Oh, good grief. Why? I can only assume that the Malaysians want the scenes created by the relatives in news conferences to go elsewhere. Presumably now the Australian Authorities will be the object of the grief and attacks of the relatives.

I would think this is nothing more than a PR exercise by Malaysian. As Chinese are a superstitious people by culture I would imagine MH are loosing this market quickly right now.

The cynic in me suggests the announcement was made to help free rooms up for the F1.

I'm a little disappointed (to say the least) that the text from MH (assuming media reports are correct) basically said 'they are dead. The plane crashed near Perth in the Indian Ocean'.

Fine. Say the airline likely crashed. Pinpoint a location. But just because a plane crashed does not mean there are no survivors as unlikely as the possibility is.

I thought about this recently, my prediction for the future is that MH will stop flying the Beijing - KUL route on their own metal and codeshare with a Chinese airline simply due to people associating that route/airline with MH370, but without seeing current loads I can't be sure whether people are/are not flying that route atm.

Sad news after all that hope but at least the families can now get on with the grieving process.

Now to find out what happened.

understandably, relatives want to be close to the scene of the accident. we see this again and again.

I think it is reasonable that anyone who wants to come can do so, and I imagine the relevant authorities are organising or waiving visa requirements.

Aah journalists. Another day, another conspiracy theory...

' Sources close to investigation tell Telegraph that team working on MH370 mystery believe it was crashed deliberately

Flight MH370 crashed into the Indian Ocean in an apparent suicide mission, well-placed sources revealed have revealed, as Malaysia’s prime minister announced that everyone on the missing aircraft had died.'

Why do they keep on talking about not being able to "relocate" the debris. They are not trying to move it are they? Surely they mean find it again, or locate it again, not relocate!

Being cruel to be kind perhaps. Those poor people have been living in hope for such a long time now. It is so unlikely that there will be any survivors that they probably felt they needed to get that message across so that acceptance of the reality could start. Thoughts and prayers with all the relatives and friends.

Malaysia Airlines crash: Suicide mission theory of MH370 investigators - Telegraph

And now regurgitated by the SMH MH370 crashed in 'suicide mission', Britain's The Daily Telegraph newspaper reports

LOL. Not much sense shifting anyone down here until they find the thing....

no one could survive floating in the water for over two weeks. so to survive you'd need to be in a life raft. life rafts have locator beacons. so I think it's right to assume no survivors at this stage.

Well the author is an ex-SMH journo so they reckon they can do that!

I suppose they get some marks for placing a disclaimer in the second paragraph.....they must have been in a rush given the typo!

"The newspaper report, which appears on the front page of Tuesday's edition, was based on what it claimed were ‘‘well-placed sources’’. Fairfax Media can not vouch for the veractiy of the story."

Search operations suspended for today due to adverse weather: Update 16
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s search for any signs of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight
MH370 has been suspended for today due to poor weather conditions in the search area.

Due to rough seas, HMAS Success departed the search area early this morning and is now in transit
south of the search area until seas abate. A sea state ranging between 7 to 8 is forecast today with
waves up to two metres and an associated swell of up to four metres.

The area is also forecast to experience strong gale force winds of up to 80km/h, periods of heavy rain,
and low cloud with a ceiling between 200 and 500 feet.

AMSA has undertaken a risk assessment and determined that the current weather conditions would
make any air and sea search activities hazardous and pose a risk to crew. Therefore, AMSA has
suspended all sea and air search operations for today due to these weather conditions.

AMSA has consulted with the Bureau of Meteorology and weather conditions are expected to improve in
the search area in the evening and over the next few days. Search operations are expected to resume
tomorrow, if weather conditions permit.

HMAS Success will return to the search area once weather conditions improve.
