It is also going to be a farewell to alcohol for those who have signed up to Dry July :p

Oh, that explains your weird FB comment. I was getting worried for a moment!

That has been a running joke for a while. But it is now also on "doctors orders" for me.

Thankfully this do is in June, so I can be tempted to have just one or two drinks.

Go on! Here I was thinking all the radio jibberish about a "dry July" meant great snow and no rain!

Thanks heaps penegal........now I'm depressed and need to go and drink some alcohol............

(PS...you're on "doctors orders"......I'm on "ball and chain orders". Sucks whichever way you look at it!)

I'm not sure which is worse... although I will start listening to my doctor after June 30... at least until my liver starts working again :p

I shall be there close to the start time. Have to squeeze in a visit to the SoTP lounge beforehand. More concerned I will get there in style. My BKK-SYD flight s zeroed out in business. I'm on a full Y and Plat so there's always hope for my upgrade

The motivation for considering a charity was to kind of 'take the place of' KK (not permanently!), since there is no KK this time. I thought it would be more like (excuse the corny line), "Rather than be wrecked about what to give one another, why not give a gift to someone else." The idea with KK is that we all (well, almost all I guess, *majority* was the key) did it, and I thought this would be the same.

I realise that many people donate to charity with purpose, and it can be very personal. So asking people to donate to a cause which you may not support is asking for something normally personal to be done impersonally.

So down to business. There are two models I see of doing this, and I'm hoping that either one will result in the maximum participation in the idea without much aggravation or offence.

Option 1) Donations go to one charity, and out of respect to munitalP as chief organiser, the charity would be his choice, the RSPCA.

Option 2) We nominate, in addition to RSPCA, two other charities. There will be three containers (jars, boxes, whatever) where people can choose which charity they want to donate to. (Those of you who have been to Grill'd know they have a similar setup).

Which would people see as the better option?

Neither - your thoughts are nice and obviously considerate and I have good humour with your suggestion but what you are proposing is a form of enforced group think ... of which I shall not partake and with such will have no regret nor rancour.

I will donate to my preferred beneficiary(s) as it suits ... me and/or them ... this month or later this year, but not in relation to this function.

Is there a list of attendees somewhere? I've looked though the thread, but can't see it. I am curious who is coming...

<edit> well, that's done it! I wont be able to post any more to AFF - as penegal points out, this is my 747'th post and if I post again, it will spoil my numbers.... :( </edit>

Including our guest speaker, there are 44 attendees. I'll map my list to handles and post it later on....

We are doing a long cut to get there. PER- MEL - SYD due to that fine notion "why fly direct...."

You can always move to the 777th post or 787th?
Edit: Oh Tuapekastar beat me to that one.

Anyway I will be attending.

If anyone is after a hilton room for the night at $239, let me know before about midday tomorrow. Will cancel it then.
