Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

Hi,

Hoping someone can help. The wife and I are heading to Japan in 10 days and we have a flight Osaka (KIX) - HKG on Jetstar (GK Flight) in Y. I am WP and my wife SG, is there any lounge that we can get into?

Unfortunately I don't think so... The Osaka OW lounge doesn't recognise Jetstar flights as eligible.

Enjoy exclusive access to premium airport lounges around the world with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire frequent flyer tier status. Members of oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes with the equivalent of oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier status can use lounges offered by oneworld airlines when departing on any flight marketed and operated by any oneworld member airline, regardless of cabin class being flown (exceptions are noted below).

Priority Pass has a lounge though, KAL Lounge, so if you have a high value CC, check to see if it enables you to access to PP lounges. My Westpac Black gives me two per annum for free.....

Good Luck

Thanks Colster

Will try my luck, else spend more time in Osaka and arrive as late as possible

Hawaiian Lounge Access - SYD

Hi there.

I am flying SYD - HNL shortly. the ticket (economy) is booked on Hawaiian paper but I am VA Gold.

Am I able to get Lounge access in Sydney?

It is not real clear when I look at the VA website but it appears I might be able to access the Koru Lounge??

Any ideas?

thanks

Actually the Virgin website is quite clear:
International Lounge Access | Virgin Australia

Between SYD and HNL on Hawaiian airlines, VA WP can use:
SYD - Air NZ lounge and 1 guest
HNL - Delta lounge and 1 guest (only if travelling back to Australia)

Re: Hawaiian Lounge Access - SYD

Thanks Quickstatus I saw that but my concern was that I wasn't flying on a VA ticket so wasn't sure if I would still get access.

Cheers

its the operating airline that's important rather than the codeshare

Note: Lounge access is only available in conjunction with flights that are operated by Virgin Australia or an airline partner as identified below.

Just arrived back in Sydney on CX (J) this morning, with a connecting flight to CBR in Y, as there are few flights SYD-CBR with J seats.

Went to the QF Club on the domestic side and asked whether we were able to use the Business lounge as we were just off our CX J flight.

The answer from the lounge guardian (what's the term for a male lounge angel) was that we could use it if we were off a QF J flight, with the inference that the answer was no from a CX flight.

Is this correct?

QF's page on lounge access answers this: Lounge Locations | Australia | Sydney Domestic | Domestic Business

[TH]International Business oneworld Customers[/TH]
Eligible if travelling on a Qantas domestic flight connecting to or from a oneworld flight in International Business on the same day
No guest allowed.

Connecting to or from international OW you can use the business lounge, CX included.

Under standard oneworld rules, connecting from long-haul J to short-haul Y would also give you lounge access according to the inbound flight - however - QF doesn't treat it's domestic business lounges according to the OW model (ie OneWorld sapphires are not entitled to access). So QF could probably exclude access according to the OW rules. But in this case, QF's own access policy has the same effect anyway.

Hello,

I have DL flights booked SYD>LAX>SYD on VA metal, flying J but we are both WP.

For Sydney? Would we be allowed to access the Koru lounge as we are on VA metal?

For LAX, I understand we will have access to the Korean TBIT lounge but will I have access to the Star Alliance lounge as we are flying VA/WP?

many thanks

The lounge access is dependant on the operating airline - in your case VA metal.
SYD : ANZ Lounge
LAX : *A Lounge

If DL is operating airline, and VA codeshare
SYD : same
LAX : DL lounge

Both are also consistent if you use you WP as the criteria.

So, if I'm reading this correctly its a QF enhancement that overides OW policy?

So, if I'm reading this correctly its a QF enhancement that overides OW policy?

No.

OW policy would dictate that long haul business class connecting to short haul economy would have access to the business class lounge at the connecting airport.

however, qantas doesn't classify their domestic 'business lounges' as business class lounges for OW purposes... ie OW sapphire are not allowed access.

however... QF's own policy of allowing access gives the same net effect of allowing entry, so it's really a moot point, more a discussion on a technicality.

down the track, QF could limit access to the qantas club rather than the business lounge if they wanted and not be in breach of OW rules.

Quickstatus, VA's rules are based on operating carrier, so given you said you're on VA metal as a WP, you should access to both the NZ lounge in SYD on the way out as well as the Star Alliance lounge (both J and F sections, so have a sit-down meal on the F side!) on the way back.

Oops sorry, I actually meant to address Denali, not you! Agree with everything you wrote, was just trying to add that both J and F lounges at LAX are included.

Ah no worries CA!.
Daughter who primarily is the VAWP says the *A F lounge is not as good as the JLounge. She invariably starts in the FLounge then migrates to J - she prefers the food and the outdoor patio of the J Lounge

The only obstacle would be the Lounge dragons who may see the "DL" on the flight number and immediately shut the door. Hopefully Denali's boarding pass will state the operating carrier. Being a bit OCD and a worry wart I would see if VA checkin can endorse the boarding pass with an entry to the *A lounge

Check-in at VA

When I was there in March, they scanned the boarding passes but didn't seem to bother scrutinising them. My boarding passes were actually Delta-printed ones (since I checked in at JFK), but still carrying a VA flight number. My guess is they would be pretty used to any DL-VA combo?

The J lounge space is definitely nicer than the F space, and the outdoor terrace is indeed super nice — luckily you can have the best of both worlds (lounges)! There's an internal door that connects the F and J lounges, so you can easily move back and forth between the lounges, multiple times if desired. Denali, I recommend you grab some better champagne from the F side, and bring it with you to the J outdoor terrace. Also check out the menu on the F side as well as the buffet selection on the J side before deciding where to eat.

Ok, so hopefully this is in the right place, I am travelling the following route,
per-mel-lax-yvr
sea- lax-Syd-per

have long layovers in mel-lax on the outbound
now I know domestically I can get nothing but can I pay in lax to go into a lounge?
Have no status as we pool points etc and DH gets all the glory ;)
seattle has a westjet lounge I can use for around $50
flights are Qantas/ westjet/Alaskan
oh and this time just in economy too :/
Tia for any help
