Malaysian Airlines QFF earn table

Just had a wedding in England land on my lap for October, the cost of three adults (my daughter turns 12 two days before departure) and one child for Malaysian from Perth is a $1,043 cheaper ($6,392 total) than Qantas and $459 better than Emirates. A benefit for Qantas/Emirates is arrival at Gatwick as we are based in Redhill in Surrey, but that's not a deal breaker, plus lounge access (Qantas Club member)

As a PS I'm more interested in status credits and lounge access than points, so what sort of SC's would that trip earn? I need 90 SC to keep PS.

thanks for that, makes it hard to justify the $1,000 extra to go with QF

You should double check if the MH fare earns on QFF as I tend to find the cheapest fare on MH (MH Basic doesn't book into a QFF earning fare). Just took a look at QFF earning fares (MH Smart or higher) and it looks like it's similar pricing to QF if not more expensive.

Found for $2k per pax PER-SIN-DXB-LGW-DXB-PER earning 80SC outbound and 60SC inbound. QF to SIN and then EK metal from SIN onwards.

Could someone clarify for me please;

On a HKG-KUL-LHR J rtn with MH I would earn normal SCs and 125% of the miles HKG to KUL rtn and 75% of the miles KUL to LHR rtn.

Sorry for the dumb question but the table is a tad confusing. Not that miles are my priority, the SC earn rate is good for the price.

Thanks.

Based on the table that sounds right.

Has anyone ever thought that this is maybe due to MH not wanting to pay more for the points, as they are the ones who have to pay for them?

I think you are probably right, having asked QFF service centre about this issue. Advised it was MH's decision. That may be the understanding they have in the service centre but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if at a higher level - as a condition of sponsorship for ow - that QFA insisted on this outcome. All the other ow partners seem to see fit to award 1.0 rather than 0.75 for business fares but their fares are closer to QFA's than MH's.

Taking a more charitable attitude, I could simply accept this: flying SYDKULLHR return in June 2013. $5200 for Z (discount business) vs $7-9k on QFA. Proportionately, it's simply a case of you get what you pay for but it does undermine the whole ow ecosystem, reminding us that it is more for the airlines as a marketing device than it ever was a customer loyalty vehicle. The other price difference I will experience in terms of an inferior product in terms of the A330 between SYDKUL. Angled bed. MH's new A380 on to London however should be equivalent to QF A380 product. The crew on both, as always, will be a case of potluck and worth lowering expectations in advance...

So QF finally get an Asian partner of a reputable standard enter oneworld and they do do everything possible to try and discourage QFFs from using them?

Agree with the thrust of all comments but would note regarding this point that CX appears to have been overlooked, arguably the best ow carrier.

Any experiences on how long points for a MH flight take to come through to QFF?

Couple of days unless its Z class

Yep its Z class, hope they have fixed the issue now with points posting.
I am tempted just to put a claim in, but am holding off just to see if it comes through automatically.

The first step of the claim process is for them to come back and say it has been creditted to another FF program :cool:

Mine have posted on 2 occasions on the Monday following travel... I flew SIN-KUL-BLR on 22nd Apr and points credited QF 29th Apr, and then flew BLR-KUL-SIN on 3rd May, which credited QF on the 6th May
