Macquarie Bank takes over from HSBC

I posted this bit:

...but as I was about to pay my statement by BPay, I called to confirm. I turns out that YOU CANNOT PAY YOUR STATEMENT VIA BPAY. Apparently, making a payment to your card via BPay is blocked untill you receive the VISA card. They can remove the block while you make the bPayment, (while they wait on the phone) and then they reinstate the block!

Ahh, what fun! Apparently you will received an error code if you try to make the BPayment without the block lifted.

Thats how it occurred for me. I'm happy to admit that Macquarie maybe making it up as they go.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Not to mention the deluge of cancellation requests they must be getting ;)

Not sure that I was "lying"?? I Bpayed my outstanding balance on the 28/2, I did not notice then whether the "No Bpays allowed" was posted. However, when I checked on 6/3, payment was still showing as gone from my bank account, but not showing as received on the Woolworths page. This was when I saw the note about "No Bpays". I saw the posting from Scr77, so thought I would give it another few days before contacting Woolworths. Visa card arrived yesterday, I activated it and today the payment is showing up on the Woolworths page. Pushka was quite correct, it is showing as paid on 28/2, the original date of transfer.

Im sure there was no lying just confusion.

The BPay issue was about using the card to pay other bills. The slow acknowledgement of payments to pay off the card was all about their sucky transition process.

These guys are complete clowns.

Cancelled my card on the 11th of Feb. Last statement issued a couple of weeks later. Showing Qantas points earned, contacted them on Monday about the points not being transferred. Just had a phone call to tell me that once the account closed on 11 Feb, they could no longer transfer points to my QFF account. Words to the effect that once the account is closed there are no more dealings with that account. I made the point that I earned the points according to our agreement (contract) before the account closed and that they should pay. Not sure if that was the reason but they offered to escalate the issue to a manager, as an exception (!!! WTF!) to the rule that there are no points transferred after account closure.

At this point I asked if I still had to pay the outstanding balance since there is no more dealings once the account is closed. In fact, on that rule I shouldn't have paid for the previous statement since payment was due after I closed the account. This bit of sarcasm didn't change anything, they are still going to escalate for the points. this will take 2 days to get an answer. I do feel a bit bad about the sarcastic comment because the phone agent was very nice.

I keep getting reminders to activate my new card, but no card has arrived.

I certainly won't cancel until I have a zero balance and all points have been credited.

Wait until you get the email offering 5,000 bonus points. That's what I did. I'll be cancelling it anyway once the 5,000 points are transferred to my QFF account.

I keep getting reminders about the new card but nothing has arrived yet.

I made a BPay a couple of days ago that has left my bank but has yet to credit to the WW card. Phoned and they said it will still go through but will be delayed. I was hoping to be paid up and cancel before the new card came - although if 5000 points is likely, I'll hold fire.

The on-hold message said new cards were being issued in February. What a bunch of clowns.

Quite wise !

Lucky I had only a few hundred points which I do not mind losing if they do not credit.

Medhead's experience is rather hilarious "... can't transfer the points because the account is now closed ...".

Glad to get rid of this card.

I'm confused about the BPay bit.

Does that refer to the new cards only ?

Can we (the cancelled lot) still BPay the outstanding balance as usual before the deadline ?

I'm also confused about the bpay thing. I can't answer your question other than to say; My last statement had the new card details including in the bpay instructions. I set up a future dated payment on that basis. If it goes through or not isn't my problem really. At least in the first instance.

I haven't got a new card, nor is there any indication on my account or statements that I am getting one.

I am ready to cancel my account, wonder if I should wait??

Only if you have any amount outstanding, I would suggest. It's a shambles; can't wait to get rid of it.

Actually I just checked my account and I had the "we have sent you a new card" message.

So I guess I will wait for the card to arrive and then await the 5K points offer before cancelling. Luckily I am not up for another annual fee until October ;)

I've been getting 'new card on its way' and 'activate your new card' messages for some time now - but it hasn't yet shown up. They are loopy.

Pay the outstanding amount by bpay.

Their crazy systems is not accepting, or is hugely delaying acceptance of, online BPay payments. My payment has left my bank but has not credited at the card account.

I would wait until
a) balance is zero, and
b) any residual points have transferred.

I'm ignoring all the problems with this WOW card and just carrying on BAU with no new card as yet. On the AMEX Black, I am doing what burmans suggests. I have just stopped charging things to it and will cancel in 4 weeks once all points credited.
