Superstitious or not, they deserve to loose this market for the terrible way they treated the Chinese families in the last few weeks.

How so? Taking into ALL factors and considerations, how/what were the terrible way(s)?? Genuine question.

They used the satellite pings to identify the trajectory arcs and rough speed, then used Doppler shift to determine general direction of travel. Seems like a quite reasonable example of deductive reasoning. Can't vouch for accuracy but seems a quite clever use of indirect data.

I agree.

Here is why it is rubbery. The claims have been made without any detail of the calculations but they did give us these gems (normally used by latenight TV spruikers) for comfort:

  • "an entirely new way of modelling "
  • "dealing with a totally new area"
  • "a bit of a shot in the dark"
  • "is really quite phenomenal"
  • "it's not a routine calculation they would ever, ever make."
  • "Technologically it's really quite astounding."

When you put it this way, it does sound like the latest SPAM email I received on how the stock market is going to make me a multi-millionaire...

China is now demanding proof including the satellite data, quite rightly so in my opinion.

Isolating them in hotel rooms, treating them like prisoners, preventing access to the media, not keeping them in the loop, when some finally managed to get to briefings and cried about the abuse in front of the media they were thrown out like dogs by security guards. Absolutely disgraceful!

Wow!....the Malaysian Government intentionally did that??....wow! unbelievable!

This is not a rebuttal in any way, but to be rather crude and frank, had the Chinese had their way, a few Malaysian officials would've likely joined the MH370 body count by now. That or they'd be patched up in hospital. Whether or not that is a deserved thing is another debate.

Again the problem with your arguments are that prominent scientists and the UK AAIB have poured over the information and are reasonably convinced this is the correct interpretation of the evidence. Now if you have contacts that know more than experienced UK plane crash investigators then please give us a source.

Over on PPRuNe there are a couple that give their translations of Chinese press reports. They suggest there is information from a "secret"Austral;ian tracking station. That is the info they want.It is presumed it is Pine Gap(which really isn't very secret) they are talking about so extremely unlikely either Australia or the US is going to give all that info to the Malaysians and definitely not the Chinese.

There was some footage on Sunday (I think) of two grieving woman holding a protest. No doubt they were more than a little hysterical and out of control and needed to be calmed down but the way they were treated was totally unacceptable IMHO.

Those scientists are barely convinced themselves.

"They've probably crammed almost a year's worth of research into maybe a couple of weeks"
"
We've been trying to help an investigation based on a single signal once an hour from an aircraft that didn't include any GPS data, any time and distance information."
"......
stressing it needed to be checked before it was made public"

Don't go down the slippery slope by using the "if you have contacts that know more" line of argument.
We can only observe information in the public arena. No-one knows more; that's the whole point of questioning spurious claims and goes a long way to explaining the popularity of these forums.

I was listening to an interview on the BBC World early this morning here in BKK (12am), and what was spoken about in the above interview, was covered in a similar fashion.

No 8th ping, due to no power being present, seems to lead to only one possible conclusion - the plane crashed, and I'm fairly certain if it did so over land, somebody would have seen it or it would have been detected. Out in the Indian Ocean 2500km offshore from Perth - not a snowball's chance in hell, unless a ship happened to be in the exact area, which obviously wasn't the case.

Now all that can be done is find it and investigate what happened - and like it or not, that will take time; no amount of protesting/screaming at officials/demanding "the truth" be revealed, can speed up that process, this terrible, unending roller-coaster ride hasn't finished yet, and it could be another 2 years before it does finally come to a close. :(

Missing Malaysia Airlines plane: Tony Abbott says probe has moved into a recovery phase as Australia hands investigation back to Malaysia

Malaysia takes over probe
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said the Malaysian government would take over the investigation for the lost flight as bad weather hampers efforts to recover any wreckage.

He said on Tuesday morning confirmation by Prime Minister Razak that the plane had crashed killing all on board moved the investigation into a new phase, with Malaysia taking control under the Chicago Convention on international civil aviation.

but I don't get your point Browski ?

R u suggeting that they should not have done/be doing what they are ?
I haven't read any smug , we know it all statements from anyone in the Oz search team.
Seems to me that an awful lot of folks have made a massive effort to find the aircraft.
Australia especially , seems to me to be a shining beacon of calm , methodical , applied professionalism.

We are nowadays saddled with a shallow populist media that thrives on spinning angles to create controversy.

It seems to me a bit more expressed pride in a job being very well done would be more appropriate than some of the discussion lines being promulgated here today

Not to answer for Browski, but I think the issue is that a swift conclusion was drawn, based on an unproven and unchallenged process. Not exactly the scientific approach.

I took it to imply pilots gone fairly quickly as coughpit decompressed relatively quickly being a semi confined space, but could take ages to decompress the rest of the plane via one little window

... and have they said who could have turned off the transponder in this scenario?

Au contraire I think it is a fine example of using science to come to a probable cause.
I am sure it is almost certainly backed up by some evidence that will not be made public.

But scientists wouldn't ask their community to simply have faith in them...

In nearly all cases, things are not made public when they are NOT backed by evidence.
At least we are now all in agreement that they have provided the public (and the Malaysian PM) zero evidence.
My cynicism, though slightly above average, pales into comparison to others unquestioning "acceptance".
