Now I'm no expert at all but that flap looks white, I thought MH 777 flaps (and wings) were silver/metal colour?

It's been in the water long enough to have barnacles on it, so paint no doubt would change also.

But is Silver/metal a paint colour or is it the metals natural colour(ie not painted?) ?
cos if it was metal colour originally it wouldn't be able to repaint itself white whilst in the water(unless it had a white undercoat?) .

I can't seem to find picture of the mh777 wings/flaps from above so can't confirm if they're white or silver /metal just trying to go from memory.

Still I hope it is from mh370, to help with this mystery.

Indeed if it is found to be from MH370 it confirms the Indian Ocean theory.

Which raises a whole more questions about the current search area. Do they suspend while searching for more debris? I think this would be a wise move. If it is where they are currently looking - well it'll still be there when the resume, but more debris would provide more data to help with currents and other potential areas of impact, and they're back at square one.

Breaking news on Channel 7 news-believed a suitcase has also been found on Reunion.

Yep photo already online.

MH370: Suitcase reportedly found on Reunion Island, close to where plane debris recovered

Media watch: reporters are confirming it is from a 777, but saying it's likely/possible it's the MH aircraft.

Unless anyone knows of any other missing 777s or Boeing disposes of excess parts in the ocean then it is the missing 777.

Do the journos say it like this so they can never be wrong and still want to be first with the story, have journos dumbed themselves down or do they think the reader is dumb.

News sources don't like to be wrong. They make their money from having fast, accurate and reliable news. And not all of them are experts ... there have been several major crashes in that ocean - maybe they aren't quite up to speed which planes they involved (we often see a picture of the wrong type of aircraft accompanying a news story). We may know instantly there hasn't been another 777 crash, they may not.

While highly unlikely, could the flap have fallen off another 777 in flight? Until the part has been confirmed as coming from 370, I guess all they can say it is 'likely'.

So according to the French media the piece of wing has been flown to a military research centre near Toulouse specialising in material failure analysis. (DGA Techniques aéronautiques). Hopefully it won't be too long before they can confirm that it is from MH370.

Well if it's a flaperon AFAIK there's not much else it could be. The SA plane which crashed nearby was a 747-244M and of the 747s only the 800s have flaperons.
MH wings are painted grey. They're not bare silver metal.

Yes, what I heard on the radio this morning is that no other 777 has ever been lost over water, which means it is almost certainly from MH 370.

Yes, the other three hull losses of 777's have occurred over Ukraine (MH17) and at airports (BA@ LHR, Asiana @ SFO ).
