they would have no reason to shoot it down while it was on its planned track, sure once (if it did) changed direction it may be possible, but surely the Malaysian military would not shoot down a commercial aircraft for no reason. The reason why it stopped transmitting data would need to be known for this theory to be plausible.

I know, I know. However, did you ever imagine a Government could be this inept co-ordinating and explaining a rescue mission?

Granted when you don't have a clue, it is a very large area to be searching, so the result of appearing inept is likely. However, their approach at wanting to appear under control is the issue.

It's simply breathtaking and goes way beyond just trying to appear in control!

I'm sure there's an element of legacy politics in Malaysia, that combined with the general cultural attitudes towards not losing face...does not make for a good outcome.

Too many cooks in the kitchen, I'd say

They should have one single spokesperson with say twice daily press updates.

No one else should be allowed to speak on record.

It looks too amateurish from where I am sitting with shifting timelines, coordinates and flight directions.....

Poor countries like Phillipines, VN have been putting their meagre resources into the .... wrong search area.

Where is the leadership from the top ?

Hiding behind his cousin. From the article I linked earlier:

"China is calling on Malaysia to be more transparent as Prime Minister Najib Razak lets his cousin, Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, be the face of the investigation into why a Malaysian Airline System Bhd. (MAS)plane vanished on March 8"

Yep, that's been my feeling all along. You can't underestimate not wanting to lose face. While I understand that Malaysian authorities might not be able to talk about everything that they know/think they know right away, I'm sure that not wanting to lose face has prevented them from saying that they're really stuffed and asking for the help they need.

Air Canada 797 is another example.

It's just bad luck to keep the same flight number. pretty much the same as naming a ship the same as one that has sunk.

No such thing as bad luck. **** happens all the time and we just remember some odd bits-n-pieces more clearly than others because of coincidences and similarities.

That radar plot had the aircraft at 29500 feet - not sure how they worked that out unless it was primary and secondary radar.

Air force chief mentions "unidentified plot" on primary radar at FL295, 200nm NW of Penang, but states: "We're not saying it's #MH370."

out of respect for the passengers who died then, why revive a flight number when you could choose another? Air Canada doesn't have 9999 flights.

In other words, "we don't know what it was" = major flaw in Malaysian Military, or
"We know what it was" = major flaw in Malaysian search and rescue efforts.

No wonder they're in shambles.

This is what happens when you let clowns running the country... I grew up Malaysia and left 13 years ago, part of the 'brain drain'... There is so much corruption, nepotism and cronyism in the government. The only way to get to the top is if you know someone or you have money. It is really sad to watch it but I hope this will wake people up and bring forward change that is badly needed..

Forgive my ignorance, but my understanding was that the military had the capability to detect explosions mid-air and that they'd already ruled this out due to nothing showing up on their detection systems? If there was an "explosive loss of pressure" as the linked article indicates, wouldn't that have been detected?

Not unless there was a substantial fire/explosion/flash as part of the decompression...and the satellite was looking in the part of the sky the aircraft was in...

A Doomed Flight...A Missing Airplane...

Thats right, you're absolutely not kidding:

Bernama, a national news agency in Malaysia, reports that well-known Malaysian healer Ibrahim Mat Zin - known as Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP - has landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), to help find the plane using spiritual means and prayer.
