Melbourne lunch 25 April 2010

I’ll have cash on me and it’ll certainly be less than $55.
How much did you say that ceasar salad costs? ;)

Actually the lunch menu for $25 including drink looks OK. Not sure of the size of the meals. Has anyone been there?

Lunch is booked for 12 people at midday as that is the earliest they do lunch.

If we want more than twelve there is a requirement to run off a set menu that starts at $55 through to $95. I suggest we run with that at this stage and if there is going to be more than twelve then we break it into two separate bookings.
Just adding to my previous post as I was short of time earlier.

The person I spoke with was very difficult for me to understand and I had difficulty understanding her so I will ring back tomorrow and hopefully get someone else. (Just like dealing with airlines or hotels really)

I will attempt to consolidate the list (unless someone already has done so) to confirm the numbers and post to see who is in or out.

The booking is under 'Bill' just to keep it simple. I tried AFF but she just did not get it.

I did not even try to discuss billing as it was all I could do to understand her to get the basic booking.

This is the current list as far as I can see:

JohnK
samh004
munitalP +1
straitman +1 (if all is OK)
oz_mark+1
anat0l
Bundy Bear
serfty
notzac
tuapekastar

and maybe

penegal

Am I correct :?:

The list looks right straitman.

Perhaps we should book 2 tables. Did the lady on the phone have a Greek accent? Would you like me to call?

John you have a PM,

Feel free to call and I have no idea of what the accent was. I originally asked for the booking to be on ANZAC day and she had no idea what I was talking about.

The booking is under my name with my mobile number. Maybe you could just make a second booking and ask to be near mine and then later I could reduce the number of people on my booking.

Just to keep people informed while straitman and I try and sort it out apparently we do not have a booking on ANZAC Day. The restaurant is closed for lunch on public holidays. And she spoke perfect English.

Let's see if straitman has better luck than me otherwise we need to find another place (hopefully not too expensive) in Southbank for lunch.

Any suggestions?

John,

I have spoken to them and I will ring you in a few minutes.

OK. Called the restaurant again and we now have a second booking for 7-8 people in my name. We can adjust the first booking once we know final numbers but straitman and I feel that 2 smaller tables are probably better than 1 long table.

By the way they do not do individual bills but can happily accept part cash and part credit card for the payment of the bill.

It took a bit of doing but perseverance has prevailed :!:

Anzac Day is confusing Victorians this year, as it seems having a substitute holiday on Monday when Anzac Day falls on a Sunday is not something they are used to. Anzac Day is Sunday, and the public holiday is Monday.

Thanks for making the 2nd booking John and thanks to Bill for getting it started.

Could we just do the 'open till' method that happens at many FT dos? That is, one person put up the card and everyone else does cash, exchanging change if need be in the kitty?

Here's the "Lunch Specials Menu" - Sundays $25 including glass of "House Wine, Local Beer or Soft Drink":

Very strange considering their menu above says theirs a $5 surcharge on Sundays and public holidays. Strange that they don’t know what’s going on at their own restaurant too :p

So who wants the points?

Are we going to have to play rock, paper, scissors, (spock, lizard)?

Yes. At first I did not quite understand the dialect of the lovely lady on the phone.

I think it is confusing everyone but I would still love to have a substitute day when a Public Holiday falls on weekends.

I do not see any problem with that idea.

Since the tables are booked in straitman's and my name then we get to have the points. ;)

darn, i should have suggested Kobe Joes, then I could have got the ff points, ang SM and JK credit card points :)

Mr!

I guess that is not too bad a price for lunch at that type of restaurant. A salad should be more than enough as I can grab a couple of pies (No, not thos 'Pies) at the MCG.

...
Those "pies" at the 'G may me more expensive than you'd expect.

Those menus are for the three OZ restaurants, in Darling Harbour, Parramatta & Southbank. Maybe one of the other restaurants is open on Public holidays.

Yeh! Bottles of Coke at Subiaco Oval have increased to something silly like $4.40 now  I imagine the MCG wouldn't be much better.
