officially stuck in economy

Really?

When i called they took my number and said they would call me back and accept the offer manually... might have to call them again.
