Very interesting review. Honest comments about the seat.

Do you like that 'pad' on the seatback at its top? I can't see its purpose. Just annoying. It wouldn't help sleep.

JessicaTam, without looking them up, isn't it the case that every airline with B789s has gone for horrible nine across in Y except for JL and NH?

Not excusing it - it's poor - but QF is not the sole airline doing this.

There must be a company memo out asking all staff to promote the seat. When I told the CSM that the seats were narrow, the answer was to promote the extra leg room. The captain (Andrew) came past for a chat and I said the same thing when asked how I was enjoying the flight. The response was the same - 'but there is extra leg room'.

Reminds me of an old debating trick: "Weak point, raise voice!". And I'll state the obvious that the width or narrowness of the seat can't have a bearing on the legroom, at least as far as I can figure.

Many thanks for the succinct review, not that I'm ever contemplating going 17 hours in whY in a B878.

Nice report Jess should have come back with me on the 2 LOL. Which incidentally was a good flight all be it the Staff were ordinary very ordinary.

PS did you get the pictures I sent you?

BTW did you get the bottle of Grog through?

A well balanced and informative TR.
as an old fat man, I can say that I will not be sen anytime soon in a long haul flight which doesn’t offer a wide, seat. i.e. if it ain’t in J, I ain’t going. :-)
I am also of the opinion that a break up / stop over is a far more civilized way to travel.
Thanks Jess for your sacrifice to bring us this important information.

I think it was being said to try to convince the public that the legroom is great, so why does it matter if the seat is a bit narrower.

Oh, there were quite a few comments from other pax as we stood to leave about how narrow the seats were.

The seat has the same sliding pad with bendy sides as other aircraft. It certainly helped give a bit of support as I tried to sleep.

I never said they were. I just said it was a mistake, particularly as QF has bought them for ULH.

I will not be flying the 787 on long haul and nor will i promote to family and friends, as I have mentioned before it seems to me to be, in Y at least nothing more than a double Aisle 737 with some extra leg room. Not Good.

Such a wasted opportunity

Jesss did you get the Alcohol through and if I may how was the window darkness?

Yes I did. See discussion here: Duty Free liquids LHR-PER-MEL

When I got to PER there was no security screening. We were ushered to the transit lounge which was pleasant enough. PER close off some gates for QF9/10 much like ADL do.

The transit lounge has 15 showers, and about 15 pax were in the lounge in total. So there would not have been a wait even if everyone had wanted a shower. They served Taittinger (I think ), but would normally have Aussie sparkling wine. Chris* was quite happy to tell me they don't have the same rules as domestic as they filled^ my glass as quick as I was emptying it.

*Name changed 'just in case'
^by filled, I mean FILLED!

As to the window darkness: they could have been darker, but I had eyeshades in an amenity kit I picked up on an earlier flight. Thanks @Ansett! ;)

I will await mine in the mail then Jess as a reward for amenity kit and champas ROFL

How much sleep did you manage? Any jet lag?
Sleep was difficult as I was trying not to get bumped on one side, and not bump me seat-mate on the other. I don't think I slept much at all.

I don't think I had time to get jet lag. As I got in at 9pm last night I was able to go straight to the hotel and to sleep. I have certainly lasted a whole day today without issue.
