NBN Discussion

As opposed to the other side, who always told the truth. Politician, lips moving. Doesn't matter what colour they are.

I have yet to see any significant levels of dishonesty out of most Greens pollies.

Ricky Muir seems like a pretty stand up guy as well.

People now questioning Turnbull over the NBN mess he left and oh stashing your Cash in the Cayman Islands doesn't look good.

Do you have super? If so, some of your money is there too.

The NBN he left was markedly improved on the shambles before it. Most people would have been lucky to see 25/5 in 2050.

A quality 25/5 service is perfectly adequate for most users, will support multiple simultaneous UHD streams, and video conference in FHD, plus future technologies.
.

Agree with that, although it will struggle with 8K streaming.

That said the problem with Internet in Australia -- more apparent with the widespread FTTP connections - is that the providers models for contention ratios are shot to pieces.
They are still running contention ratios from the days of most users on web-browsing/email which requires burst speeds - and you can get away with high ratios.

When you have half your subscribers online and streaming Netflix/Stan/Presto/Youtube etc... even a 100/40 fibre connection is going to suffer.

Does TPG have the equipment ready to take on the NBN regarding speed, reliability and price for businesses. We have zero interest in movie downloads and games...just business stuff.

Yes they do. They recently acquired AAPT who are big in the business data space, and are carving out their own market taking on Telstra and Optus.

If you need connectivity for a genuine business requirement, feel free to send me a PM. We are a business (only) dealer for Telstra, AAPT, TPG and Exetel. Advice is free, whether you connect through us or not.

Unfortunately their Fibre400 is only available in certain CBD buildings. Their FTTB solution for apartment blocks will eventually be acquired by NBN I'd imagine as NBN probably won't be bothered installing something that's already there.

Yeh but that was never going to happen given how far behind that rollout was.
HFC >>> FTTN so you're better than most

The pits in my street were remediated last year, then the morons in government stopped the FTTP rollout! My area was on the list for FTTP. Now I have to wait 3 years for HFC because presumably the HFC has to be upgraded and poles changed to handle the new thicker HFC cables.

Arguably yes.. Cable can already do >100mbps, copper needs short distances and g.fast protocols

For multi-storey apartment buildings, HFC is impractical, I guess...... So FTTB is realistically the only alternative?

Well Telstra/Optus avoided it previously mostly using Satellite instead connected to existing tv distribution system, but its probably easier to install new cable versus Fibre.

I suspect some small MDUs will ultimately get cable, other larger ones will get FTTB fed by a mix of cable and direct fibre

TPG have offered our five 12-storey apartment buildings FTTB next March. Three of the five OCs are opposing FTTB, saying it's better to wait till H1-2018 for NBN's rollout with HFC, rather than March 2016 because NBN HFC will be faster and more reliable than FTTB. I'm at a loss to understand how cabling every apartment with HFC is better, cheaper than FTTH. Will NBN even bother with HFC to these buildings?

12stories - would say very strong likelihood NBN offering will be FTTB as well...

Might get early access of someone contacts them but otherwise I'd be taking TPGs offer
