I traveled Y last month MEL-LHR and had the luxury of Bulkhead seats. I also won't be throwing my name into the ring! :p

I just got back from Europe on QR. The MEL-DOH segment is great, the 777 is really a very nice config 3-3-3 and much better seat pitch than QF or BA.

Unfortunately the DOH-BRU segment wasn't so nice, and A330 was 2-4-2 but the pitch sucked, and it has a foot rest that folds up and hits your shins if you're over 5'5". Still, the 777 flight is stunning (And we managed to get an empty middle seat both ways).

This has to be one of the funniest threads i've ever read on here!!:D

I'd happily put my hand up for that trip - can write & take photo's. Also have prior experience (AKL -> Jberg (return) back in the days when you stopped in SYD, PER & Harere on the way). 27 hrs of drinking J&B rare. Got through it by spending most of each leg down at the tail of the plane with some other like minded travellers & just pushing the call button of the nearest seat every time we needed a refill.

Still dont remember going through customs in SA though - had to look at my passport for the stamp!

It does sound as though Lawless has front running though - If thats the case - enjoy :)

(if not July's great for me.)

One of the bad or good things about traveling is when you do it alone it can be rather boring, I have had more interesting chats with seatmates in economy than in any of the premium classes on longhaul flights.

Business or First Class is a great way to travel but not so much fun when doing it yourself.

I have no problem at all travelling alone when flying - it is on the ground that I find the travel is harder when alone. In fact in flight I would rather not be with other people. Tonight I am flying to BKK and upgraded to F and have chosen a window seat to avoid being next to anyone...

Would it be pushing it to say that I am on my way to the airport right now so more ready than any of you?

EDIT

Well my son left on QF29 last night.... This is his part of the bet sorted! I really need to sort mine out now!

He arrives into London at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon to attend the funeral for his Great Grandmother. It will be nice for both of us to spend some time in Europe together.

I will do this horror journey... Just not so sure when!!

I'd be willing to do it. I have a couple of qualities that would make a me a unique candidate:

- 6'4" (Maximum whY discomfort for contrast)
- Never travelled international J or F (apparently JQ* is only dom J product)
- Can do the 'radio journalism' bit (think an audio version of a trip report, along with a written - kind of like Hamish and Andy used to do)

Only think I have working against me is that I only have QLD school holidays free (due to work commitments as a professional adolescent wrangler).

Well, seeing as you're in the UK now, why not get it over and done with by flying someone over to take the flight back with you?

I am going to Paris on Saturday. Then New York next week. Coming back to London for a few days then heading back to Melbourne.

I will only be in Melbourne for a week or so before coming back to London. Maybe that flight will be the one I need to fly Y??
