I'm in the same boat as you ... really wanting to use MH, as they are generally well priced and not a bad airline, but hesitating because I don't have any miles with Enrich and can't see a lot of point at this late stage to joining the program.

We'll have to see how things pan out redemption wise once MH joins OW. Who knows? Perhaps I'll dump QFF and join Enrich after all :)

I sincerely hope they keep the same burn rates after they join OW - and extend those same burn rates to OW partner flights. ~120k Enrich points for MEL-xKUL-LHR and vv in J on MH metal is a bargain already, but it'd be even better if it was on QF A380!

From all the award searches I've done via Enrich their burn rates seem to be very similar to AA (but with higher surcharges), however much more convenient to use for Australians as they're a transfer partner of Amex.

You can do the MR to SPG thing? IIRC? (for AA)

Re: Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld

MH are aiming to be part of OneWorld sometime in November (according to the latest rumour mill).

Damn - was hoping they'd get there sometime before the end of September so I could use the QF F Lounge in MEL before my MH flight!

Malaysia Airlines is to join oneworld[SUP]®[/SUP], adding one of aviation's most frequent award winners to the world's leading quality airline alliance.
Malaysia Airlines was unanimously elected a oneworld member designate by the Chief Executives of the alliance's member airlines, at a meeting on the sidelines of IATA's 2011 World Air Transport Summit, which opens in Singapore today.

A formal alliance membership agreement will be completed soon.

Malaysia Airlines is expected to start flying as part of oneworld late next year. ...

Re: Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld

I haven't kept up to date with this thread but is MH still on target to join Oneworld later this year?

I am thinking of booking some flights for February next year if I can credit these flights to Qantas.

QTR 1 2013 is the latest rumour, so March 31st 2013. But...the trend is that a is just slipping its target dates...

Re: Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld

It better not be delayed any further than 1Q2013...

Yes beyond early 2013 would take it towards 2 years from announcement to implementation, quite a significant time gap IMO.

Hmmm. Not good news for me. I do not want to spend $800+ on MH flights if I cannot earn QFF SCs and points.

Oh well time to change my plans....

Re: Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld

Pity. booked my J SIN-NRT flights for early Jan, was hoping they would credit. Maybe I 'll be able to caim retrospecitvely or argue with QF that I thought they would be a member by then. Or I could just create an enrich account, esp if QF pull the plug on SIN

Is this another rumour doing the rounds?

Why would QF pull the plug on SIN? To create a hub in KUL? Makes no sense even with MH in Oneworld.
