Not such a long bow and it does say a lot about the country.

Twenty-three percent of Malaysians are Chinese and not one of them is in the top rank of public servants?

A jobs for the boys type of club? Pardon the pun.

My experience with Malaysia is that nearly all govt positions, and I'd bet ALL military positions, are occupied by Malays. Outside of private enterprise the only place I've dealt with people of Chinese origin is academia and not many of them. I don't want to delve into race relations here but there appear to be lines drawn.
There is a reason(s) why many Malaysian Chinese no longer live, study and work in Malaysia:idea::idea::idea:

Let's just compare how Singapore is doing compared to Malaysia.... (I'm from Malaysia)

"Documentary" on Channel 7 right now... let's see how it goes.

Channel Seven airing a show right now called "The Mystery of Malaysia Flight 370". It reminds me of the Seinfeld series...a show in the words of it's creator Jerry Seinfeld "about nothing".

Not watching it Prozac, but I trust your description. How can you make a doco without facts??

It's actually not a bad job!!!

they are running through the options one by one... discounting them or putting them in the 'it's a possibility' pile.

nothing sensational... even answered simple things like why a ting tone might still be heard when dialling one of the pax phones (a ring tone can be given while a phone is on roaming for example and the network is searching).

it's bite sized, it's by and large logical. They have some mostly sensible commentators. They've dismissed the sensational allegations such as the two girls on the flight-deck for example.

Oh well, that's good to know. Nothing sensational for a doco such as this on commercial television is quite unusual. Good to know that someone in commercial tv land seems to have some integrity still.

I heard a radio interview this morning with Danika Weeks husband of Paul Weeks and was humbled both by her and the DJ's (not quite Kyle and Jackie O but not known for their subtlety either).
They mentioned something which struck a chord with me:
Whenever either of us are travelling alone (which is often) once onboard we always send a short text message to each other incl. " see u later" or similar.
I hadn't ever really thought much of it and why we might do it until hearing Danika speak today of exchanging GMail in the airport prior to departure. Her husband was getting a work mobile on arrival.

I'm not contributing anything to solving the mystery of the flight disappearance but I think this is a poignant reminder of the importance of communication with our loved ones.

During the above Ch 7 program, Danika Weeks told the reporter that her husband gave her his wedding ring and watch before he left....and said that if anything happened to him, she was to give the ring to his 1st son when he got married, and the watch to his 2nd son....almost like he had a premonition. I almost (not quite) shed a tear...

The Wall Street Journal broke the new developments after talking with two unofficial sources familiar with the American investigation - raising a whole new raft of questions about what happened to the jet which disappeared seemingly without trace from radar at around 1.30 am early on Saturday morning en-route to Beijing.

Government terrorism experts are now examining the possibility that the pilot or somebody else turned the plane's transponders off to avoid detection and flew it to another country.

A total flight time of five hours upon leaving Kuala Lumpur means that the Boeing 777 would have been able to remain airborne for an additional 2,200 nautical miles at its air-speed - which put the border of Pakistan and the Arabian Sea within its reach.

Or North West Australia!

Thinking of somewhere that might be corruptible and have weak radar and fits with the North West heading after crossing Malaysia into the Melacca Strait, Burma springs to mind. They also value gold very highly.

The doco on Gem re TWA800 is much more interesting.Still going.

Nice theory. But that is a long, long way to not get picked up on anyone's radar. Particularly as to do it you would have to fly low, and in flying low someone is going to notice such a big jet.
