I am "hosting" an event in Melbourne on the Friday night, so I will fly up on Saturday morning, and stay the one night (Saturday) at the Hilton. As such, I have locked-in a cheaper room rate at the Hilton, details to follow via email to mutinalP.

I have also just booked flights (Thanks for the freebie AmEx).

Nothing sinister about it serfty, just a good way for those on FB to confirm with munitalP that they are coming, so he can correlate that list against the list from this thread. I was one of the first to respond "Going".

It also widens the net for those people who are on AFF and FB, but haven't seen this thread, to remind them about the Do. As it's getting closer, those with short term travel pland may be able to confirm availability.

It's all about ensuring the net is cast far and wide and nobody can say they weren't aware of the Do, from all the marketing that munitalP has done.

Surprisingly at one of my offices Facebook & FlyerTalk are not blocked but AFF & MilePoint are blocked. I still haven't heard a coherant explanation as to why.

Thankfully my other office is largely open.

Yes, I was able to use my smartphone to decline the sinister offer¹ ... then use AFF to confirm my attendance.

¹ (I decline all Facebook tags, pokes, invites etc as a matter of course.)

I have had enough of Facebook.

I get the concept. And on its own it's a great idea.

But the rubbish that is posted leaves me wondering how or more importantly why a large number ( not all) of people feel they need to share the most mundane parts of their lives. .....in minute detail.

I find facebook quite useful (although don't share much about myself).

The trick is to use the in-built tools to aggregate the content and then skim read it. After all, do you read every thread on AFF, FT, MP, etc?... It's just about finding the good content and concentrating on that.


If something really important is happening (or happened) you will find out through another channel, so there is no need to be worried about 'missing out'.
