Is there a recommended good secure soft duffle bag ? I dislike having a pocket on the side because "illegal" items can be easily inserted. Are tamper evident security seals reliable ?

In my experience ther is no totally secure bag of any sort - especially a soft duffle bag that can be easily cut open. And the most insecure part of any bag is the zips, they can be easily opened with anything pointed and then rezipped again. The most effective way to secure your luggage is to wrap it in plastic, its done at Melbourne and Brisbane at the airport. Cost about $10 I think.

Take a look at the Tatonka Barrel bag, this is a soft duffel bag made from a tough water resistant material. It just has one compartment that is lockable, there are no side pockets.
There is also a product called PacSafe ExoMesh, this is a wire mesh that covers your bag and is then tightened to fit and locked. The only problem is that when you want access to your bag it will be time consuming to take the mesh off.
The plastic security seals won't stop someone getting into your bag if they really want to and have enough time to cut through the seals but you will be aware that your bag has been tampered with. Personally I would choose a good quality luggage lock instead.

Thanks. I just bought a PacSafe Tour Safe bag from Amazon with 54% discount.

If (or I hope, when) I get another job that involves extensive travel, I'm thinking of getting a carry on from these peeps: Genius Pack | Extremely Functional Luggage, Innovative Travel Solutions

I currently have a samsonite cosmolite, which is great except for having to open the whole thing to get anything out. Fine on short flights when I don't need to get anything out (I just put what I need in my handbag) but a PITA on long haul.

Has anyone used a genius pack? I love some of the features but would like to know how robust it is.

After more than 1 year of dithering, finally ordered a Red Oxx Air Boss.

I have had my Red Oxx Air Boss for 6 months now and find it a fantastic, you wont regret it (I too procrastinated for a year before ordering)
Extremely well made and lifetime warranty
Make sure you don't over pack though because it can get heavy
Shoulder strap will not slip either

My beloved Rimowa alloy suitcase has been admitted to the luggage 'hospital" again after an altercation with a something tougher than itself whilst in transit with SQ.
I'm currently eying off the Crumpler alternatives.. :?:

I have to say, Trunkster looks good!

I was at first a bit concerned about the battery, but see that's only for the carry-on bag and is removable, but wow, 15,000 mAh!! That's a lot of charge, whether you need it or not :p

it both looks and sounds good - until I get to the bit where it weighs over 3.5kg!

I wonder if that's with the battery pack or not?

My guess is without. They would want the bag to sound as light as possible - they wouldn't give the weight with the battery in. Which means basically you're only going to have less than 3kg of natural hand luggage allowance once you subtract the bag!
