I'm hoping that MH's official OW join date occurs by October. I'd really like my QF flights from the end of October to be credited to MH and I can also enjoy being OWE by then. :)

I'd like MH to hurry up too. They win over CX as they offer free hotel rooms for transits when in J.

Perhaps the first real step of sorts. MH have announced their cain baggage polic461505_405250279515622_185723778134941_1194917_991143040_o.jpgy will change to fit in with oneworld. Which is good because the old policy was a bit on the low side. From the looks of it the cabin baggage allowance is very similar to what Qantas currently have.

Interesting to see that "a notebook/laptop Or a briefcase..........." is in addition to the carry on baggage allowance. i have asked QF many times before and they insisted that the notebook/laptop are part of the 7 kgs allowance!

Last week when I contacted MH, they were still saying "end of the year" but still couldnt give me a specific date.

I wonder if CX are applying subtle pressure to delay the joining.

Why would they do that? Are they threatened by MH?

They should see MH as serious competition. If I'm ready to jump on and try MH in premium cabins to the detriment of CX. I'm sure others are too.

Will MH have an equivalent of the CX ex TPE J fares?

Hi all...
I seem to be confusing myself a little bit when trying to comprehend how MH joining OW is going to work re: points/miles.

I am a QFF Gold member planning to fly to Burma from Sydney in August, and am tossing up between 3 flight options:
A. QF to BKK, then AirAsia to Yangon, OR
B. MH to Yangon via KUL
C. VA to Yangon via HoChiMinh & then Hanoi

Option A is about $350 more expensive than option B, and about $500 more than option C, but earns me points, status credits, provides access to lounge and gives me time to see BKK for a day or two.
Option B is cheap-ish, but I only earn Enrich miles, and have about 4-6 (unusable) hours in KUL each way (shame, as I'd really like to see KUL).
Option C is the cheapest, via Vietnam Air (which I prefer to a hodge-podge AirAsia option), even though we again don't get enough time to see HoChiMinh city or Hanoi.
I was tempted to go with option A, because I need a few hundred more status credits to maintain my QFF Gold for 2013, but given I only earn 60 status credits with option A, I can't see myself flying enough before December to retain Gold for next year... spending the few extra hundred dollars doesn't seem worth it.
Option C then became preferred, until I remembered that MH is set to join OW later this year.

This is where I need help...
The Enrich miles I would earn with option B can't be converted into my QFF membership ... right?
So post-join, I could book and fly MH and earn QFF points?
But my Enrich miles earned pre-join would just sit there - the only difference being I could redeem them to book OW flights instead of just MH flights? (also option B won't earn me enough Enrich miles to be of any real value for this purpose, as my current Enrich miles are 0).

Have I got this right? or is there any way any Enrich miles I earn pre-join will benefit my QFF membership?

Thanks all :)

Hi all...

Once MH joins OW, ou will earn miles and Status credits to your QFF account. (Subject to what fare buckets are points earning)

If you fly before they join, you'll get nothing in the way of OW recognition.

As an example. I fly JL about 2 weeks before they joined. I was WP and was not allowed into the first class lounge. (I tried). No points or SC earned either.

Mmmm I don't expect anything before they join... was just hoping that my Enrich miles earned pre-join could be credited to my QFF account retroactively post-join.
It's just annoying if I earn a few thousand Enrich miles pre-join, and then post-join they are basically useless (because I'd then begin to credit MH miles to my QFF membership)...

On a side note. I was looking forward to trying MH home lounge at KLIA flying RJ in J, they USD the MH lounge. But it undergoing renovations :(, and MH is using the China Airlines lounge. Though the lounge itself is nothing special (eg one toilet no showers) MH must of brought their catering over to the China A lounge. Amazing Buffett.

Hope MH joins soon....

I just hope their redemption rates stay the same after the join...........

Its very uncommon to be able to transfer FF points between programs. The closest to this is probably Flying Blue which is a single FF program shared by several different carriers. I don't hold any expectation whatsoever that we will be able to transfer miles (or points) between MH and QF.

I'm in the same boat as you ... really wanting to use MH, as they are generally well priced and not a bad airline, but hesitating because I don't have any miles with Enrich and can't see a lot of point at this late stage to joining the program.

We'll have to see how things pan out redemption wise once MH joins OW. Who knows? Perhaps I'll dump QFF and join Enrich after all :)
