Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions regarding what Airport Lounges are available at specific airports when travelling on specific airlines. While one can be assured of access at the airline lounge when travelling on that airline (provided you have Lounge membership), thing start to get complex when travelling on a codeshare or partner airline.

Posting Guidelines
Please post your questions about Lounge access in this thread. Be sure to include the airline you are travelling on, the airport (and terminal, if known), and any Airline Status or Airport Lounge membership programs you have.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

(Special thanks to Princess Fiona for suggesting this new thread.)

thanks Daver6, i was in the BA F lounge in LHR terminal 5 and the CX lounge in terminal 3 recently. I personally much prefer the smaller CX first lounge with a la cart dining menu. The bus and long transfer queue between t5 and 3 are a big consideration. I think i will take your advice to stay in terminal 5.

I totally agree with you having also been to both. Although BA F lounge also has a la carte dining (well at least they did when I was there for breakfast).

What time of day will the layover be?

I find the BA F perfectly acceptable. You can order from the menu but can sit anywhere e.g. the terrace for some good plane spotting. Linger near the computer right at the entrance to the hallway where they have all the food and wave down a staff member and tell them where you are sitting.

It is afternoon time from 15.25 to 18.30 pm.

BA F lounge is ok, but CX F lounge is definitely better for me. it is all relative. The question comes down to the effort and risk of traveling between T3-T5 and the difference between CX and BA lounge. This is part of our round the world travel, thus, we will be in Sydney F lounge, HongKong CX F lounge, and Doha QR Business lounge. I would be content with BA lounge.

Thanks everyone for your input

As you have a J award ticket, you should get access to the MEL int J lounge.

Very happy to be wrong on this... but AFAIK JQ business awards don't come with lounge access unfortunately. You need to have purchased a bundle, or be a QF Club or gold or higher.

The other option for the OP would be to buy lounge access to one of the pay-in lounges. $60 or something for three hours? Possibly cheaper than a bundle (not that they can be added anyway).

Per-Mel J, connecting to Mel-Lst Y (Qantaslink Dash 8). Same PNR. Can I get lounge access in Melbourne while connecting? No status.

Hi all
Hoping to get the wisdom of the group on this - am flying from BKK to SIN on 3K in Oct19 (as part of a redemption flight) - I am WP - will I get any lounge access in BKK? From what I can read online looks like WP doesn't get lounge access in BKK as there is no QF lounge. My other thoughts were:
  • Cathay - K not being part of OW I cannot access the Cathay lounge
  • Emirates - also looks like access to the 3K lounge as need to be on a QF plane
So if I want lounge access i will need to go down the pay for lounge access? Or will checkin give me a voucher for the Louis Tavern lounges perhaps?

Thanks!

Possible upcoming trip
Son and daughter in law and 10 month old son flying to Taipei on China Air ticketed China Air
We are considering going on same flight as Qantas code share so ticketed as QF number
Can son , Dil and grandson come into lounge with us at Sydney ?
Husband and I are both platinum
Thanks

I’m thinking possibly no but very keen to hear from others

I'll be flying 3K SIN - BKK with a QF flight number. Will be there around peak zoo time for the QF lounge. As a WP, am I entitled to access the EK lounge?

Unfortunately no - you need to be traveling on a QF/EK marketed flight number and QF/EK operated aircraft (QF/EK*QF/EK).

Thanks @serfty I had a feeling it would be a no go for one reason or another, but would have been remiss not to check. I think a feed in the QF lounge will be in order and then find peace and quiet in the BA or one of the PP lounges.

You won't be able to access BA on a 3K flight, either.... PP if you otherwise have access, maybe

Will have a rellie visiting in Oct and Mrs WF and I will accompany her firstly to Tassie and then to Singapore.
Domestic lounges are easy as a WP I can guest two.
Are there any options ($$ or points) for lounge access in MEL (for 3) on the way to SIN? No CC or PP memberships that would work.

Just wandering
Fred

The House is not a bad lounge but is a bit pricey.

No chance, generally these lounge passes can only be used at Qantas lounges before travel QF or Jetstar coded flight.

I posted something similar in the VA forum, but perhaps this thread is better.

I am WP on both VA and QF and trying to decide between Qatar and Etihad for the following open-jaw itinerary in economy:

28 Nov - Dep SYD for BRU
29 Dec (approx) - depart IAD for SYD
(EU to IAD segment will be booked separately)

I have not used either EY or QR before. My understanding for EY is as follows:
SYD - should have EY lounge access on departure, plus one guest on same flight (but not same booking)
AUH - should have some lounge access (maybe first class?), plus one guest as above
IAD - unknown about lounge access, but some lounge access at least (I won't have a guest here)
AUH - on return - same as outbound

For QR, flying as OWE it should be :
SYD - QF first class lounge, plus one guest on same flight (but not same booking)
DOH - Access to "First" lounge which is really a lesser lounge for OWE's only. (Guest on same flight / different booking ref should be allowed.)
IAD - some AA lounge, not too fussed
DOH - on return - same as outbound

Am I missing anything here? I'm leaning towards QR for the flight comfort as most of the segments will be A350 and A380, which have slightly wider economy seats than the 777's and 787's used by EY. Also the QF First lounge is something I want to show off to my guest :) . But if there really is first class lounge access in AUH twice on the EQ itinerary, that's a consideration.
