Always tough to get an upgrade on an inaugural flight.

I don't think JessicaTam was referring to any inaugural flight. She's discussing tonight's QF9, swansong week for via DXB operation.

On occasion I've found Expert Flyer to be inaccurate so hope springs eternal. Say a prayer to St Jude.

Actually I was. My QF10 flight on Sunday is the first LHR-PER direct flight.
And no swan song week - swan song flight.

Any special mention about it being the last flight via DXB?

I just looked up QF9 on Flightradar: surprised to see VH-ZND is over Hoboken: on closer inspection that is the suburb of Antwerp, not New York. The total estimated flight time PER-LHR is 16h53m for 14,498km.

I hope London air traffic control gives it landing priority and it doesn’t have to circle for 15 minutes as seems to be the norm landing at LHR. Just for this historic inaugural flight.

That was the westbound inaugural QF9, operated by the 787-9 in Yam Dreaming scheme. currently descending through 13,000 feet 7 minutes from landing at Heathrow.

Just arrived LHR on QF9 non-stop from Perth! Fantastic flight. Great crew. Lots of onboard celebratory announcements and media interviews. Didn’t feel restless towards the end either. Sat in row 47. Fairly full flight, only a handful of spare middle seats.

I am hoping my spare middle seat sticks. I got a txt leat night that my upgrade request was unsuccessful.

MEL-DXB there was mention at the gate prior to boarding, and several mentions during the flight whenever the Captain spoke.

Flying DXB-LHR was just another flight. I don't think it was mentioned once. I guess they didn't get the memo. :D

I sat in 33A on the fist leg, with a shadow. The only other seats free on the upper deck were 36DE. The crew were great and I ended up with 2x amenity kits, a pair of pyjamas, and plenty of bubbles. Ok, @Ansett may have helped with some of them. ;)

We were maybe 15 minutes early - until we were asked to do a few laps of a holding pattern. We ended up landing about 15 minutes late. @Melbournian1 will be able to give the exact numbers. :)

We had a visit to the flight deck and had a chat to the tech crew. They and the flight attendants were spending 24 hours in Dubai, followed by paxing back to MEL with EK. With no operational duties the next day, I reckon that would have been a night to remember for them.

The LHR leg was still due to take off on time so our delayed landing and detour before getting off the plane was eating into our lounge time. We high tailed it through the priority screening lane and up to the lounge. I had just ordered breakfast and bubbles when I noticed my shadow in 33B had disappeared. I ducked up to the lounge entrance where I chose 70E instead. An aisle seat without the elbow jostling of people walking past.

As I said above, the occasion of the flight was not remarked on at all. The flight attendants were chatting about it 'though. And shaking their heads at what I had planned.

Once again I was treated to a glass or two of something nice from up the front, and at one stage I visited the J lounge and had a good chat to Charlie the CSM. She will be at the launch flight today with some colleagues standing in for the flight attendants for the flight. With all the festivities planned the actual crew would have been over hours, so they will slip onboard to do their checks just before departure.
