The days of using HF as the main comms are well and truly gone, I take it he has not flown for a while? Satcomms offer pretty much 100% coverage, and the very nature of HF is you will be able to get someone if need be, just not the station you were calling for. If you have a shortwave radio with SSB capabilities (ie a BFO) you can listen, 8867 is a common frequency.

About 10 years on the old birds.

It was said that MH dont pay for ACARS streaming, not that they dont have it. You can pay for different levels of service, a good example of the was QF32 but MH have already said they got no data. RR have a separate sub so they obviously pay for their subset data to be sent to them, the fact RR got data and MH didnt does not mean much. Of course the timeline of the data receipt would mean something.

Okay thanks for the clarification.

Seems MH have changed the flight numbers for MH370/371 as of 14th onwards? to MH318/319 according to their booking engine...

Except Turkish. TK1951 still designated IST-AMS

edit: It crashed badly...didn't disappear.

Air Canada 797 is another example.

It's just bad luck to keep the same flight number. pretty much the same as naming a ship the same as one that has sunk.

it's looking like an utter shambles at the moment on the part of the Malaysians. The conflicting information coming out of them on a daily basis would be almost comical if it wasn't for the fact that 239 people are most likely dead.

Look up ships named 'Waratah' for some reinforcement of this!

I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up by more media outlets. I would suggest the letter looks very authentic.

If I were the author, I'm not sure I'd be overly impressed that some twerp posted my name, country and passport number on the twits site! Have we discussed passport fraud on this thread before...I can't remember!

Exactly my thoughts when I saw that!

If I was the author, I'm not sure I would want to include my country and passport number on an email to what is effectively an strangers email account.

I know the Songa Mercur, worked on the sister rig Songa Venus and it is working in Vietnam. Don't know the guy but sounds like he may be a Radio Operator, Ballast Control Officer or maybe Barge Master going by his detailed position report. Not your usual rig pig.
