Hi everyone, just an update following yesterday’s glitch where mistake fares were incorrectly offered for sale by some US based online travel agents.

Apologies for the confusion. The glitch was fixed at 11:30am AEST, however I'm pleased to let you know that Qantas will honour the bookings in this case.

Happy travels!

Not that Qantas had much choice in this matter. There are DOT rules of contract which obligate Qantas to honour these tickets.

I'm super interested to know how this pans out on the numbers side 6 months from now - keep me up to date Red Roo!

Well I didn't get in and being all the way over on the other coast probably wouldn't have anyway but thumbs up to Qantas.

I managed to get a PER-DXB-LHR Return flight for $1033 via Emirates with a QF codeshare on the LHR-DXB return leg... All seems confirmed and no contact to say it's been cancelled.

That is exactly what Red Roo successfully did yesterday. Getting as many people as possible to cancel their bookings claiming that Qantas won't honour them.

That is a pretty strong accusation to make

An update for you savvy AFFers celebrating Xmas in July with these mistake fares: they’re not valid and have been removed from sale. We’re currently following up affected bookings.

This should be enough to get those that naively cancelled their bookings because of misleading information from Qantas rep Red Roo to get their bookings reinstated.

Which have not been enforced by DOT in certain scenarios, where people booking were going through hoops to get the fare.

On this one pax had to use a US Booking site for a booking originating in Australia.
That said QF only lost the fuel fines, which they had been happy to do on previous bookings (eg. the .br bookings from a while ago)

Haven't been enforced in UA's case where the passenger had to manipulate the system to pretend to book overseas and where the passenger actually wrote that they lived overseas. There is NOTHING wrong with using an overseas OTA to book travel. Also in that case, it was clearly a mistake fare. Here they simply left out the YQ. This is not a mistake fare!!

Why would anyone have cancelled?

No clue. But this person obviously did.

What it should actually do is queue a conversation about how FlightNetwork "operate". Red Roo was kind enough to share information he could publicly share as it came to hand, and we should all be appreciative of that as it's been the only "source of truth" for the past 2 days.

Thanks RedRoo, the kids are looking forward to Disneyland :)!

Which probably scared off a lot of people and as many of the OTA's offering the fare were able to be cancelled within 24hours with no penalty.

Now my only regret is I didn't book more of these fares!

Careful wording by Red Roo. Might be standing for parliament one day, or in training for being a journalist..

Never said they wouldnt honour the tickets. Just said the fare wasnt valid and was removed. Following up "affected" bookings could be as simple as saying it's honoured or saying its not honoured. The former now being the case.
