I enjoy the QF J domestic meal food, but on my last J return I decided that if Qantas offer me quince flavored ice-cream from Maggie Beer once more I'm going to ask for the whY dessert ;)

I've yet to have a Maggie Beer Ice-cream that I like, and personally would much prefer Connoisseur Ice-cream (or even a magnum / drumstick).

That said some people must like it... So what are your thoughts?

Um it's delish!
I'm usually very good at saying no to bad things but I usually weaken to anything Maggie!!

I love it.

I didn't realise she did ice cream until I had it on QF. Now I'm always buying her burnt fig and caramel ice cream in the shops...

Go Haagen Dazs would be my call.
It is high in butter fat to keep our cholesterol scores up in the air.

You mean you want the world's smallest cadbury bar??? Or world's smallest toblerone?

That's my favourite as well :)
I am also partial to Magnums though so wouldn't mind if they offered those as an alternative

No, ex. Perth they offer Drumsticks or other types of ice creams. That said I am not a fan of the mango bar thing they were offering in mid-2011 (last time I flew whY).

Maybe I will just stick to a coffee and cheese plate hehe

I think you and I are both in the preference for plain dessert category. I don't like it, I also don't like the honey flavoured ice cream currently on offer in Y. The days of drumsticks were so good, I miss them.

Although from reading this obviously lots of people like burnt fig!

Thank you!!

You, me and MrsChrisCunard are all on the same page!

Actually what prompted me to comment was recent flights hearing other J pax complain about it - so I thought perhaps it was wide spread - seems not ;)

No you aren't (especially when compared to the absolutely delightful desserts which Virgin is serving coast to coast), plus I also find the whole way they serve it (still in its packaging) as quite economical. But they do offer more consumer friendly flavours sometimes (as per below).

It has been "enhanced" to an even smaller chocolate piece now.

How does DJ serve their ice cream?
On my last flight, as a custard with lychees and various other incredible fruits. (It produced the most exquisite flavour bursts in my mouth.) Sorry, didn't take a picture: So here's another where they did it as a meringue pie (with Cointreau on the side).

Coast to Coast on the A330s, the DJ dessert option tends to be much more fancy than simply serving ice-cream, However on B737s they are sometimes fond of serving ice-cream sandwiches.

When it comes to serving ice-cream in a premium cabin on transcontinental services, IMO this is how it should be done. :D

Made to order Sundae on AA.

Mrscove is a Maggie Beer fan and thinks the ice-cream is an Australian icon. She totally disagreed with my Haagen Dazs option. She fiercely supports anything Australian!
