You'd get around 4700 (each way) if you credit to Enrich. Might be a better option if you don't need the QF status credits; and if you have an Amex card that lets you transfer points to MH their availability of award flights is generally much better than QF, esp in J and F classes.

But carefully check what $$ are needed for taxes and surcharges.

Strangely enough, I'm an Enrich member from a while back, as are the wife and kids, but I struggle to understand the benefits for an Australian resident who doesn't do a lot of flying around Asia.

A few years back I remember between myself and my two kids, we had just enough Enrich points to upgrade ONE, one-way MH flight from SYD to LHR from economy to business for my eldest daughter who was traveling alone, but it cost me an arm and a leg just to transfer the points from 3 separate accounts into one before i could do it!!

To me this sets a dangerous precedent. Could it be likely that the same sort of thing is applied to CX flights (i.e. a reduced earning scale for flights Australia-Hong Kong//Hong Kong-Europe/Middle East) to try and force those who want full frequent flyer points to fly on QF/EK?

I've found Enrich to have great availability in J & F and burn rates very good - last year I flew LHR/SYD in F for 96K points and this year I'm taking the family (four of us) SYD/CDG and back LHR/SYD in J for 408K points. Taxes were high - bordering on outrageous out of London - but as much as I dislike the increasing surcharges/taxes I'm just happy I can get premium seats that I otherwise would never afford/justify on a family holiday.

747 - as I mentioned in my last post, it works for me as 99% of points are transferred from Amex. Otherwise I agreed that having a handful of points in Enrich is somewhat pointless, so to speak!

So QF finally get an Asian partner of a reputable standard enter oneworld and they do do everything possible to try and discourage QFFs from using them? Isn't Asia their 'focus' now that EU has been handed to EK??

MH brings India, Thailand (other than BKK/HKT), southern China, and Sri Lanka/Maldives to the map and QF don't want to work with them? Considering QF pulled out of India, why are they not evening attempting to work with their new 'partner'? Do they not realise that SQ work with VA?

QF should focus their Asian strategy to capitalise on the strenght of MH within Asia and utilise their wider reach in the region (ie. codeshare) whilst still focusing on 'their' ports (SIN (to 3K), HKG, BKK, NRT etc)

After making phone contact with MH, I was given the following Class id's:

flight 1) Hong Kong ---> Kota Kinabalu = Bravo Class (50% ff points on the Q. website)

flight 2) Kota Kinabalu -->(stop over / change planes) Kuala Lumpur --> (actual destination) coughet = Victor Class (25% ff points)

flight 3) coughet --> (stop / change) Kuala Lumpur --> (destination) Hong Kong = Qbec Class (Not listed on QFF Site)

Other then flight 3 not currently allowing FF points / SC's, will the status credits also be 25% and 50% with regards to flights 1 & 2?


I've looked at cathay pacific / dragon air, but their prices are way too much ($1,300+), are there any other 1 world companies that fly to "flight 3"?

No. You will earn full Discount Economy SCs for that sector based on distance.

I'm flying business class MH in April KUL-MNL. Does this mean I can now get QF points/SC's on this flight? I am not sure of the fare class - on the booking form it is called 'Business Promo' and cost around A$475. Can anyone help? Thanks

All business class fares seem to accrue points, and for those not involving one or more of Australia, New Zealand and Europe should accrue you "normal" business class points on QFF (125%). KUL-MNL should accrue ~ 1930 QFF pts + 80 SC's. If travelling before 15 April you should get double QFF points as well, as part of promo.

Most Business class fares ' should' work.

If you booked direct through Malaysian, pull out the Reservation Confirmation email.
Towards the bottom you should see something like this.

TOTAL AIR FARE:xx_ .00 MYR

KUL-MNL (XYYY) ------ The X should represent the fare class - I would expect a D/Z

I've booked an MH flight operated by Firefly from SIN to KL (arriving on QF into SIN). Realised after I booked I won't earn QFF points... but any thoughts as to whether I'd get into a OneWorld loung in SIN (on the basis I'm WF W and arriving on a OW flight)?
Also the first time I'm flying into Subang rather than KUL, so will be interesting on whether this saves time getting into KL CBD.

I'd imagine if it was 1 flight number, even passing through KUL, then you'd get away with it, but in that case, your earn would be far less anyway.

SCs are always based on distance travelled regardless of airline, so its like for like.

Oh ok - so because mh flies via Kuala Lumpur, and hence more miles than qf direct, more sc would be earned on mh compared to the qf flight? Even though qf doesn't fly to kl?
